1950's Auto Yard Hidden in the Forest | More than 400 Vintage Cars | Destination Adventure

- I have driven past this auto yard for years, and have always wondered what was hidden behind the gate. You can see one row of cars from the road, and they are completely overgrown and hidden in the surrounding forest and foliage. I knew I was going to see some amazing stuff during this explore, but I had no idea just how much was there. This wrecking yard started in the 1950's and only ran for a few years but accumulated a huge amount of cars. Back then they were just regular every day cars and trucks, but today they are very sought after relics and treasures.
Even though this wrecking yard isn't technically a working yard now, but Doug is still adding cars to his collection and selling all kinds of irreplaceable parts and complete vehicles. This was a very interesting and fascinating one for me and I think you will all enjoy it as well.

My dad would have loved this place!! 💚
My mother's family had a farm in the Catskills of NY. When 1 car, truck, tractor, or machine would cease to do its' job they would simply "get another." Some had just run out of gas or needed a battery! Well, after a while, the hedgerows of the farm became "junkyards" in their own right. When her uncle passed on her aunt sold...and sold...and sold. For 2 weeks there was a steady stream of trucks, trailers, rollbacks, wreckers, etc.coming off that mountain. The year was c.1972.......to me- it was a sad end to a 14 year old's playground! This video hit home...thanks!
I wish there was a "LOVE" button on RUclips. I love old cars. Junkyards out in the woods, run by older, knowledgeable gentlemen are like the holy grail to me. Great video Dustin, thanks so much.
Spent a lot of time there as a kid picking parts for ‘51 F1. Learned all my swear words from him too... Great guy and super knowledgeable.
This is the perfect comment. I dig it.
Woooooow
@@Destination_Adventure Is the yard located in Canada?
@@michaelwalter3399 Williams Lake, BC
This guy is like an older version of Mike hall the rust bros tv guy who also had a Field of cars called the car grave yard he and this guy would be Best buds lol they are both the same they know everything about cars and collect them
buddy, ive been a car nut since 1972, and his lot is what my heaven would look like. ive never ever seen a collection like that.
Bob Sibson was a gas station owner and operator for 17 and a half years and was my dad, he died in 2017. He began in the 1950's He might have worked on one or two of those 400 cars. So now, those cars are now running in Cuba cause that's all they got parts for and that's all they do restore is old cars in Cuba. In those days, you had your window washed, oil checked, tires checked, that as you were getting your gas, and if you needed work on your car, he and his old mechanics did that too. Great video and thanks for the memories.
Your videos are so under viewed for what they deserve. Your quality is solid.
Well said.👏👏👏
Truth.
Just imagine if all these cars were restored to working condition. It would be a fortune to get them to working condition but it would be worth it. They are a piece of art.
That’s what Jay Leno’s garage looked like before he got there.
@@markkasprzak995 haha. Right...
i saw an 47 oldsmobile 2 doors , very rare car
I think they should all be hauled to an open , flat place... Like the high desert., And then turned into a road as ide attraction.
Epic video Dustin. Doug and his wrecking yard are true gold. They don't make guys like him or places like that anymore. I've been going there since I was 15. Had our wedding pics done there and family photos with the kids too. Many dreams have started with a trip to Shaw Autowreckers!
Where is this yard? Looks great
@@christopherwalton5445 Dustin said Williams Lake, BC.
The really amazing thing here is the man who owns the cars.
What a memory he has!
It was crazy walking around with him. So much knowledge
Where In bc is it?

Car production was stopped during WWII, so everyone had to make do with the cars they had. A lot of them were worn out before the war even started. However, the lack of new cars meant that those prewar cars were literally driven until the wheels fell off and then put back together. That all changed after the war especially when the new models started coming out. Cars were built and sold at a rate never seen before. That is why you almost never see any of the 1930s or older cars, yet sometimes you can still find places like this packed with late 40's early 50's cars. Great video!
I am an ole gal nut! I love cars but especially old ones. I love this video. Gramma Candy
I could sit and listen to Doug all day. What an interesting character.
Lovely video!!! A mans pride and joy. Even if all the negative comments are flowing in, which they need to be ignored. It’s wonderful to see the old cars and listen to the stories behind him. Good that this man has a passion!! More people need a passion in life🙂
What a fascinating old character!! He certainly knows his cars. Gill 🇬🇧
God, hearing about all these old cars and the passion. Warms my heart.
Those are cars that each have a distinct personality unlike the crap that looks all the same today. Thanks Doug and Dustin !
This is so cool! Right around the corner from my house and had no idea there were so many treasures!!!
This almost what I would call heaven on earth! I could spend endless days in a place like this.
I absolutely love this video. I could listen to Mr. Shaw all day long.
Such a gem of a video. I don't know what had more character; the amazing vehicles sitting in nature or Doug himself.
I hope you are able to accomplish your dreams making these videos. So many times, I watch your videos glued to the screen thinking “What an adventure”. I think your videos give the childhood dream of exploration and adventure a spark for us. Thank you for your time, and the talent you put into this. I appreciate you and the cause.
I've been a car guy since before my memory was developed around five years old. In my teens and twenties I'd been a gear head. And I still love cars today particularly vintage cars. What I'm seeing in this video are a lot of cars that could have had parts sold from them but instead all except for one car have been left unprotected to deteriorate and becomes completely ruined, as now they don't have much for even basic parts at all. It's just a yard of sadness.
I have to agree ...what is the point in keeping them until they completely decay???
Sounds like they are for sale for a decent price, go buy them.
His dad started the business and he passed. So basically this guy ran his dad's business iinto the woods.Sad and this guy is proud of this auto salvage yard. Hint cut down some trees let the sun dry out these cars before they are part of the earth...
Dunno.. Decay has some aesthetic appeal too.
This was an amazing episode. 🎉. Nixe to see some of the older well built vehicles of my childhood thanks for sharing 👍
Wow awesome, what an incredible collection of cars. Excellent video.
Isn't that wild?! That ain't no Ford or Chevy! 🤗❤️ Awesome Dustin, recording this guys thoughts for posterity. Classic.
That Was Awesome!! You would never get me out of there.
I Would LOVE To See All of Them Cars & Trucks AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME
What a great day that would be indeed. Some cool stuff to look at and a 1 on 1 tour from a man that’s a part of Canadian automotive history. With a Personality you won’t forget. Great video Dustin!
Finally getting an evening to sit down a watch a few episodes and I’m starting here. Great start.
Thak u for sharing this Dustin. Sure don't make them like they used too.
What a memorable experience.
More from this place pleases. Lots more to see. This guy is great.
Thank You Dustin For Doing This. I Love The Cars! Great Video!
I love that old guy. You can tell he loves it there, and the best part is he was always selling.
I’ve spent a lot of time in that yard
And it’s always good talking to Doug
Great Video thanks
Hey there! I'm in BC and see a vehicle I'm looking for. Do you have any contact info or an address for the yard? Cheers!
@@orangewhipster apparently it is in Williams Lake….maybe you can narrow it down from there. 🤞🏼
@@deendrew36 I've talked to them already ..but thanks!
@@orangewhipster did you get anything?
@@deendrew36 not from this yard. What I was looking at was sisterly extremely rusty and not buildable at all.
But I did find what I was looking for, bought it, and it was delivered this morning!
Amazing place love good old people like this GOD🙌BLESS. Cool video 👍
Durant Motors Sedan, Fargo truck and the "Meteor." WOW rare!
Wow .thats alot of cars .Doug is very knowledgeable. He knows every car in there ...very cool.
Awesome video Dustin. Keep up the great job !
I've driven past that lot 100's if not 1000's of times. Friend of a family member was restoring a car and got some parts there. He knows exactly where everything is in that yard. I still remember it as a gas station with the mechanical pump.
Do you know were this is I’m from BC and would love to go there to look at all the cars and maybe buy one
Thank you so much for showing us this. This is a glimpse into automotive history that very few people have likely had the chance to see. From a car, history, and a lover of dilapidated and derelict items, this was an amazing episode.
I would love to see his yard. I LOVE vintage cars. Especially belaires
11:30. Wow! I remember the Plymouth pick up truck. I have only ever seen one of them.
👉amazing car in the backyard.. Very cool.. 🤘😎
Love💞 the classic Cars trucks 🚗 What amazing adventure Thank you Dustin 🙏I learned a lot I want to get a car or truck as well And I also enjoyed your hat 🌴with the tropicalTrees I need to get For my husband 😎
All I can type is WOW, there was a channel that disappeared, showed the Pearson Junkyard in Death Valley, the photog would “paint” the old cars with lights, awesome pictures, that junkyard was cleaned up several years ago, damn I miss that channel, don’t know what happened, but, this vid is just as awesome, they took pics at night, the Chrysler Imperial was my favorite, good work Dustin, keep it up, love your finds, fascinating!!
The long hood on that 47 Plymouth is what we tobogganed down hills on as a kid.
I've been watching your videos for about a week now. Today I finally subscribed.
Welcome to the team amigo.

"Isn't that wild? Ain't that wild?" Just love the old fart! Prolly one of my relatives...
I can't help but think I saw this guy's place on one of those "weird collections" TV series, in the 90s.
Awesome video again Dustin and what a great way to show off Doug's yard!
Well done Dustin.
My uncle had a Fargo...interesting.
New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦
This one is my favorite so far...such an amazing story of a bygone era...cheers to mor adventures!
This guys knowledge of his vehicles is amazing. It looks like so many of the cars are too far gone to be restored sadly, but there are some treasures there for sure.
Yup! now that’s a very cool find and very well done vid!
Thanks for the watch!!
Really enjoyed this video...closest thing to being there, nice photos , nice interview. I would love to tour this yard, but I'm in Michigan
(USA) and the border with Canada is closed. (Covid)
I would buy something just to give Mr. Shaw some bucks, and save it from the fate of
$/lb. at the end.
Thanks again...🤠
i love this style of video ... thanks for sharing

Great video Dustin!! Been ridding and driving past there all my life heading to my families places in Springhouse, always wanted to go and take a look around.
great video . A treasure trove for sure, the real Gems are people like Doug. thanks for sharing bro, keep up the good work. cheers
Dustin, beautiful & heartfelt.
Thanks for showing me that there is hope yet for old car gear heads to find stuff that dreams are made of .
I was so sure that all the wreckers had disappeared.
There was a time when you could go to auto wreckers and see these things awaiting revival. Not any more .that place is a gold mine for gearheads . I wish to meet that man soon . I just want to walk through with him and hear his story and the vast information he has .thanks
So much car history and rusting potential! WOW great vid buddy!
Wow love these places
New to your channel, Another Awesome Video, Thanks
Fantastic video !! Your quality is second to no one. Wow. You have a gift, thanks for sharing. Cheers
Get a hold of Jay leno. He might need a few more in his collection!
I hope one day you are able to go back and buy that old seafood green truck!! It absolutely screams Sunday adventure truck !!!
That was a great video .I enjoyed that. What a shame that there are a lot of vehicles there just rotting away. but a lot of history there! Thanks Dustin Cheers!
Thanks
Another awesome video. Tks
Great video! Those Mercury and Fargo trucks would be a rarity down here in the U.S.👍😃
I live just up the road and always wondered how many were in there. Thank You :D
Really excited for this one.I'd love to spend an afternoon with this guy touring the yard
Great video! Do you think he’d let me build a cabin in there and move myself in...?
Congrats on getting featured on the boing boing website today Dustin!
Absolutely amazing! I would love to see it.
This is a really good video. Doug is an excellent guide, he really knows his stuff and is a true enthusiast. Lots of nice domestic cars and some pretty rare ones in there too like the Mercurys, low light Morris Minor, MK1 Jag sedan. Yards like this have mostly vanished now so this is a treat.
One note on the Fargo, in the late 1970s I started work for Bell Telephone and although they weren't as flashy as the Ford's and Chevs the build quality of the Dodge(Fargo) trucks was impressive.
Cheers!
just TO COOL==I AM ==84== AND HAVE OWNED A LOT OF THOSE VEHICLES==NICE VIDEO''
The color of the Fargo truck was desert turquoise. Small back window 4 headlight unit. Great old power wagons.
I gotta get my ass out there. Next summer hopefully!! I'll haul out as much as I can afford, especially that Fargo so I can stuff a 2 stroke Detroit in it!!😁
Wow! This was really neat! That old guy there bought himself a retro Gold mine!
You could say that he knows all his individual piles of rust
He actually inhereted it from his parents.
Only a gold mine if he’s willing to sell them. Sometimes guys like this can’t let them go.
@@cyndicunanan400 90% of what is in My yard is for sale , all you need is Money , and I will deliver up to 200 or so miles ( after 50 miles for a fee ) .
@@cyndicunanan400 He definitely sells them.
Well done.....great story.
Doug is a certified beautician.
An amazing collection. In New Zealand there is Horopito motors,National park. Formerly owned by Bill Cole, his son took it over. My friend Roger and I use to visit back in the eighties for parts. Used in the 1975 film "Smash Palace" starring Bruno Lawrence. It is the largest wreckage & salvage site in the southern hemisphere. As well as north american, you can find cars from all over the world.
Been to Shaw wreckers several times and bought a few parts here and there, that place has lots of treasures!!
This adventure was dope yo!!
Very cool Dustin. Down here in Georgia we have a similar junkyard called Old Car City. The owner actually runs it as a Musuem and charges admission. It is real popular with photographers. Hope to be able to check it out soon
I realy like dad's old recker
Thanks Dustin, that was amazing.
Time to start selling before they are rotten beyond repair. ....great video
They’re all for sale. Just gotta find the buyers :). And thank you
Lot of nice cars there shame there Ruston in the ground thank you for the video
Another great video 👍
Way cool! Thanks man!
We had a guy in our town who had a large woodlot filled with several hundred cars like this, all 30s, 40s, 50s, maybe some earlier. He lived on a dirt dead-end road and had these hand-painted warning signs that trespassers would be shot. The woods had swallowed up the cars, and you would only see them in the winter when the leaves were down. Even then they blended into the forest due to all the overgrowth. He wouldn't sell anything, not even parts. I had a friend who owned a salvage yard nearby and actually knew this guy (few people did).
My understanding was he thought of the cars as his retirement, but he was in his 70s when I was there. He died in the mid-90s and the cars rotted for a few more years, trees growing through windshields and engine hoods. One summer a group of workers showed up, cut the trees around the cars, they took everything in a three-day period. Never heard, who bought the hulks, very hush hush.
I loved this video!
Another great video .
These are my favorite places.. I live on the east side of Canada and places like this still exist but the cars are usually rotten at least to the waist line. Even cars from the 80 and 90s are not match for the moist salty humid air.
They look better than my vw camper van and I love them looking rotten. Old skool all the way
Great stories man!
I liked the mercury pickup that was so kool .thanks for sharing .i sub.to your channel very kool
Love this!
Can't wait to watch !!!
