    I had the coupe and now I have the roadster! The roadster being the better of the 2 with more power a bigger better battery and more tech. It’s a misunderstood and underestimated car that is definitely unique. I’m happy to have 1 of 2000 available roadsters in the US market; an instant classic!

    I think people really underestimate just how powerful of a Technological Automotive Designer and Auto Manufacture BMW is! And they (BMW, Rolls Royce and Mini) are becoming more advanced as we go into the future!

    The 0-60 paradigm has shifted so much that supercars get beat to 60 by Kias and Hyundais. There will always be quicker cars, but the i8 has a unique presence that is almost unmatched. I have had an i8 for 6 1/2 years and I still look forward to every drive - and It still feels quick to me. The torque to weight ratio is actually quite high. Btw, the displacement of the 3 cylinder is 1.5 liters. Andy, I'm glad you appreciate the car, it’s special.

      Day 2 of my i8 ownership ('19 white/blue/giga amido roadster), and why did I wait so long. I love it. Bought ironically at a Porsche dealership, and got a 6/65 bumper to bumper warranty, and smiled all the way home. Drop across state and funny how it gets reactions. Some guy drove circles around the car then got in front of me and slowed down. I was sort of annoyed until I realized he wanted me to give it a little rip. Is it a tesla plaid fast? no. But it does have a soul, unlike the S or my wife's X. It is fast enough to have alot of fun.

      0-60 doesn’t mean anything nowadays where a Tesla S will smoke a Pagani or Koenisegg…I mean I bet you Simon Biles is faster than a Victoria Secret super model ..

      Any issues with the ownership so far for any of you? What year if you don’t mind me asking. Really looking at maybe 2017 but scared of the possibly issues.

      @@itzcemplaceyou need 10k handy annually for an i8, 4-5k is for the insurance the rest for maintenance, it might be less for maintenance depending but if the AC compressor breaks that’s 20k repair..unless you catch the issue before it totally fails and so you can get it fixed for 6 to 8k.

    So the A/C compressor failed. Did it leave you stranded? Can you still drive the i8 with a non functional A/C ?

    • @AndyLaRides
      @AndyLaRides  6 месяцев назад +5

      Hey! So a/c was not working, “powertrain malfunction” light was on, it was blowing hot air only. Most of a systems had some codes, but car was drivable. As soon as compressor got replaced, all the issues gone!

      @@AndyLaRides I had the AC issue on my 2014 i8 (23,500 miles) in March 2024 and it just needed a re-gas.
      The AC was not cold and there was a very fast tapping noise and i was told off LOTS of people that the AC had failed and would need replacing costing thousands. I took it to an AC specialist and he said straight away it required a re-gas. The car should hold 630 grams of gas, mine was down to 70 grams. He topped it up and it has been great every since (about 4 months, 3,000 miles).

      @@AndyLaRides watch that compressor, several other owners' channels said it can shoot filings into the cooling system which is MUCH bigger job to get done.

    Hey mate, you're not supposed to open the hood by one person!! Proper way is 2 person job and you have to lift it both from front end and rear end (near windshield), 2 hands and both side (left & right) at same time. The hinges are very thin aluminium and can bent so the hood wont align 100% anymore.

    this car is the ultimate LA car because it looks way more expensive than it is, it's a sports car not a hyper car but most LA women will see it and think it's some crazy super car like a Lamborghini Reventon or something

    I have a model x perf and i8. model x def feels faster even as a simple acceleration push as i8 I have to stomp it more. BUT the quality, handle, the sound (straight pipe mine lol), and feel beats the Tesla all day. only complain of my past 5 years ownership was the ac I ever had and door strut. so underrated imo
