the problem with that is that this newer generation thinks it's easier and cheaper to take their issues to a mechanic that blows smoke up their ass instead of looking up videos like this and learning the trade.
I've gone through dozens of tool/socket reviews. You are very impressive! your speech is cohesive and well articulated. I learned much more in your video about these swivel sockets and the adapter alternatives.
Great job as usual. The only thing I'd like to interject after pricing out this kit and comparing it to their 10 piece set is this. The 10 piece set is a LOT cheaper and the 5 sockets that are missing are sockets that are too big or small for practical use with a 3/8 driver. The 10 piece goes from 10mm to 19mm also with no skips. In my opinion these are the perfect sizes for 3/8. Any Fastener with a head smaller than 10 and I'd grab my 1/4 and anything over 19 and I'm definitely grabbing my 1/2". At the price difference I'm seeing, it'd make more sense to by the 10 piece and put the money saved towards another kit for 1/2" drive.
Nice review SK tools are the unsung professional tool better than hardware store not as expensive as tool truck yet they deliver an exceptional value. You do a very professional video I have seen a few and find them very well done Thanks Jeff
That's a really great set of swivel sockets and I'm glad that you covered the difference between the impact sockets, swivel adapters, and the regular non-impact sockets. I think a lot of people don't care like you said then they act surprised when they break their expensive sockets. I added this set to my short list of tools I want to get in 2021. In the meantime I have to settle for the adapters. Thanks!
@@boxerfan2 . The starter in my Accord is buried almost beneath the engine. This set with a nice impact gun might have been very helpful when I had to replace it. I ended up breaking the bolt and had to have the mechanic finish the job after I went I went through all that trouble.
have you ever compared swivel sockets side-by-side? I know there's a couple different construction styles for the swivel mechanism that have advantages and disadvantages.
I'd be tempted if SK had more dealers in canada. Hard to get ahold of them and to get them warrantied after. Ended up buying 1/2 and 3/8 drive snap on sets. They have been great and I never have to worry about warranty.
SLIDEWAYSLIDEWAY If you go to SK's website and email them about warranty work, they will give you an address to mail the broken tool(s) to. I thought it sounded like a pain when I first heard it, but I mailed them the 3 items that needed warranty work, and they mailed me 3 replacements. It was much easier than I expected it to be.
Because they are made with different metals. The sockets for impact guns are more malleable which means the higher and more constant force of a hand tool will bend them easier than the impact gun.
I have seen these Sk sockets in a green plastic molded case too. I think the case is much better than rails. Also, I want to just diagree with the idea that these shouldn't be used with 1/2 drive impacts. The drive size means nothing really, it is all about the torque. I have a makita electric impact that only puts out 100ft/lbs so it is fine to use.
+Everett Clunie I don't use them enough to give you an accurate statement either way......however, I have not heard complaints from people who own them.
At upwards of $333 for the 15-piece set, I would prefer the 7-piece set from Harbor Freight at $33 and making do with a universal socket setup for the others. One could play a lot of Bingo with the $300 savings. At Amazon you could buy 1/2" Sunex sets for
Great video!! let me know how often you use that 20mm impact swivel socket lol I prefer the pinless type because, in confined areas that collar takes a beating. SK should go back to their green plastic socket rails. Keep the videos coming!!!
+Fedwrench Thanks! :) I have yet to try any pinless ones, but I did see them at SEMA last year (Gearwrench). I think SK has some coming out at some point, so hopefully we will at least get to see them at SEMA in another week. As far as the 20mm goes....I think you may be right, it could still be in perfect condition this time next year ;)
I am 75 years old,I have doing this since 4 years old,DO YOU KNOW THERE IS ASTRO ANGLE WRENCH,I LOVE THET IMPACT GUN IT IS REAL GOOD FOR TIGHTS PLACE SPECIALLY WORKING ON BRAKE JOB👍👍👍👍😱😱😱😱😱
I was very disappointed when discontinued pneumatic guns, ratchets. I know the company when through some period of adjustment over the past 10 years. But as of 2016 how do you rate the overall quality of there tools, and do you think they measure up to what SK put out 15/20 years ago.
I know this is an old video, but could you elaborate on why impact sockets are not suitable for use with hand tools? I thought that they were just built sturdier than the have tool counterpart
im looking at the grey pneumatic master set. these will cost a little more to get a set as complete. i kinda like the made in usa. do you see any difference in quality between the two. havent actually saw or held either one
+Brad Brinegar Grey Pneumatic does NOT honor any warranty for Sockets sold on Amazon (or any other "non authorized seller"). I would use caution. SK is a very nice set except for the socket rail....easy enough fix though 👍
For that price, i'd almost rather pay a little more to get the snap on set and gain the ease of warranty swap outs, the sunnex or grey sets seem like better choices for cheap sets
I have spent twenty years working in GM dealerships and never had an issue using impact swivels with hand tools. I used to do it all the time. Nice set but why waste money on a 20mm socket you will never use?
+Andrew Morency Probably the same reason that the socket rail manufacturers include them on every one they sell....it would be the next incremental size, and although they arent common currently....it would be very likely that any of the major manufacturers could start using 20mm bolts/nuts with the introduction of new models or model years. For people who work only on Honda vehicles, a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, & 19mm will take care of 99% of fasteners, but it is nice to know that the other sizes are there just in case.
+houa vang The problem is the socket size.....the Skidmore uses a 2" nut, so (especially with 3/8" sockets) it is next to impossible with the current setup. I am working on getting more sizes, and if I do get some smaller ones in soon I will add that to the list. Judging from the Torque VS Torque Loss video I did, I would say it would be AT LEAST an additional 10% loss in power by using a universal joint + socket VS swivel socket only.
off course yyou can use the impact socket with hand tools.... if it can handle 400 ft-lbs the mini impact put out you cant put out that torque by hand....
i used my 15 mm swivel gp with my ir232 on a reducer...several times...till she finally snapped haha...not like it was only used once, it was a god awful amount over years...so while you are right, it will take years for it to finally break...that said, i just broke the pin in my 1/2 inch swivel adapter that was a matco adv...with that same old 232 haha
+bighunterman77 I agree that "most likely" they wont break the first time......but with the current lineup of extremely powerful 1/2" impacts (2235, 1250K, DCF899), they do run the risk of snapping them extremely quickly --- vs the older (less powerful) 1/2" impacts. It is one of those things that if I say it, hopefully it will prevent someone from accidentally ruining their tools.
I hate all the rail designs. I’m old enough to remember that all good sockets came in metal trays that had a folded lip on the side so that The Whole set could hand from a drawer diver, etc. I guess the metal trays added too much cost to the set.
This is a must have tool for every mechanic's i bought the Snap on 10 mm to 24 mm set it is expensive tho! Around 700$ but i had 250$ off so for around 500$ i think it was a good deal still expensive but you know thats the way it is. Do you know how mich this SK set goes for ???
Broke one the other day removing a brake caliper by hand. And the sk truck quit stopping by bc he bitched that every time he stopped a tool was broken and needed fixed or replaced. Funny thing the Snap On guy never bitches and never once has he accused me off abusing them to get out of it either.
I love SK, as of Now they make up the bulk of my hand tools. However, my friends call SK "Slip n Kill" My fear is that if a swivel socket fails, You can bust your face open pretty easily. So I tempted to buy Snap-On swivel sockets. I've only bought Snap-On ratchets, that was a few years ago. I'm not really a fan of Snap-on, they don't make their money from tools. They make their money off of DEBT snowballs from their franchisee's and Automotive Tech students. Over 50% of their profit's come from financing tools to their dealers. That's a poor business model IMO and the stock market seems to agree. Eventually this bubble may pop.
I have thes sockets the only ones ive used in 12 years are 10mm 12mm 13mm and 14 and 15 the rest ive sold they are a waist of money to buy the whopd set from the snap on cuhz ur not gonna use the whole set
Probably wouldnt hurt them.....but IF I say that & someone breaks one & then gets a warranty denied, they blame me......so, I stick to what the manufacturer says ---- no hand tool use.
The only thing I don't like about your videos, is that there aren't enough viewers.
You deserve 10x the amount of subscribers you have.
Well thanks! :)

I saw that too but if I can get the extra sockets then why not? (rhetorical).
demonstrating the caliper nut and tie rod sold me .

Great review, for some reason I just want to hear "I'm Tom Boddett for Motel 6, and we'll keep the light on for you."
+Charles Jones Haha....thats a new one ;)
you make the best reviews I've ever seen you don't bull shit on anything

Just picked up the 10 piece set of these can't beat them for the money.
fuzzy wuzzy yea ok dude
fuzzy wuzzy yea ok tough guy
The best tool when needing to remove bell housing bolts!!
And the damn ford truck starters.
@@boxerfan2 . The starter in my Accord is buried almost beneath the engine. This set with a nice impact gun might have been very helpful when I had to replace it. I ended up breaking the bolt and had to have the mechanic finish the job after I went I went through all that trouble.
No kidding!
Amazing video, because of the fact you pointed out the pro's en cons of the different systems.
With nano socket they will be the same size with the adapter. I love your videos and breakdowns.
have you ever compared swivel sockets side-by-side? I know there's a couple different construction styles for the swivel mechanism that have advantages and disadvantages.
Good that they've clearly marked the sockets, I've gone about etching my impacts and I've rarely wasted such time.
Excellent video. Really impressed with the explanations of why one would want swivels like these. Now I want.
I'd be tempted if SK had more dealers in canada. Hard to get ahold of them and to get them warrantied after. Ended up buying 1/2 and 3/8 drive snap on sets. They have been great and I never have to worry about warranty.
I bought the 10 piece set a week ago. These sockets are sweet.
+Stephen Cunningham Haha funny timing :) I am glad you like them!
+Stephen Cunningham
they run $130 that is great price !
Sounds awesome until you see the price. Man! You gotta REALLY want 'em!
I saw the price and my jaw dropped. Then I immediately added the set to my 2021 wish list. lol
Ain't that the truth. I love SK but damn. I think they've gone up over the years.
I never knew that it was bad to use an impact socket with a hand ratchet. I do it so often for the convenience and never had an issue. Great review.
Never seen them before for impact wrench usage. They seem to work great.
+Luca Car Mods Thanks!
On swivel impact ones I would recommend the pinless ones the ones that are ball x rated locking mechanism like Astro world or matco
S-k tools are great quality but it's very hard to find distributors and warranty centers.

I use impact swivel sockets with an extension and hand ratchet at work don't know why you say they are not made for that.
Because they are made with different metals. The sockets for impact guns are more malleable which means the higher and more constant force of a hand tool will bend them easier than the impact gun.
great review! do they aslo come in 1/2 inch drive?
You make great content. I am a DIYer. This is the fifth or so video by you I have seen.
Hello sir. You have a good voice

How well do these retain tension over time? You've had them for awhile now so I was just wondering. Thanks!
+Everett Clunie I don't use them enough to give you an accurate statement either way......however, I have not heard complaints from people who own them.
I have Armstrong pan-less and I wouldn't go with anything else. Matco also has them if you want truck service for warranty
How about comparing them to the US made pinless swivel impact sockets set.
How does this set compare to Sunex's swivel impact sockets, a Taiwanese manufactured product?
OdinsCloud SK tools are USA made.
I'd love a set of those. Use a normal swivel can be sketchy, being that they can throw the socket off.
wobble socket are a must for transmission if you do a bunch of em

thanks for the heads up on that. i have all of mine in trays or rails with detent balls. i mainly just need the swivels anyway.
are these pinned or pinless swivel sockets? i heard the pinless is better
+Ivan Belen I think the people selling pinless sockets are the ones spreading those "facts".....these are pinned & work excellent.
Thank you sir. I wi just buy the pinned ones. The pinless are too expensive anyways.
Could you give us more info on that sweet stubby impact you were using and maybe the fittings used and air line used?
+derpie2000 It was a Chicago Pneumatic CP7731 (3/8" impact) with 3/8" fittings (and 1/4" npt threads) going through a 1/2" Flexzilla air hose :)
should test the swivel to be used as hand tool. will it hold up?

take it on ,, I love Tekton tools
are these sk or sunex? they look like sunex.
I need this for the nuts on the drive shaft I keep slipping wrench keys with
+ski77z Nothing beats having the right tool for the job.....good choice!
would you consider these or the matco pinless style
I heard the pinless versions were having issues with the sides blowing out of them....perhaps that has been resolved, but I like these just fine.
weirdest kromed tool ive ever seen... love the video man
Nice job
+George S Thanks a lot George!
I need a swivel set like this, Ive been using u joints, and they just are meh
I love them
+rmartinjr83 Me too!
My only issue is getting warranty for sk no dealers around
You can ship it to sk and they will fix it free of charge
I have set of snap on
+rmartinjr83 Nice...how do you like them?
good job
+Сергей Карапузов Thanks!
i have matco and look the same
what about these vs the gearwrench set?
Gearwrench is not a company (APEX) that is interested in tool reviewers ---- at least with me. If that changes, I will be happy to include them.
trueee
using impact sockets on a ratchet will not cause any damage
when have you ever used a 20 mil? haha
+bighunterman77 I use it all the time! I find it & know that my 19mm goes right next to it! ;) haha
Whenever a Ford car comes in with chrome 19mm lugs
Jesus!!! these thing
s are $250!!!!
+krissrock just think....if they were normally $500 --- that would be half price!!
$330 now.
They are $250 and don't call him Jesus.
My grampa worked for sk in The 80s
Says made in USA in title of video but on the socket it says made in Taiwan
It reads "USA" on the SK swivel sockets, the "Taiwan" label is on the standard impact socket.
what's with the sweater lighting up lol
It is heated.
Real Tool Reviews Ooohh that's dope. I would say I need one, but I live in Cali, haha
If those are made in usa why is the socket say taiwan
I only buy master sets.
I have thes sockets the only ones ive used in 12 years are 10mm 12mm 13mm and 14 and 15 the rest ive sold they are a waist of money to buy the whopd set from the snap on cuhz ur not gonna use the whole set
Uhh is the link in your description right? 🤨 $350 !?! Whhaaat. Fail
Very expensive tools!
+
Really? i should not use them with hand tools.
Probably wouldnt hurt them.....but IF I say that & someone breaks one & then gets a warranty denied, they blame me......so, I stick to what the manufacturer says ---- no hand tool use.
That is very smart.
It sucks SK tools are no longer an American made company and has been bought by a Chinese company
Just go get the Harbor Freight ones and save yourself a ton of money
