But you have to switch your phone to airplane mode and make sure uou enable wifi calling in the settings…i was able to talk to my husband longer for free. FYI.

    I have no plans to retire to the Philippines, nor have I been! But somehow I ended up in the expats living in the Philippines algorithm after watching some random videos (it's interesting to learn about other countries). I haven't subbed to any of the channels apart from this one. It's good stuff Mike! For me I see it as sharing a lot of wisdom about life in general like retirement planning and I like the way you deliver it. I will say, as someone who has spent the majority of my adult life living in foreign countries (I'm in my 40s now), that from comments I'm reading, it's incredible how many people who spent their whole lives in their home country (apart from holidays) just suddenly leave and literally start a new life in a totally foreign land, without ever of having lived in a foreign country before as a resident. I don't think many people realise how huge that is, with a right of passage that won't always be nice... I guess that's why so many people seemed to get scammed and make other errors that should be easily avoided. It's great channels like this help people in this situation. By the way the bank/credit cards tip was brilliant. So true.

      It is a huge undertaking when you move to a new country and it's basically contrary to the one you lived in and a country that is different all together and undeveloped to boot. Yet don't think that every expat that moves there, stays there, NO, a few will either die there or most will move back to their home country.

    Hello Mike, always giving good advice (subscriber). Just heard you say that you lived in New Mexico for awhile. I'm from Albuquerque. My girlfriend and I just got back from visiting the Philippines for 3 weeks, we loved it (Manila, Baguio, La Union, San Fernando, Binalonan Pangasinan). My Girlfriend is from Binalonan. My girlfriend's last vacation in PI was 7 years ago ( I didn't go, working), My last time there was in 1979, Subic bay, was in the Navy. I loved it there, the Filipino people are so nice and kind, just so beautiful, my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed also, especially cuz I was with her this time. We are determined to keep going back and for longer periods of time since we are both retired now. Keep the informational advice coming. Thanks!!

    Can only think of one thing that I have not heard mentioned before. If you are currently living in the US and are married to a filipina. You can apply at your local Philippine embassy for a 13a marriage visa before you go to the Philippines and you could have that visa already in your passport before you go. Still pretty sure I would get an onward ticket just to make sure I can get to the Philippines.

    • @Amen.22
      @Amen.22 6 месяцев назад

      Magic Jack uses VoIP like many others like google voice. Google voice won’t work long term, maybe 6 months at the most. Many banks won’t accept VoIP. I’ve heard that Tello, US mobile, Mint mobile and others work. I can get Tello for $5.00 a month. They said that I have to be in the US to get it, then I can move to another country and use it for calls and texts as long as I have internet. I currently live on Guam and I don’t want to fly half way around the world just to sign up for phone service. I’ll try to get a U.S. address from ipostal1 or some other postal service. Then maybe I can get Tello. My biggest concern is being able to login to my bank and credit card accounts.

Also curious why so many people seem to take so much cash with them, I can understand having enough for an emergency, but wouldn't you use a Debit card to get money vs exchanging cash normally?
