Finally, someone reacted to this song ! One of of S&C's underrated tracks. The lyrics are just sheer beauty. Plus, the lovely harmonies are ethereal. Great choice, Michael !
From their 1973 album, " Diamond Girl", their 5th album, this is a beautiful love song written for their wives. The first verse sung by Seals, the 2nd verse by Crofts and their magical harmonies blending in the chorus. The guitars and the inviting piano so heavenly, adding to the outstanding strings. Just as you say Harri, so simple, so perfect. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Michael 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Mary, This has always been one of my favorite songs by them. What I appreciate most is always a positive message of love from Seals and Crofts. Stay well! - Brooklyn Mike
Hi Cynthia, This has always been one of my favorite songs by them. What I appreciate most is always a positive message of love from Seals and Crofts. Stay well! - Brooklyn Mike
Thanks for the reaction Harri. They have always been one of my favorite artists. I saw them in concert three times and have a funny story from the second time. I saw them at the Arie Crown Theatre in downtown Chicago with a friend of mine. We were sitting pretty close to the stage on the right side of the theatre. I was sitting in the third seat from the aisle with two empty seats next to me. When the concert began they brought out and introduced England Dan and John Ford Coley (England Dan is Jimmy Seals brother) who were just stating out at the time and they played a couple of songs. When they first brought them on stage two ladies sat in the empty seats next to me and they were cheering them on in a huge way. After they were done the two ladies left. My friend and I were wondering what was going on any why they left afterwards. Before Seals & Crofts started their set they told the audience that they were going to bring their wives on stage to introduce them to everyone. If you guessed that it was the two ladies that had sat next to me, you would be correct. So in conclusion, their wives sat next to me and I had no clue at the time even though I had seen pictures of them on the inside of one of their records albums.
Thank you so much for listening to this one and reacting. I really wish more folks would investigate their music because the story in each song has a home in every that understands. Please give “Wayland the Rabbit” a listen as it is a warning of war and the loneliness of missing a loved one. ❤️
As stated here, the song is about their wives. Jim Seals married a black woman, Ruby Jean Anderson. The lyric “you are the rich brown earth, I’m the flowers that grow.” always gave me chills! Great song !
Ruby Jean Seals is Jim’s wife. She is African-American. The lyric, “you are the rich brown earth and I am the flowers that grow” is one of my favorite lyrics of all time. Pure poetry. Imagine being able to play that song to their children to hear how deep his love is for their mother. Amazing. PS: They sing the names of two of their children Joshua and Lua in the background vocals.
Love the great harmonies of Seals & Crofts. They were an American soft rock duo who had a lot of great songs in the 70's such as "Get Closer", "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)", "I'll Play For You", "Castles In The Sand", "You're The Love" etc. Sadly Jim Seals passed away last year.

Ruby Jean and Billy Lee are their wives.
The song is a tribute to their wives and their spiritual life in the Baha'i faith.
My favorite song they did.
Also, after the line "We'll have children," the background vocals say "Lua, Joshua," which are the names of Dash's daughter and Jim's son.
An ode to their wives. RIP Jim Seals
Ruby Jean and Billy Lee are their wives. They are of the Baha'i faith. Their beliefs are echoed through much of their music.
I’m a sucker for beautiful harmonies and these guys never disappoint. The lyrics in this song are wonderful too. Thanks Mike and Harri. 🌺✌️

I love this freakin song! I believe it's written for their wives
Nice song
I have always loved Seals & Croft. Such beautiful music and harmonies. I still play my vinyl from the 70’s💕✌🏻
they were both members of the Baha'i religion... a VERY loving, beautiful religion... it helps explain their music and their writing...
Very insightful commentary😊
Love these guys. 😊
Thank you. I've been waiting for this one❤ Such a good album.

They're singing about their wives and their faith, Baha'i
Saw them in concert at the Strand in Redondo Beach. Ca. Jan 17 1994. The day of the Northridge Earthquake.
Lots and lots of Baha'i imagery in these songs.
