    As a regular visitor to Denmark, I simply don't recognise the jaundiced views expressed by 'politicaltourist'.
    To answer some of the points made, I see more garbage on the streets in the United Kingdom than in Denmark! The centre of Copenhagen, does have it's parks, so there ARE trees, and the buildings are not ugly! The food is NOT bad, and there are some very good restaurants, some of the which are world famous! Buses and trains are frequent and run on time, and as for so called rush hour madness, try travelling on the tube in London!
    The people are friendly, laid back and hospitable and do their best to make you welcome, so please don't be put off by any negative remarks from others!

    As a student its great, the reality of being an expat in Denmark is very different.

    • @gnawershreth
      @gnawershreth 6 лет назад

      How so? I'm really curious.
      I see expats complaining from time to time but it rarely seems to be about anything concrete from my experience. It sounds mostly like it's just the expats in question having trouble settling in to a different culture really.
      I mean, you're obviously going to have to do things like learning the language eventually if you plan on staying here and feeling like a part of the society. You can't really expect Danes to keep speaking English forever in their own country just because there's a foreigner around who can't be bothered learning the local language for example, and that seems to be what a lot of expats expect for whatever reason. It's crazy. Danes speak Danish to each other when in Denmark, that should be expected.

    • @Donnah1979

      +louie branko vidaury - the wages in general are good, although there is no lawful minimum wage. Wages are negotiated between worker - and employer unions.
      It can be difficult to migrate to Denmark though. There are strict rules about that.

      There are some, of course, but the unskilled or low educated laboreres are under pressure, because the jobs are fewer + people from East Europe migrate up here for jobs. (It's relatively easy for those who are in the EU to move here.)

  • @br3ak_
    @br3ak_ 3 года назад +1

    I wonder how many interviews they took and they only selected these ones. I'm from Romania and lived in Aarhus for 2 years, and the way my compatriot described living there is nothing like my experience. The only good things about Denmark are the cash, and how much you can save if you're a professional worker, and the overall educated people. But it's not a country humans were made to live in, it's way too cold almost all year round, some people are very friendly and you can make good friends but overall people are crisp. career oriented and with a superior attitude, they're very nationalistic, bachelour/master degrees from outside of Denmark and Scandinavia/Germany are almost consider null. There are things that are very weird about this country that you only figure out once you're there. It attracts some kinds of people, but the majority would not enjoy it there, best way to figure it out is to live in Denmark a while and see if it's for you.

    As a long-term expat here, with more than fluent Danish skills, I still find this place a let down.
    Public transport is great, it's quite clean and well organised, it looks nice.
    On the other hand, if you haven't got a Danish qualification forget any job prospects - even PhDs and Master's degrees don't count unless they are Danish (apparently they are superior).
    Danes like foreigners - to either practice their English, or to feel superior.
    DO NOT CRITICISE DENMARK - even small things. they've got no sense of self depreciation.
    Everything costs way too much.
    The weather is good for three months of the year, if you are lucky.
    The most unspectacular place on earth!!!
    Give it a try :o)

    • @gnawershreth
      @gnawershreth 8 лет назад +13

      +mikkel “Smacked Fly” larsen Yeah, the only parts of his comment that I see the slightest bit of truth in are costs and weather. And both of those obviously depend on who you're comparing us to. We're cheap compared to Norway and have longer and warmer summers than they do as well. We're a Nordic country though so if people come here thinking it'll be just like Paris or whatever then obviously they'll get disappointed.
      I honestly wonder if he's ever even been here. Some of what he's saying it just plain false so either he got it from some right wing anti-social democracy nutjob fest or he's just trying to insult people.
      People are more than welcome to criticize Denmark but if it's just objectively false BS, of course people are going to call you out on it. Danes criticize Denmark all the damn time. It's like the national hobby. lol

    Anyone who spends even a day in Denmark realizes that 'something is rotten in the Kingdom of Denmark'. It is a rich country where garbage is very commonly found... well everywhere. The Danes take no pride in their surroundings. There are hardly any flowers on the balconies, the vast majority of buildings are ugly, squeaking... The center of Copenhagen has few trees (unless you walk around Tivoli) it would take so little to make the urban environment more pleasant but they don't concern themselves with such trivialities. They even keep the old, ugly windows because they are too stingy to replace them despite the cold... The food is bad. They invented 'New Danish Cuisine' which is basically a poor variation of Polish and Baltic sea food you find in Vilnius and Warsaw only 1,000% - 2,000% more expensive... The transport system is horrendous, the metro carriages tiny (rush hour madness) and if the conductors find out you are even a minute late on your metro subscription they will fine you the equivalent of what an old car would cost you in America. The buses are not air conditioned and so you boil in the summer + the fragrance of the aromas are something else as hardly any Dane uses deodorant (for more info scroll back to the old windows comment). In all fairness I have only experienced Copenhagen but as 1 in 3 Danes lives there I think it is not much better in the countryside (else they wouldn't be escaping to Copenhagen in droves...)
