Thanks so much for this. I built the center axle copying the original plastic one with two pinion gears. works fine forward but in reverse it'll sometimes grab hard. Start over and do this properly.
You have sold me on upgrading the center axle on my MN77 and my WPL B36. I believe that this is the single most important issue to address on a 6x6. I really wish the manufacturers would do this upgrade from the factory even if they had to increase price as I'm sure the increase would be less than the mod costs.
sweet videos, i own a similar version of the b16 i thought i had but when ordering the 2speed upgrade i realized i got a different truck. So for the low price i ordered the b16 kit and love the soft tires, still assembling as the transmitter 3channel is almost here then its hitting the trails!! Your videos really got me into grabbing these trucks and if you guys ever run the CK trail again i know my trucks are ready to roll full scale and small scale! Happy building and wheeling to you.
sweet! yeah the kit tires are great. unfortunately my friend just sold his jeep. We are both getting newer rides for overlanding. He just got a Lexus Gx and going to mod that. I'm still debating over a 4runner or a lexus gx as well. we will see what happens hahaha.
@@RunThatRC get a chevy blazer and im your mechanic! theyre cheap now and parts dont cost an arm and a leg. Good luck vehicle hunting and see yall on a trail some day soon i hope!

I just received my B36KM kit, but it didn't come with the upgraded center axle. I got both the regular plastic axles and the metal axles but the installation method drawing isn't very good. Do you have a video on regular metal axle assembly?
Yes, The parts to build upgraded center axle were mixed in another bag, do you have parts assembly drawing for that kit. If so could you please post. I need to know the 4 screws in your kit used to fasten diff cover down.
You can go to WPL-RC.com and contact them. They may be able to help you get spare hardware. Some people use other grub screws that are longer to get a better lock on the gear. I personally still run on stock stuff with minimal issues.
They are plastic. But I like plastic over metal housings because they slide off rocks better. Metal likes to get stuck on rocks in my experience. But the metal will add weight down low so it's got its advantages.
I have wpl b36 with Full metal, motor 370 single speed, but when i play it, the middle axle gear always broke, i want to replace it with axle like in this video, can this axle solve the problem?
Very nice and helpfull video Thanks ! What about the last rear axle, do you have a link, where you buy metal upgrade to it ? Best Wishes from Denmark :-)
When you upgrade the center you can use the one you replaced for the last rear axle because the center axle has metal ring and pinion from the factory. And all you would have to do is get the front axle metal ring and pinion if it's a b16 but the b36 has metal already. Search WPL on banggoodDOTcom. That's is where I get most my wpl stuff.
@@magicyeti9256 I see. Unfortunately I have no experience with it. I have seen other channels use it and I heard it's not the best functioning but can be made to work ok I heard.
@@RunThatRC My trail rig is the King Kong RC CA-10 and I LOVE the fact that it's got an open diff. It's so much more fun and more challenging when you've got an open diff. And the turning circle is better. And it's less likely to break something. The CA-10 being RWD only also helps with the fun factor, for me anyway. You need to be careful where you put your wheels, where you put your throttle....thumb, in my case, as I drive it on an aircraft radio. Put a few pounds in the bed and that thing will power through some goopy-as-fuck mud(I even have footage of it doing so, both LOS and FPV, on my channel), and it's surprisingly hard to get the thing stuck. Loaded just so, you pretty much have to roll it, high center it, or try to climb an obstacle taller than about 40% the height of the 1.7 semi truck tires it uses(Same as on a Tamiya semi, but with a WW2 military style tread that bites in like nobody's business). With solid spools in the axles, RC trail/crawl rigs are too capable for their own good, and the scale aspect goes right out the window once you throw terrain at them that poses a challenge. My CA-10 is about halfway between a true crawler and a Tamiya Cascadia, and as such, it's quite capable cross country while not needing a super crazy special built course. You can have a blast off-roading one of those things through a park, down a forest hiking trail, through ruts left by 1:1 cars, things that are boring in a solid-axle spool-equipped crawler as it powers through as if it was on flat tarmac. I know there's better rigs out there, but if I wanted a dedicated crawler, I'd probably pick up a TRX4 simply because it has open diffs. Probably the only Traxxas product I'd honestly admit to wanting to spend my own dollars on. And if Kev Talbot is anything to go by, those things are surprisingly tough. He's pushed 6s through a castle system in his, run it up to 40+ MPH(They're hilariously unstable at those speeds and just roll over/crash its funny AF), aired it out over a garden shed, and it just came back for more.
@@TestECull I agree there is a fun factor to it being more tricky to navigate obstacles. I have one thats just RWD and its fun and goes surprisingly well on obstacles. You can install the jjrc axles and those have diffs in them and they cheap too. But for my kind of Driving style I need them locked. I have a twin hammers that I turned crawler. Had front dif and was limited in ability to crawl and had to bump it everywhere. Now it's locked and going where trx4s go! I wanted a trx4 for a bit but I figured I have alot of other rcs for different purposes so i really don't need a jack of all trades rc.
Excellent step by step instructions. Good shots of gears and direction...I ordered that kit 4 weeks ago and your video will help a great deal. Thanks.

Great helpful video! Off to watch part 2.

Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it!
One more thing i noticed, pre thread the screws into the plastic gear housing before you do anything.
I like to use grease on the screws to help get them on.
I appreciate the time you took it made this a lot easier to assemble. Do you know if WPL is going to have metal pieces for the gear case?
glad it helps! I dont think wpl has any official metal casings. Aftermarket maybe but I have no experience with them.
No more torque twist!!
Now u will crawl bether.

I just used the screw thats long enough to secure the assembly.
9:30 is this a real bearing or just a bushing?
They are ball bearings.
@@RunThatRC Thanks, they`re really small
They definitely are tiny bearings.
Those two brass pinion gears are delicate and the grub screws can strip easily. Where would one source a replacement?

yes this pass through axle helps keep the load from ruining the center axle gears.

I just got n install this midde axle, but somehow the left wheel wont stay ommn ground and it made the rear wheel bind. Any solutions for this? Thanks
I dont get what your trying to explain unfortunately. I have had no issues with mine so not sure whats going on with yours.
It is not possible to buy this updated center axle from banggood or aliexpress anymore?
I purchased mine from ebay. Not sure if other sites stopped carrying it or not.
Does the spring perch "Lift w/ new leaf" produce too much angle and No flex?
Not sure what your asking? Are you talking about the leaf spring upgrade?
@@RunThatRC yes. The perches sold are supposedly higher. Was curious if articulation/roll-over and bump-steer were an issue...

B36 12 wheel project flatbed wrecker, articulating deck w/winch would be good footage for Scalerz too.

Hi, are the axle shells metal?
The axles are plastic but you can use this upgrade with the wpl metal axles that are the same design as these.
Were u git from?
I purchased it from Ebay. Just search wpl and you will find center axle upgrade.

No prob brother!
Anyone who has this: Did you notice the driveshaft between the back tandem wheels is kinda too long?
I have heard that but mine all installed pretty easily and runs without binding or issues.
I just wish they had gear diffs in them.
Would be good if your trying to make a fast truck build. But the solid straight axle works for crawling pretty well.
