I loved living near the fire station. We had the same electricity line with them, thus at times when we had a power outage, it was restored in 2 hours because fire station needed it. An they never turned on sirens within the neighborhood. They started the sirens only when they are out on a bigger road.

As someone who is renting a room next to a fire station in CA, I can confirm I never got power outages despite the news stating there are rolling outages from PG&E all across east bay. That was nice because I had a report to turn in for an online class

I went to college in Raleigh, NC and people within 2 blocks of the University would complain about drunk students peeing in their yards or having loud parties. The catholic elementary school near me in VA is a nightmare with traffic from parents picking up and dropping off every day. I agree with not buying near a school or a fire station. Wife and I rented an apartment on the same road as a fire station. It was a nightmare with alarms 24/7. I would second not buying in an HOA. My cousin lives in an HOA and they have way too many restrictions and rules including having him required to get an architectural landscaper whenever he wants to even change plantings of trees, flowers, etc. in his yard. I would also say don't buy a home in flood zone. The house down the street from us is in a flood zone in VA and that house constantly has water in the basement.

If the house is located near a high school, then you may get to hear the marching band practicing.

its only worth it when living near a school that is rated A by state or national ratings.

I don't think it has to be an "A" personally but the better the school, the better the neighborhood, etc....generally speaking.

I love home close to school. I also sold a small home right in front of a school and I sold in 3 days on the market. So is not all true what you’re saying. People love it.

About living near a school which I did for 25 years and that is marching band practice. The school near me started at 7 am. Blocks away you could hear it. Beating drums, clashing cymbals and a surprisingly loud tuba. I actually enjoyed it, but it's not for everyone and it is really loud.

Same here with where I live................We don't mind it but there are definitely people who do.

@@JebSmith I found it invigorating. Here I was having a cup of coffee in my nightgown and robe knowing there were people trotting about beating vigorously on drums and carrying huge tubas they had to blow into. For some reason it made me feel better about myself.

Just sell the house as-is, buyer to verify permits. It is so costly in money and time to get stuff permitted. No thank you.

Oh god not more domt buy in an HOA......comeon now you dont say some houses have issues so dont buy a house at all. Why do it with an HOA? More often than not a condo or townhome will have an HOA. A single family community with amenties will have an HOA. Who would manage these amenties without one, people whine about HOAs but love all the benefits of one. All HOAs are not bad Alot of times its clear when a community doesnt have an HOA. Just tired of people making the "in thing to hate or to want" the hot topic. The main people that complain are tbose thst want all the benefits and amenities but refuse to pay.
