I think it's the fear of pressing too hard and breaking it that makes the sound better... The sound becomes more tearful with the despair contained within it
Thing is, i think she’s playing each violin at the best of their capabilities. There’s a reason why the cheapest one gets played more aggressively and the other she’s able to manipulate the sound more. The high value of the second violin is also in that.

You played much more slowly on the second more expensive, with more musicality. I’d love to see you play exactly the same on both. Or so the flip and play slowly and with more musicality on the $500 violin.

Back in the 90s when I was 15 a luthier just casually handed me a 100k dollar violin to try. I was astounded.
