My favourite episode yet. Brilliant to see Daniel so self aware and reflective. Hopefully we see him back on the pitch, with the chance to express himself fully
Loved it. I would love to see Cips grace the field again. A very honest chat. What a talent. I'm sure he will be successful in whatever he wants to do in life. My cup of tea. Sign him up Ronan.
@@c.m4065 Probably both, at his best. Or perhaps as a bench option to change the tempo of the game. I just think he was often excluded for what he couldn't do rather than picked for what he could do, rather like Carlos Spencer or Quade Cooper.
Was not at the standard of faz and Ford and say it the way it is he wasn’t reliable off the pitch wasn’t mature enough to be a leader in that environment
In my opinion Cipriani and a few others had plenty to offer England and were victims of Eddie Jones arrogance and hubris. A stronger RFU would’ve been asking questions re selection years ago. Jones was able to treat English rugby like his own fiefdom and look how it turned out.
His ego was too much and was too immature for way too long for people to take him seriously. All the older lads couldn’t deal with him because of the footballer attitude hence josh Lewsey served him a couple of times. There’s more to it than turning up here and there with some fancy footwork and passes
Agree - talented but unable to tow the line which sometimes you have to do. Very footballer-ish air and behaviour, which in itself is no issue, but I doubt he would say to Owen Darrell’s face there’s ‘no leaders’ under Eddie Jones’ teams. There was a spine of leaders in 2016 - Robshaw, Haskell, Farrell, Mike Brown, spearheaded by Hartley .. leadership running down the literal spinal structure of the side. Cipriani just can’t see the bigger picture or wood for the trees beyond his individual performance. That’s why, often, he’s not been picked at both club and England level. Talented, absolutely. Able to function in a team with lots of opinions, options and pressure at the highest level - not quite, and that’s just his default makeup. But he’s given some absolute memorable moments regardless.
For me Cips along with Wilkinson is the most gifted player the english game has produced. His debut V Ireland is one of the most dominant displays i've ever seen from a player on debut. I just wish we got the chance to see him at a worldcup. Good to see him in a good place.
Talking from the comfy seat of an armchair and previously had a few turnstile tackles on the pitch - but Cips talking about tackling is a tad hilarious.
@@patrickchilds2987 maybe you missed the joke on purpose, but the joke was a knowingly bad defender was talking about the tackling rules .. not that he and like some other FHs are bad at tackling, which is becoming less and less true.
@@hammerhiem75 😂! To be fair Wilkinson was talented but it was his commitment that drove him to that next level, but cips talent was at that level but he did not maximize with that work ethic (at least when viewing on the sideline)
Proper class episode. What a journey DC has been on. Interesting how positively he reflects on his last season at Bath. Can’t wait to see what he does next. In other news… who’s nose was that whistling away the entire ep?? 😂😂
Cips is what MLR needs. A real star, can play his game without the athleticism of his early 20s, absolutely amazing skills with the ball and huge experience of playing in new clubs. I would watch an MLR game with cips at 10.
@@joeyfischler1031 Yeah. He would be huge. I worked for the LA Giltinis last year. Basically volunteering. A lot of these overseas guys do a lot of coaching too. They find the young players over here eager to learn. What’s your MLR team?

Yeah having never listened to him talk, I always kinda thought he was probably just a dumb, cocky guy with too much ego. I have to say I judged him entirely wrong based on this interview. He's obviously smart and very articulate and seems pretty empathetic. I blame the media for my harsh perception of him 😅
Liskeard Looe RFC in Cornwall need a stand-off. Plus a new coach, trainer, groundsman, and tea lady. I guess that Cips could combine all the jobs into one. £5 a year plus a Trabent: no brainer, innit?

Someone from Roehampton Estate being the most exciting Rugby player in England is the equivalent to a kid from Eaton Sq being the best football player.
Love the fact that the prop is the one most prepared, legend. Also world rugby are forcing these changes because they are being sued by retired players due to brain damage from the game. Players are forcing this change, but as always the coaches and players will adjust, it might also create more running rugby as a side effect
You know nothing about it. You can get a concussion from contact with the ground too, and that's just the jolt of hitting the ground not even your head hitting the ground. No way to totally eliminate it from the game, why not accept it, there is ultimately the risk but its not as huge as the media make it out to be. If the really want to tackle concussion in the pro game then really they need to limit games.
@@billbobby461 hahaha come out firing. Played rugby for years, got concussed a few times…agreed it’s a dangerous game with risk, but because they are being sued they have to at least show they are doing something for player safety or else they’ll be sued over and over again. The actual research and not opinions shows that you are at a HIGHER risk of concussion in head to head clashes. Obviously these changes won’t omit all concussions but it reduces the over all % which is the goal. People hate change but won’t progress.
@Travis McGarry you know that for real? From what I've read on it they know next to nothing about actual concussion rates because most are unknown or reported. Its easy to see in a head to head clash much harder in instances of falling on the ground. So are concussion rates reduced significantly or are seen and reported concussions affected? Plus there is the fact nothing exists until you see it, I.e is the fact they are looking for concussion increasing reporting of it in the first place, are those other unseen unreported concussions coming from other areas actually reduced or are they increased. Example guy gets lighted up from a hip to the head in a perfectly fine looking tackle, manages to stay on his feet and carry on, no-one is even looking for that as a concussion event so it goes unseen and unreported. Changing the laws could increase those incidents significantly.
@@billbobby461 yeah man, listen to science of sports podcast, they go into depth on the research. Even have mouth guards measuring the forces during the game of which collisions cause the most force. Super interesting.
@Travis McGarry but they don't know what force actually causes concussion so that's impossible to quantify definitively, also effect of the direction of the force, and the difference of that between different players. Imo the easy thing to do is to shorten the season not change the game. Unfortunately I think that means separating international and club sports. Players are drafted for international at the start of a 15-18week season and can't go down to club on club players can come up. It's the only way I see the game being viable.

The new tackle law will destroy the game. It will not work at the highest level. How do you tackle a player with the ball around waist who drops his head and shoulders into you? How do you clean out with force? How do you stop the ball close to the try line?
