    My city, despite being touted as a bike friendly city, does this crap all the time. Bike paths that make you defy death by crossing highways or going on narrow af shoulders and stuff.

    There is definitely a lot of logistics behind the scenes. I love that there is so much help in the background. Thank you, van gang, and everyone else involved!

    This reminds me of when I went to a festival in Birmingham (UK) and got a coach back early morning, when we got near where I lived I drunkenly insisted the driver let me off on this dual carriageway, which to my surprise and eternal confusion, he did. Then he peeled off and left me stranded on a narrow layby with traffic going past at 60. This was before Googlemaps. I had to climb up a sheer banking, feeling like I was going to fall back down onto the road at any moment, up to the housing estate above the road, then walk a mile back to my house. Fun times. This made great content anyway, even if it was fucking terrifying for you!

    Cyclethon has caught some flaws in Japan's cycle infrastructure. At least Japan is the one country where they will actually respond to some concerns/deficiencies and signpost it better or add a cycle lane though.

    0:24 That's a no stopping sign, presumably because the road is too narrow.
    1:21 -and that's the van stopping.
    I guess you can't help but rack up a few minor traffic violations when you bike and drive for 2 weeks straight.

      Well… most road systems and rules are just not meant for this kind of cross-country, much less the apps the layman rely on to do this (I'm sure there's bike apps with better navigation but requires lots of dedication to verify it.)

      Maybe it's just a culture thing and not law, but the general attitude I get in the US is that you should feel okay to break traffic rules for safety's sake. Stopping your van in a zone which is marked no-stopping to communicate to the cyclists you're responsible for, as a one-off thing, so that they can figure out a safe path, is not going to get you a ticket from most traffic cops in the areas I grew up in.

    • @Rinniepho
      @Rinniepho Месяц назад +2

      in some countries it's acceptable to stop even if it's not allowed as long as it is for an emergency situation, or to preserve safety, in this case, well, it would be for the van gang to make sure connor and chris were safe

    • @takatamiyagawa5688
      @takatamiyagawa5688 Месяц назад +1

      @@Rinniepho They had radios for this sort of occurrence. Plus the van was wider than the bikes, so stopping it here just gets in the way of the other traffic even more.
