Chris Pine, who is set to return as Nicholas Devereaux in the upcoming Princess Diaries 3 sequel, has expressed interest in directing the third installment. Pine mentioned that he has been looking forward to the project but has not heard anything yet. He suggested that Luca Guadagnino Challengers could be the ideal candidate for the role, as he has a strong track record in dealing with romance and highlighting the divide between generations. Pine believes that an unusual director could make the project unforgettable, as seen with Greta Gerwig's Barbie. The script for The Princess Diaries 3 is currently being written by Aadrita Mukerji, who has written episodes of Scorpion and Supergirl. Hathaway has expressed interest in the project, but no information has been released yet.

To have an unusual italian director is a good idea. Anne and Chris are now more experienced and they could carry on more complex and better performances.
I would like to see Anne and Chris together, but it do not have to be a secuel. The plot enemies to lovers was a good idea. Look at Julia Roberts and Richard Gere: they fell in love in "Pretty woman" and in "Runaway Bride".
