I don’t understand why people get upset about the Cube having a 100M Ethernet port. That is plenty enough for 4K bandwidth. Even if it had a 1G port, it wouldn’t use that bandwidth.
I have a family with four TVs in the house... Living Room TV and three occupied bedrooms. All four TVs are FireTV devices, the Living Room and Master Bedroom are both FireTV Cubes, and the two kids bedrooms are FireTVs (the TVs with FireTV built-in). My two FireCubes were both 2nd Gen, but I upgraded the Living Room TV to 3rd Gen to see if its also worth doing the master bedroom cube (no, it's not worth it). I have no regrets, i'm happy to have a 3rd Gen Cube as the main LR TV setup, but I'll just stick with my 2nd Gen Cube in the Bedroom (and obviously the kids will keep their FireTVs as-is).
I own one of these. The internal upscaler works for any signal you plug into its HDMI port (including consoles and PCs). However, it adds a noticeable amount of lag that makes some games borderline unplayable.
Also some cable companies may block its signal for digital amplifiers or splitters (so you can’t make piracy or have 2 or more TVs with the same decoder box)… So for my use case the tv cube is the same as if I buy a 4k max or else…
I just picked up one of the 4K insignia Fire TVs and its noticeable the hardware improvements and response of the amazon UI. great as a bedroom tv and no external fire tv device required.
pro tip: you can hold down the Home/House button on the new remote and it gives you a quick input popup menu to jump between amazon apps and HDMI input.
With rare exception I exclusively use my Fire TV Cube as a PLEX client. Seldom do I watch any Amazon content or anything else with it. To that end, I find the Cube much more responsive then the Stick's are, and just overall a more enjoyable experience.
When you say Plex client, are you talking about the movies you have saved on a hard drive or laptop? I use to use video stream when i had my google chromecast but since I purchased a firestick, i use plex to stream my personal movies. Can i just connect thru usb on the cube?
Do you know this can be hooked up to a soundbar and still have the hands free ability? My husband is disabled and uses a fire tv cube currently and navigates it by voice as he has no hand function but we are wanting to add a soundbar that still works with the hands free Alexa
I’m such a smart home geek I literally use the Tv Cubes for the purpose of controlling my tv on and of from different rooms and controlling my tv inputs by voice. Apple TV still owns my streaming experience.
compared to my 2nd gen Fire TV cube, this is lightyears faster at navigation, and overall UI responsiveness. It's on par with the Apple TV 4K (latest) in terms of getting a voice command to actual execution. I dont know if there is something wrong with my 2nd gen cube or not, but the difference is significant in performance.
Nice video, but I am assuming that you are not spending a lot of time streaming over apps with these devices. Because if you did, you would know definitely how important it is to have that little extra better and faster processing speed as well as connectivity over WiFi 6. Not to mention that, the third gen. provides even more with the included USB port, for more device usabilities and HDMI input for those who have TV box and .....
My 4k Firestick MAX is perfect for me. I use a light Kodi build that's linked with Real Debrid. The way I set it up the app always stays open so when I want to watch movies I switch inputs and it's ready for me to search anything. With very little load times.

I purchased the Cube on sale $79.99 a couple Black Fridays back 2020, TBH unless you are totally sold on having Alexa control everything then get the Cube, if not the Firestick is a much better option,
Do I still need an echo dot if I have an fire tv cube 3rd gen? Or I can sell the echo dot because I only need 1 speaker that can control everything. Thanks *planning to buy a fire cube 3rd
For folks who NEED voice control of the TV (sight impaired folks, or others who have trouble pressing buttons, etc), it sounds like the CUBE is needed, if for nothing else to be able to turn the TV on without having to press any buttons (100% voice control), correct? Thanks... (Also, can Apple TV be used for 100% voice control?)
I upgraded from the 4K Max to this new Cube. It loads slightly faster, the picture is slightly better. I have no use for Alexa as I have two echo dots for this. So this nullifies the Cube for this function. I don't have Sky or Virgin boxes (UK cable) so don't need a HDMI attached from those to the Cube. I am definitely not connecting a console to it. So there is actually no point of the Cube for those on the 4K Max which I am going back to.
Question about hearing aid support- when connected can others hear also or just the hearing aid person? I ask because when my Mom connects her hearing aids to the stick - we hear nothing in the room- it is like pairing a headset. Thus means if others are watching she must unpair her aids-
I am not sure and have not found details. My guess is that it is the same way. In reading the amazon announcement they say private listening. Here is link to the Amazon blog on it. amazonfiretv.blog/fire-tv-launches-hearing-aid-pairing-423d56625683
Pairing a stick with echo wont create the same result. We are skipping the seuper fast processor in this one which will make navigation super fast and keep it super fast for a long time. This will also help with better upscaling.
For me personally, usb 2.0, fat32 and 100mbit ethernet in 2022 are deal breakers. The Nvidia shield pro is still the best all round streaming box and the price difference is negligible.
The ethernet port is useless since it's 10/100....so it can only do about 90 mbps Some might say 90mbps for just streaming is enough but it's really not... If you want a comfortable best experience anyways... Can you stream 4k with 90mpbs?? yes..... Will you buffer and will the apps you are using sometimes turn down the quality of your streams because it think your connection is too slow?? absolutely ... Can you seamless scroll though content no buffering at 90mbps?? no......
Have the new fire cube and fire stick been a Amazon fire user on all my tv's after moving on from Roku... took two weeks and got the New Apple Box and couldn't be happier, better picture, more responsive and it doesn't need constant restart. Also the fire cube sound goes out, needs restart, video buffer for ever and i have the 6k wireless and gb lan and neither stop the buffering, it freezes also so again needs a restart or power cycle. Two weeks of it and i moved to the New Apple. Heck the last gen Fire cube had 3x faster network and maybe not as snappy but also didn't need all the restarts. Use it for a week or two and you'll see the same, this thing is horrible.
I want an echo dot thin device that has ir/rf blaster and can be wall. Mounted, so alexa can control my projector and stereo home theatre... I wish apple tv was also controllable by alexa.
IMO this device is too expensive you might as well look at an Nvidia Shield or Apple TV. I'm going to hold off until Amazon runs a random sale where they slash 50 plus off the price. I'm currently running gen 2 cubes and they are still doing the job.
Question does the dolby mat make it only play atmos as linear pcm. If so is it any good? I had 2nd gen firecube and atmos ran as dolby digital plus. Thanks for any answers you can give me.
I have a gen 2 fire stick hook up to my 2003 Philips 20" crt and was thinking about upgrading to the cube. So can i just get a hdmi and hook it to my tv?
I just upgraded my Cube yesterday. I have a PS4 plugged into it. I got the new Cube specifically because I was having so much trouble having the old one control the PlayStation through the TV. I haven't played a lot with it yet, so I don't know if the games I play are going to have a framerate problem. I'll have to look for that and figure out another way to plug it in if it's a problem.
I'm not thinking of upgrading anytime soon but I've soured a lot on the FireTV compared to Roku (still have and use both in different rooms). FireTV just seems to mess up more often than Roku does. This review was still very helpful to help inform me on the features and the possibilities for when I do eventually upgrade.
My hdmi input does not work with Panasonic ub820. Tried this with two different 3rd gen cubes and still go the same black screen and it refuses to show up. The bluray player works perfectly otherwise.
I still have the 1st gen Fire TV, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade. I don't have any issues with it, so I'm leaning toward not. I also compared the specs, and frankly the 1st gen box and the current gen sticks don't really seem all that different in terms of processor, memory, etc.
I have the 1st gen Fire Tv and I’m starting to have problems with it. I’m unable to download certain apps like Peacock and I’m starting to get messages that I’m running out of space. I really enjoy it but I think it’s time for me to let it go. 😢
I do not have the 2nd gen. I am using the remote that it comes with. For $35 more you can buy the remote you are talking about. That is the pro. amzn.to/3DWuDzy
My current setup is a Firestick 4K with a home theatre consisting of two echo speakers and an echo sub. My question is, if I may. If I upgrade to the new Fire Cube, which has an HDMI in, will the home theatre side still work if I run my satellite system through the Fire Cube? In other words, will sound from the satellite system come out of the two echo speakers and an echo sub? Thanks from the UK
You download the apps for streaming services you want to use and you can usually sign up through the app. Most have trial periods to see if you like it before canceling cable.
Can you please do a video to compare test audio voice and music on cube 3 vs cube 2 vs echo dot3 vs dot2... Because cube2 has speaker low quality like in echo dot2. I hope audio on cube3 is same quality improvment as in echo dot3 vs dot2.
Yeah that is a great feature and I am surprised they don’t advertise it more. If they advertised their smart home features, I think more people would use them.
I like the Cat 5 connector option. I did get the adapter for my Max but have noticed the connected Studio speakers don’t work. They have to be on the same network, ie. Wifi. Even if the cable is on the same network as the speakers are on (WiFi) , doesn’t work.. :( I could use the extra speed bonus!
That is interesting about the network and the speakers. They are still on the same network, it should work. Apparently that wouldn’t be the case with the cube since it is built in. Thanks for sharing that Larry.
Thank you very much. That is so nice of you to say. I am glad that the fire TV cube got you watching. Thank you for such a nice comment. As I get older you hear that less and less 😀👍
Question for all. I have 10-15M max for my internet. I use a Home base unit from AT&T I turned off the WIFI and added a Rock Space AC 1200 Mesh unit and use that as Router and nodes. Node 2 sits by the TV. so.. If I get Gen 2 or 3 and use the lan port to plug into will that help in quality? That is why I am asking about the Gen 2 or 3 if it would help. or.. just stick with my 4K stick (not Max).. The real Q is it worth upgrading to cube because of the ability to connect via ethernet vs WIFI. with the Rock space sitting behind TV and or stay with 4K or jump to Max. hmmm
Hello Rich, I am not able to try this to see if it is available. But I would see if there is a speed test app for Fire TV. One I like that I use on Apple TV that may be available is Ookla Speedtest . You can go to speedtest.net in a browser. See if you are getting 10-15mb over WiFi. With you mesh system you should be fine. In my house the difference in WiFi vs hardwired is 50mbps vs 200mbps. If you are seeing 10 or 15 over WiFi, I wouldn’t upgrade for the Ethernet. Being hardwired is going to get you the most speed and help with buffering. If you are not seeing blurriness from buffering, you probably are getting enough speed over WiFi. Most services I have seen recommend 10mbps for streaming and another additional 5mbps for additional devices streaming at the same time. I would hate to recommend this and it doesn’t give you any real difference.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks, any real other reason to go to Max or cube vs my 4K for better stability of not a real difference in my situation. Since adding Mesh I still get some circle on live tv but much more tolerable. I know there are some features, etc I am looking more for stability. do have eco
Hi Craig, to optimize viewing and listening experience, what is the ideal connection setup using the Fire TV Cube as input source, an ultra short projector for video and the Samsung HW-Q990 soundbar for audio? Also, can the Fire TV cube play my song playlist in my memory stick plugged into the USB port? Thanks in advance 😊
In order to get the best picture I would run HDMI from the Fire TV cube to the TV. Then plug an HDMI into the Arc or E-Arc port on the TV. Make it is turned on in settings. Then the Fire TV sound would come out of the that HDMI into the sound bar. There is no audio out on the cube. So you have to either run the video and audio through the sound bar or your tv to the sound bar. Hope that helps. As for the USB port. There might be 3rd party apps you can side load for that.
I would not. You can pair an echo with your fire tv and use voice for some commands. The Fire TV Sticks don't have handsfree Alexa, but it is on the remote. It is limited to media related stuff. The cube is more like an Echo.
Seems like a decent update but for me I still think the AppleTV is a better option and more powerful with a much better interface. Even better since the remote update and the new version released this year which gives a bit more to future proof yourself - still also have some older 4K Apple TV with the older black touch remote and they still work great as also take many updates for newer versions too. The new pricing for the AppleTV makes it hard to buy the Amazon Cube when you also get much better privacy options too.
If yuu have a iphone phone and you like IOS system, of course 👍. But for android user is not. Iphone box is locked system, you can,'t sidolaod app, put VPN, IPtV you want, etc...
@@zarkodamjanovic9924 I have also used several android boxes and usually those can be side-loaded as you mention but you can use a vpn & iptv on an AppleTV. Also find that usually Android boxes have an expiry on them due to never updating the OS and then becoming too slow and outdated quicker - think a raspberry pi can be a better option in some cases but for speed and ease of use with a ton of apps (including vpn & iptv apps) AppleTV has an edge, esp silly now at a lower price. Find a FireTV Stick is a better option to side load apps since Amazon updates it so it seems to retain its usage for longer.
Some people will experience dobly atmos glitches with some sound systems on apple tv and apple tv amamzon picture quality is suppressed and no dobly vision on peacock . Premature review when he has not spent enough time testing both .
Appletv lacks some premium audio codecs. The tv cube 2022 support uncompressed truhd atmos, dts:x and dts-hd. That's a huge gap and no device except the shield pro and cube 2022 do this
Amazon 🔥 Cube 2nd and 3rd all of the so fast and softwares Jailbreak allows access to planet Earth Continents 🎬sports platforms. Whereas to Jailbreak Apple 4K TV you have to access the hardware altering it forever, on the Cube it's ridiculously easy safe without having to access the hardware. I have the latest Apple Dongle TV devices, and I don't miss them I tend to forget that they exist.
I bought the new Fire TV Omni QLED 65 inch. First time ever using fire tv. It’s pretty much garbage. I’m coming from Apple TV and it’s far and away better. I ordered a new tv same day and sending this one back. Not into it! 😮
Don't buy it, it has issues and it doesn't seem like Amazon cares to fix it, because it has been this way for a while.. and the fire stick has the same issue.

you didn't cover AV1 decoding support on the cube, where as the new apple tv doesn't support it. kind of a big deal
So you could put it between a AVR and the tv. Run all your video sources into the receiver then through this. Easy pull up cameras and such.

@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks Craig, will definitely follow your advice 👍
Thank you Craig.
Thank you Ron. Have a great day.
great review!!!!!
Thank you Curtis.
halow, can you test Firecube 3 with WD MyBook 14TB? I doubt it cant read. Thanx
I tested with 6TB, NTFS formatted MyDrive, and no issues watching videos directly.
Thank you for the update Rhea 98 and my apologies for not seeing your comment sooner Cyber Punk. Thank you both for watching.
Can you firebreak it
Got mine for $ 59.00 Black Friday
Should I buy the Fire Cube if I already have Alexa?
I would not. You can pair an echo with your fire tv and use voice for some commands. The Fire TV Sticks don't have handsfree Alexa, but it is on the remote. It is limited to media related stuff. The cube is more like an Echo.
I don't see any reason to buy this over the new Apple TV, the specs on this new cube are just so bad for a new device in 2022.
The fire tv cube is priced to close to the new apple tv 4K and has me leaning toward an apple box
@@jodsterjamster8678 and I forgat, apple tv in Europe is much expensive then firestick cube.
That's a huge gap and no device except the shield pro and cube 2022 do this
Definitely a better idea to stick with Shield Pro or Roku Ultra, no reason to use a Fire/Apple device
I have sent my cube back, as the video sound is out of sink.
How does it make sense at all vs Apple TV
I feel the same way. The differences aren’t features that do much for me.
If this had a Antenna TV tuner then I would give it a look. A combo fire stick I don't use mad Alexa I don't use . Umm bye
Cube has more storage then the stick but wish Amazon more storage.
Yeah they are a little tight with the storage
I have all of them!!!
Very cool. Now you have a new one to add. 😀 Thank you Curtis for checking out the video.
2017 shield
I bought the new Fire TV Omni QLED 65 inch. First time ever using fire tv. It’s pretty much garbage. I’m coming from Apple TV and it’s far and away better. I ordered a new tv same day and sending this one back. Not into it! 😮
Don't buy it, it has issues and it doesn't seem like Amazon cares to fix it, because it has been this way for a while.. and the fire stick has the same issue.
It's hard to get behind the Cube.
My firetv is WICKED slow.
My Samsung TV does everything I want it to, so no need for a streaming device.
ok
At this price point, just get a nvidia shield
Roku Ultra half the price, no thanks.
I have used the Gen 2 Cube for several years with NO issues. I would never buy an apple device. apple hater.
Glad to hear the cube has worked well. I can respect you hating apple. You are a respectful about it. Thanks for watching.
Prime deals, cheap 😁
Switched to apple tv. They hardly changed anything with the new cube
Nice. Apple TV is the way to go in my opinion. The changes are useful for me personally.
@@CraigsTechTalk absolutely. The picture is better and the os is so smooth
Do you like talking to things?
Not really. I prefer to automate and say as little as possible. Thanks for watching.
@@CraigsTechTalk Just joking. Your video for some reason reminded me of the Busey Fire ad. ruclips.net/video/ZbIOlQ0yna0/видео.html
