Cruz-Romo was a rather... robust... Desdemona. Domingo and Milnes are magical. This is the only instance of her name I've found mentioned in association with major opera performances. Domingo is beyond amazing. Truly, one of the greatest tenors ever, if not the greatest. I adore his work.

+UppityG Gilda Cruz Romo sang in all the major opera houses of the world in the 1970's. At the Met: Ballo, Aida, Otello, Manon Lescaut, Suor Angelica, Butterfly etc. These are the roles I heard her in there. She was very, very beloved of NY audiences. There are posts in youtube of her singing Ballo with Richard Tucker in a Met broadcast from 1973. There is also a Trovatore with Muti (from Maggio Musicale, I think), among other things. Check her out.

Never heard Domingo in person. He was scheduled to sing "Otello" in Chicago on Lyric Opera's opening night. But this was immediately after the 1985 Mexico earthquake, during which PD begged off his major opera house commitments sufficiently to visit Mexico City.
I prefer Gilda in this role for her adorable acting and of course her voice ‼️

I always liked Cruz-Romo, but she doesn't seem in her best voice here. She sounds a little thin to my ears, which her voice at its best was not. Maybe not fully warmed up?
I remember seeing this live telecast. Pretty surce GCR's sound was richer in the subsequent acts.
