Those early monks must have had incredible conviction to do what they did. . . so full of mystery. We today cannot imagine what they endured. Not to mention what they did for literacy alone but noticing the stonework, that infamous masonry that Scottish explorers and settlers have left us, appears to have gone much further back-that's a whole other history. Where did that deep belief come from especially in so harsh an environment? Touching and very deep, just to be able to be there where his mother is buried. The location obviously very well selected which suggests strong attachment and meaning.
