I still use winamp but for a reason NOT mentioned in the video above: its support for third party plugins that expand immensely its functionality, such as making it compatible with tracker music or even native sound files from old video game consoles. I can listen to a soundtrack of my fave super nintendo games in a file weighing a measly few kilobytes with no loss in sound quality whatsoever. Standalone players exist for various old systems audio but winamp + a simple to install plugin package from overclocked remix lets me listen to music from all my fave games old an new, within the same player, no matter what system the audio is from.

"Creative Media Source" has enterd chat...
extra rare, unknown to many, uses hierarchy tree navigation and can play whole folders without even dragging them into playlist. Can use libraries, but doesn't have to unlike 95% of other players there.
Cons: can't play anything named in unicode symbols, v.5 was released before windows 7.

@ MPC-HC from K-Lite Codecs is the best. It works so much better than VLC especially in potato systems. I have a system where 1080p videos are completely unplayable on VLC but work fine with MPC.

I saw Winamp first time as a teenager on my colleague's Amiga computer... He had around 20 songs (obviously from legal source...), and I remember how I was stunned... The sound quality, the ease of use... and these were the times when we have played the music from casette tapes (I even had the walkman from Sony), and games from 3.5 inch disks... Beautiful days I miss them...

LOL. I remember my dad bought a CD burner for an old PC in the early 2000s and it came with a copy of Nero. I recently found it a few months ago and tried to use it. It installed just fine, but since it was meant for very old systems, it couldn't detect my SATA DVD/CD burner.
