@DamienPercy they are NOT a modified version of the Maori Haka... Our traditional war cry is NOT the same as the Haka. We have danced like that for generations, and how would our ancestors (The early Aboriginals) know that Maori's/Kiwi's/New Zealanders anyway? There's my point, the Traditional Aboriginal War Cry is NOT a modified version of the Maori Haka
id be keen to see an idigenous vs Aotearoa maori game it be an awesome game. it be interesting to see if jonathon thurston would have a run with the maori team thurston and marshall be a mean combo taking on sandow and prince
Craig B but the thing is, kurtly beal is the only Indigenous player in the wallabies (I think) the rest are just Aussie and Pacific Islanders. It would be weird for the, to do this
I have researched as much as I can but can someone please help me with one simple question.......... Is the Australian Aboriginal War cry dance actually a long standing tradition and culture based OR,,,,,,,,,is it a new thing that was made up by a bunch of footballers to combat the Maori HAKA? It just looks like a modified HAKA to me and I cant find any reference to ACTUAL use or tradition until after 2007
Yes of course there were war cries from Indigenous Australians and they are different to Maori. Just like all cultures there were performances to declare war. There are different ways of announcing but similar in the way the performers stomp their feet stamping their tumba tjina (foot print - this is in Barungamm) in the ground to awaken country. There are different songs and variations because of the fact there are over 250 language groups in Australia, but similar in the way it declares a war or clash.
