  • Discover the secret attics in this Renaissance chateau, which for hundreds of years was lived in by French counts and marquis!
I'm delighted to welcome you into my home, and to take you on a personal tour. There's so much to see that I've had to split the tour into several parts. This week I'll show you the hidden attics, which aren't usually seen. Discover the old servants rooms that haven't been touched in over a hundred years, see the dust-covered antique furniture left by previous generations, and travel back in time as we step into the chateau's original defensive ring, and see the openings from which boiling oil could have been poured onto attackers. Follow me to the attics!!!
It's the moment we've all been waiting for - a full tour of the Chateau de Lalande! I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to do this, but I never felt that the chateau was fully ready! But I've realised that I'll always feel that way, and part of the beauty of a historic home like this is that it's always a work in progress. Restoring Lalande is the creative passion of my life ❤️🏰❤️
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
This weekly vlog follows the adventures of chatelaine Stephanie in her French 16th century home, the Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. As you can imagine, your help means more to me now than ever. Because of you, I'll be able to keep living at Lalande and making videos even though our chambres d'hotes income has been decimated by the coronavirus. I’ve been overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity, On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

The chapel tile you mention at 13:12 that's blocking a hole in the attic; I suspect that to be the altar stone for the chapel altar? It would have slotted into the middle-front of the altar as a separate piece, that would have been consecrated by the bishop at the time. The 5 crosses on the stone resemble the 5 wounds of Christ, they usually have a relic inside of them but not always. They are made with marble so it maybe quite a weight! Absolutely love your videos, I aspire to own a chateau like yours one day! :) This is my favourite video so far!

I'm watching this in 2023 January. So interesting to see how much progress Stephanie and the LaLanders have made restoring the Chateau. Stephanie's bed crown with canopy was all hung. Her room is a beautiful shade of rosy pink with gold trim. Her bedding is that gorgeous pink toille. And the creche of the Nativity is not only been restored but has grown into the most gorgeous nativity scene with pieces acquired and added from Italy and Germany. I'm new to the channel. Only discovering it December of 2022 during their daily advent series. So it's fun to go back in time and watch the beginnings of the LaLand internet adventure.

I have a bit of concern about the beautiful 19th century green wallpaper, since arsenic was widely used to produce green color in wallpaper, during that period. You probably know more than I do about this, with your extensive and ever growing body of knowledge about history, but I thought I’d mention it, just in case.
What a wonderful idea of Michaels, to reproduce the missing portions of the wallpaper! The room will be stunning!
How hauntingly beautiful the attics are, Stephanie! I look forward to seeing how these rooms will look, once you have worked your magic on them! 💕
The bed in the green attic room is so very beautiful!
I loooove the attic bath room! And the Rapunzel in the tower moment! How adorable!

I like you and I like your channel. You are very entertaining and you have some real characters surrounding you. If there is a good way to be absolutely preposterous, you check off all the boxes. Eclectic is an understatement for your taste in virtually everything. From the way you dress to the things you collect and parade around you like you have a sense of fashion and décor, which you absolutely do not. lol You are so far over the top that I find it amazing that I truly like you. You are generally so bright and cheery that I always get a boost from your energy and come away feeling better about myself for having watched you. Please continue on with your pomposity. I find it most amusing. :)

Hello Stephanie! I have been watching every single vlog of yours on my days off work. You are a source of absolute positive energy in these difficult times. I have been travelling around Europe (at least before the lockdown) and have fallen in love with France. Seeing your beautiful home has further got me captivated. I love castles and chateaus ans I am so glad to find somebody who shares the same love for fairytale-in-reality 😁

Wow this is marvelous !! I loved this chateau very much and decided to subscribe. Please leave the old attic in the same state as it is as a museum from the smells of the past. Thank You !

Stephanie, your documentaries about your castle La Lande are - in my opinion- simply the best of your vlogs.
They are informative and show your knowledge of history of art, your affection and respect for the European culture, which for us Europeans is the most relevant one, logically
I admire your stamina, because it is really a big project to renovate a castle.
Everyone who is sighing under the burden of a renovation in his/her house should watch your reports and feel relieved at the comparably ridiculous size of their own house and therefore just small amount of work...
I hope you are proceeding well in the course of time and do not lose your good humour and strength.
Looking forward to many episodes to come.. :--)) and... Thank you.

I'm not upset at all to wait another week to see your apartment. I'm in fact glad that the tour has not ended! Lalande is so beautiful.

Your little chest of drawers might be a cutlery canteen :) It would be lovely refinished, also.

That wallpaper border is really nice, unique. My favorite of all things to see are the defensive parts of the chateau! When do we ever get to see something like that?!!! Fun tour❣️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Maybe ask Angel to help you with the wall paper. She as you know is a genius, shown on escape to the chateau

Did you know that Michael Petherick designed some of those wallpapers and fabrics Angel lays claim to? I was quite shocked as ‘escape to the chateau’ programme misled in this way.
