    Ive been freestyling a 7" quad for awhile, and i prefer it over any other sized quad, so its nice to see a company finally bringing light to these bigger quads. They aren't just for LR cruising! In tighter proximity, yeah, just use a 6" prop which will tame that down a bit, and make it a bit more nimble. The only thing about this RR 7" version, IMO, it's under-motored. Trust me, go with a Brother Hobby 2806.5 motor, especially if you're going with a 2200 Mah lipo. As far as a 6" prop, Azure 6145 BSP by far the best!

    • @3eggerfpv397
      @3eggerfpv397 2 года назад

      @WU LYU Yeah, it will pretty much fly just like a 6" but in my case, with those BH motors, it flys with a whole lot more power than a typical 6" set-up! Have a look!

      Although the initial thumbnail depicts a 7" prop, this flight was with the Azure 6145 BSP!

      @WU LYU - with those xing 2806.5 motors, you should have the same effect. I would definitely suggest those Azure 6145 BSP props as they're the best I've found by far!
      Although, make no mistake, you're going to get a much faster flight, not as agile, but faster all around, with a 7" prop, which I prefer, using the HQ 7X4X3 prop!

    Flying 7 inch Since spring of last year as my goto rig. My tips
    1When I break an arm I cut it down and use a jig to redrill it into a 5 inch arm and use it on the same model of drone that is my 5 inch racer.
    2 Also I have all 1 ah( 1000mah) batteries and i have 3 in plugs on the 7 inch. And can choose 1 2 or 3 batteries in parallel. More nimble but less flight time Or max time but slow/ harder to flip.

    I've been using 6" frames for my freestyle builds for years. I rarely fly anything bigger than a 5" prop, but having the option is nice, and I've always figured that having a slightly wider platform should be a bit more stable anyway.
    The big deal here is that you're increasing the area of the prop without significantly increasing the weight of the quad. A 7" prop has double the surface area of a 5" prop. A 6" prop has nearly 50% more surface area. Your 7" isn't twice as heavy as a 5" freestyle build, and that's fantastic.
    There's an cheap option for anyone who wants a taste of this. I've been able to squeeze 5.5" props onto several different 5" frames. The blades are only 0.25" longer, but the surface area is still 25% larger than a 5". The HQ 5.5x3.5x3 is a pretty good freestyle prop. You still get a lot of that 6" bite and some of the efficiency, but you don't give up all of that 5" feel.

    So basically it's a dedicated long range setup but with some higher kv motors to keep the throttle down i guess. I doubt it's gonna handle constant full throttle punches well but that's not the point of a cruiser anyways so it should be a good cruising around rig.

    I've been freestyling a 7" build (Source One frame, T-Motor F80 2408 1900KV motors, HQ 7x4.5 biblades, running on 6S) since early this year. Don't think I could ever go back to 5". The sheer ease of clearing obstacles and the LOUD biblades are just too addictive :)
    FWIW, they're not that difficult at all to tune, thanks to Bardwell and UAV Tech's tuning tips. The quad runs Betaflight 4.1.6 and I followed Bardwell's RPM filtering (including having both filter sliders all the way to 2x), set I term relax to 10, disabled D min, PID master slider at 1.3, PD gain and PD balance at 1.1, stick response gain at 0.9. My rates are around 700 deg/s with a bit of expo. Super fast and nimble even with a GoPro -- you could even fly it *almost* like a race quad if you want to, it hardly struggles on sudden changes in direction (eg. 180 deg turns), veeeery little if no propwash, and motors stay relatively cool after 2-3 minutes of tooling around :)

      My 6s2p Lithium Ion 7inch cruises at 15-18 amps and I have no problems doing casual freeroaming/cinematic kinds of freestyle. Hitting 23 minutes flying on 5600-6000mah 6s2p landing at 3v per cell. Having a 3s or 4s drone doesnt make any sense unless there is very good reason to handicap yourself to that voltage. Boost the voltage if possible and your amps will go down if you are careful with motor/prop selection.
      Only with the small drones do you really wind up having to be stuck with like a 3s pack. But even my 3.5in on 3s can get some pretty good cruising/diving. I do all my crasy shit at the top half of the pack when voltage is at 3.8v or higher then settle down for the rest of the pack from 3.6 to 3v.
      As for flying like a jack ass, my 10inch flys really damn well on 6s2p LithiumIon. 9 minutes flight time landing at 3.6v doing shit like big lazy matty flips(20-30deg uptilt). 3115 640kv Tornados are magic. May try 8s2p on it soon.

    Somehow I once managed to fly for ~12-13 Minutes on a 4S 1500mAh CNHL Black Series. It was not dead afterwards. Admittedly it was just some mild cruising and no flips or tricks. Just some parcours around bushes and trees. I have no clue as to how it lasted this long.

    I think I could strap a car battery to my 7 inch and it would still fly. Lots of lift. I use 6S 1500 and 1800mAh batteries. Long flight times. I would say a 7inch seems to float more than a 5 inch. You flip it inverted and it seems to sort of hang there forever . It is nice to have one for when I am in my 7 inch mood. LOL

    Well for a 7" thats not a lot of flighttime. Try some 20A 18650 cells to make a 4s 2p pack so you have a 7000mah pack. I flew for 35min with a 7" and such a pack.

    I built my first 5" Xilo JB edition and I fly over 7 minutes on 1500 4s and land with over 3.7v/cell. Have recordings from my googles. Granted, I don't mount Go pro and am only learning to fly, so just cruising, shooting gaps and doing some rolls, but anyway I land because I want to rest, not because the battery is empty.

    Most 7" have a ton of vibration compared to 5". Video stabilisation has smoothed out this video. Another issue with 7" is the props break often when you use high kv motors and freestyle hard. In my opinion 7" is best for long range efficient slow cruising.

    • @dividingbyzerofpv6748
      @dividingbyzerofpv6748 3 года назад

      It's two things contributing to that, small motors and too light of quad weight that causes the props load and unload.
      Throw a big battery on there and watch it dampen out with the weight thanks to prop speed increasing to get off the ground.
      I have several examples where I increased my footage playback speed 150-200% looking for bobbles and could not find any.
      Total AUW is 1350g for a 7in with a 6000mah 6s2p LIIon and 2806.3 1300kv BrotherHobby motors. Drone will cruise at 40mph for 23minutes at 15-18amps smooth as can be.
      Versus past experiments which were 7in builds with 2306 1600kv motors that were only running 1800mah 4s packs. Wobble city in even the most smooth wind conditions.

    • @changeagent228
      @changeagent228 3 года назад

      @@dividingbyzerofpv6748 1300kg yes I bet that dampens it somewhat. Most my 7" quads I tested with freestyle were in the AUW 500g to 700g range with a single 200g battery. I tried 6s 2306 1600kv, 4s 2206 1450kv, 4s 2206 2300kv and 6s 2306.5 1700kv motors. I did try some heavier triple and double battery configs and yes the overall shaking reduced but then it felt heavy for freestyle and became a better cruiser. I have always preferred a floaty twitchy feel versus heavy for freestyle. Next I'm going to try 2408.5, 2806.5 and 2508. Agreed I love the long cruises. 😄👍

      @@changeagent228 way too light.
      My 7in is around 1350g AUW with a 6s2p LiIon and a Hero 7 and you are right it isnt a "twitchy" build.
      Buuuuut you might check out my recent video on my 10inch... on an 1800mah 6s it is a MattyFlipping son of a bitch. Also flys really well on 6s2p LiIon.
      Try going heavier on your 7in and just realize flying it hard is a bit different prospect. Choose a style where momentum works for you.
      I was too light for a long time til JET told me to just chuck a 4000+mah LiPo on and have at it. Yup it dampened right out and I had my first 12+ minute flight landing at 3.8v per cell.
      Bigger quads I am no longer afraid to weigh them down.

      @@dividingbyzerofpv6748 Yeah I get 13 mins on my 2306.5 5" GF51466 + DJI AU with a 1800mAh 6s cruising long range at 65kph. On my next 7" build which I will use only for uber long flight time cruising I was planning a large battery of 400g minimum perhaps as much as 600g and have a 6s 7000mAh. I wondered about 8" 10" and bigger but I think I will stick to 7" first and see how I do. I like the look of those zohd lion packs but will probably just spot weld my own. Will probably make do with a lipo first till I have tested it thoroughly though. Tesla motors announced their new higher discharge amperage, slightly higher density cells recently and I'm interested in seeing if I can source some of those to build a pack when they release soon. Which lion cells are you using?

    What is a good discharge rating for a 7 inch? My 5 inch batteries are 100c - 120c. Larger batteries like 3200 and 400mah are listed as 60c. Is 60c enough for chasing and minor freestyle? I'm flying a Mr. Croc frame with Emax 2807 motors at 1500kv. DJI video, Racerstar 45a F7 stack with 915mhz ELRS. Flies great with 1550mah 4s and 7" or 6" props.
