This is the type of competition we NEEDED in the webcam industry. Excellent review my guy. Gonna have to save up a bit for this. A webcam that tracks, opens cool possibilities for streamers.
One of the biggest issues that I will stay away from the Insta360 (and no one on RUclips has ever mentioned) is the privacy concern: the camera pings Chinese Domain 1K Per Day. Also their software has shady privacy agreement that I don't think we should take the risk. This is confirmed by our IT with the same finding from one of their Amazon reviews: "my corporate IT security team which made me immediately cease and desist the use of the Instalink360 webcam because the software sends information to a Chinese owned Domain Name Service (DNS). My network security team flagged the device because it was flooding my companies firewall logs with over 1,000 DNS calls with in a 24 hour period."
Amazing review! Really love the way you not only showcase the Link, but also take the time to go through the Link Controller! Keep it up the awesome reviews 🙌
@@Phynix72 why would they want to do that when the product is literally a "web cam". If you want to have that functionality, there's a DJI Osmo Pocket for you.
@@xRedz11029 been down that route and it sucks. It can be finnicky if it's an older model and the physical connections themselves are also finnicky. They're big and bulky so you need space, and if it's a permanent set up then you'll always have giant cameras floating around. The sony A6000 series are really popular and do a good job but will easily pass the $300 price tag of this after you factor in lens/es, dummy battery and gear to hold it up. On top of that, you dont get the scenes feature which is crazy good to have on a webcam. Achieving that with a DSLR or mirrorless camera will cost thousands and you probably can't get on screen direct control with the virtual joystick. $300 is nothing.
For 300 dollars, I wouldn’t expect anything less. Would have been nice to see the same camera quality in a stationary position like a normal web cam for half the price
Literally was just thinking about why some company couldnt put a bigger sensor with a gimbal into a webcam, cause it'd be literally perfect for content creators......and here we go. Great job Insta360👌
I want this for features alone, the image quality is just a very nice bonus. :) Tbh a 1080p version of this at around $210 would be perfect for online meetings.
Very good product. Wish it was $200 but I think it's worth the $300 definitely. Some of the auto lighting and exposure does seem a little wonky at times but your lights aren't set up for it. Camera controls are awesome Gestures seem a little bit like overkill
Hopefully they have (or add) support for stream deck controls. I love the tracking but don't want to gesture around at my audience to turn it on and off.
@@artemis4575 A new T7 lowest retail looks around $479.99 and then the lens I would need is $125. So $600 new and I would not even get 4k as an option. @@greggeroni2180 ok but what would you need 4k in a webcam for, very small amount of people have a 4k monitor anyway, and i got mine for 300 bucks on a sale, granted i was lucky but, just the webcam is not for me but if you like the amazing set of features i really dont blame you.
Now this is a solid webcam. Too pricey for my own needs (Teams meetings lol), but gives me hope we will start seeing video quality like this from more webcams instead of the softer, blown out image quality most webcams seem to have
Looks like an Obsbot in a smaller package. Software seems more robust on this one as is image quality, even though some of settings like FPS are missing.
The HDR being a bit flat is probably because you're turning HDR content on while Windows HDR is off. You will see that in games that support HDR, the color will turn very dull, flat, and sometimes opaqued with some tint, because the monitor doesn't support HDR or Windows HDR settings is disabled.
This is the most amazing webcam I've seen, and I might order one someday. That said, yesterday I ordered a Logitech BRIO 4k webcam from Amazon for $137.50. Even at double the price I almost want to cancel that order and get this amazing camera.
Take my advice: Cancel the Brio (whether you get the Insta or not). Mine has horrible, constant flickering, regardless of any of the “fixes” people suggest (new cable, different USB ports, firmware, etc). They’re complete garbage.
I think the thing that's crazy is that webcams had made virtually no progress for a few years before the pandemic hit and millions of people started working remotely. Phone cameras have been amazing for quite a while and it's a shame that it took this long to react to that demand. By now everyone is used to looking like crap in Teams meetings and it would be weird to be the one guy who looks like a streamer. But seeing this thing I might have to go for it, buy an SM7B and a huge arm and put up acoustic treatments and RGB lighting everywhere to talk to my family on Zoom.
This is not really a streamer's webcam, this is a business webcam. An amazing use case that one of my engineer friends showed me with this webcam is in remote product demos. They bought one to test it out as an alternative to bulky multi-cam setups when they work off-site and it's perfect for that.
This is insane actually, there is barely a market inbetween webcams and DSLR setups and this insta360 nailed it. The quality is more than acceptable for content creation but what has me impressed is how well the image is balanced on auto, something like a logitech 4k brio isnt nearly as well balanced as this out of the box, even with tweaking I dont think it would produce the same image. I would have liked to see the insta360s performance under low light conditions though. great review
This is incredibly practical! Whether it's a small studio or a large company with this 360 Link camera it's almost like meeting face to face! But at this price I still think I could have picked another one, like: aicoco or obsbot

I was really disappointed in my PW513 Avermedia cam and the Instalink just blows that one out of the water hands down - not even in the same arena! Awesome webcam (and great video on it too btw).
This is definitely a content creator webcam. If there was a version without the gestures and 1080p 60fps only for like $150 I'd jump on it instantly. I really don't need 4k and all the fancy stuff for just vibing in discord with friends.
I don't think this looks bad on the Elevator considering it's half the price and actually out. I think it's a bit unfair to bash a camera that can out last year and costs half the price. It still looks better than every other webcam at it's price point.
Anybody who hasn't used any Insta360 products needs to realise that they are very good at updates and support. They also listen to consumers so this product will improve over time. Not cheap, but with a much better support and team behind it. Any issues get sorted and they are much better at product support than others
What are the odds. Spent hours yesterday watching webcam and dslr videos on youtube for upgrading my video conferencing setup. Was about to blow near a grand on the sony zv e10, but looks like I'll be going with this instead. Thanks dude!

Comparing it to a Webcam almost half the price isn't exactly apples to apples. The FOV is a huge plus for the Elgato. I agree the insta looks great but you were actually smoother at 1080p/60. You can see the motion lag multiple times. When you tested Nvidia, you probably would have reduced that lag a lot going down to 1080p. I dont have a good webcam yet, good video. How is the insta in low light?
Its a great camera. I have that and the Lumina cam. The only thing that its missing is the wide lens FOV that the Lumina cam has. If it has a wide angle lens, it would basically be perfect.
It's actually really interesting. The only issue is, that webcams have come so blown up in price that this is outrageous. Considering a decent Webcam should cost 50€ (instead of 100€), a great one should be like 100€(instead of 150€) and this should be around 180-200€(instead of 300€). We are genuinely approaching actual used camera prices with a relatively okayish lens. For the 300€ u can basically get a 5100, with lens and a HDMI to USB converter. The streaming equipment market is just so broken because everyone thinks he needs 5000€ worth of equipment for his 2 viewers. I just don't get why everyone thinks he has to be streaming thus artificially allowing the manufacturers to let prices skyrocket ... :( Heck... Even the dji osmo pocket 2 with more, better features is cheaper here. This here is basically an osmo with less components, less software, less functionality, yet it costs more
Hello, I hope you can answer me because no one provides this info. 1) From the Insta software is it possible to record a video directly on a mac? 2) Is it possible to choose which microphone to use (for example macbook air or external microphone)? Many thanks in advance.
Thank you for such a detailed review ! Do you know though if the gesture features and the modes are still preserved when you just have a zoom, Google meet call or it only works through its app?
I'm imagining that you could set this up with a macro command so with the push of a button on say a stream deck, it would both switch the scene and the camera positioning. Really impressed by the quality of the camera.
Smart tracking, gesture recognition, deskview, whiteboard mode all included, it's perfect for streamers! This year, apart from link, I also saw another brand, aicoco, release a smart camera with similar features, both of which look great!
Honestly didn't expect to watch all 19mins of this video. I'm just sat here thinking - the quality of this could easily replace a DSLR/Mirrorless camera/cam link setup. 1 Cable, much cheaper and great AF. Awesome for talking head videos/streaming etc
Interested to see how the software improves. If you could do motion control with it, as in set a timeline of camera moves and have it run through the sequence, I would say it's absolutely worth the price
Hi, for it to use auto-tracking, do you need to install the software or can it simply work with the built-in firmware? E.g. can I use auto-tracking in Linux by simply connecting it to a computer and activating it via gestures (if needed)? Thank you.

Honestly didn't expect to watch all 19mins of this video. I'm just sat here thinking - the quality of this could easily replace a DSLR/Mirrorless camera/cam link setup. 1 Cable, much cheaper and great AF. Awesome for talking head videos/streaming etc
Fantastic review. In fact, perfect! Thank you very much!
I’m pretty late subscriber to your channel. However, I really enjoy your passion about tech. Also, you got me investigating new keys for my keyboard.
Interested to see how the software improves. If you could do motion control with it, as in set a timeline of camera moves and have it run through the sequence, I would say it's absolutely worth the price
I just ordered this. Didn't watch the whole video, is the mic quality mentioned?
Hi, for it to use auto-tracking, do you need to install the software or can it simply work with the built-in firmware? E.g. can I use auto-tracking in Linux by simply connecting it to a computer and activating it via gestures (if needed)? Thank you.
The dynamic range is absolutely wild
What clamp did you use to house the camera so it was pointing the body down on the monitor?
Exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks.
I wish you did a test on the 1080p 60 as that's the sweetspot for streaming and recording.
