  • "If you fall, well you fall. Rather the butterfly's life, to have lived for a day and been free." I just had to do a video for this beautiful, spirited song! The movie "Papillon" made a lasting impression on my mind too!
"Free as the Wind" was adapted from a theme song in the 1973 film "Papillon", which was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. The film is based on the autobiography of Henri Charriere, a Frenchman nicknamed "Papillon" (a French word meaning butterfly) who was wrongly convicted of murdering a pimp in 1930s France and sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island. The film score was composed by Jerry Goldsmith. The lyrics of the adapted song were written by Hal Shaper. It was first released as a single by Englebert Humperdinck in March 1974.
