What a great, natural teacher you are Nicole. I’d nearly be tempted to take up the bodhrán myself!

This is the first Instructor IMO, that really got down to the bare bones BEGINNING if you will, of how to play this drum. She showed me the first beating heart of the Bodhran to the Jig. I salute her for a sterling Job! Truly, former Lieutenant Commander John O'Sullivan, my immigrating ancestors came from Counties what are now Cork and Kerry. Castletown Bere to be precise, and they dropped the O', thinking that ignorant American Colonials would think them of American, or American- Sounding backgrounds/stock. They were in my estimate of history at the time, were correct at least 60+% of the time, at least until they opened their mouths. Har!

Excellent lesson thank you! I am a fairly accomplished drummer with things like trap set and snare drum and I’ve been doing bodhran for quite a while, but I really want to improve it and I am sure going back to the basics will really help.

Stumbled across Nicolle‘s bodhran lessons here on YT and then learned she is giving lessons at the OAIM. Lucky me! I have already subscribed to improve my mandolin and zouk skills, so I have also bought a drum now - and here we go. I really like the charming way Nicolle is teaching the bodhran.

@@onlineacademyofirishmusic I wanted to save some money, so I bought it second hand. Here in Germany you will mostly find Meinl or Hedwitschak. After reading about Christian’s craftsmanship I decided for a CoreLine 15“.

Does it have to be a sideways hit or could you do more direct. Just feels awkward for me holding the drum this way
