- How to use the /tellraw command in Minecraft! [1.19.2] I made a tutorial on this command literally six years ago, so it was time to make a more modern version.
It’s super easy to learn, but pretty hard to master. Also the exact same format applies for titles, books, and most text in Minecraft, so this is a very valuable command to learn.

And it works with cheats off

This only exists because Julian (the creator of the end poem) requested it as a way to obscure text but still have it there (to give you the idea that they are speaking something you cannot comprehend), he's also the reason to why putting "PLAYERNAME" in any text (which includes Tellraw) says the name of the entity that sees the text
it's accessable ingame for the sake of map making
The obfuscate feature is honestly one of my favorites, so cool and useful

I finally just realized that Minecraft basically uses jsons in its commands
It is json
It literalls uses json
For bedrock edition:
/tellraw @a {"rawtext":[{"text":"§eHerobrine joined the game"}]}
You can display the scoreboard value too. For example:
/tellraw @a {"rawtext":[{"score":{"name":" ","objective":" "}}]}
/tellraw @a {"rawtext":[{"text":"§e§lName Joined The Game"}]}

at 6:30, the translate feature is based on the lang\*.json files. let's say you have your language set as US english, the file containing all the lines and everything for that language will be stored in lang\en_us.json. If you wanna use a line from the file, you would input {"translate":"the.identifier.for.the.object.eg"}. this will output whatever the button at the top of the pause menu says in the user's selected language. You can edit the lang files with a resource pack to add custom text by just adding a new line in the same style but unless you edit the line for every single available language, it will only work for the one(s) you've added/changed lines to.
and at 3:20, true/false don't need quotations because they're boolean values, strings are usually encased in quote marks but integers, floating points and booleans aren't.
Thank you Yellow for showing us this video

I was here I’m not the same yellow
Another great tutorial, keep the good work

I use tellraw frequently but i thought it was only useful for messages! Definetively will be trying it
As a person who understands JSON, this was a piece of cake.
I mean, if yellow watches this... It makes sense, its redstone ,commands....
Honestly, that's something I'd do even without you trying to mess with me
Omg this is so cute 😭 yellow has a playlist on his channel, and it’s red stone tutorials ❤
I’ve known about tellraw forever now but still an amazing command
i came from yellows video!!!!

the fitnessgram pacer test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues.
I would like to add that you can just use "" in place of {"text":""}.
/tellraw @a " This is a test" works, if you don't want to change the colors and such.
this works for any of the json formats (I'm pretty sure)
I feel personally attacked that your jump key is 'q'

I want to prank my friend who doesn't know how to use commands by telling him to give me op and saying that increases quality, when I'm going to make it that I left the game, and then I'm going to start trolling using the tellraw command, I'm gonna really have to be careful because I only get one shot at this prank, I won't be able to do it again because then he'll know if I reveal it what the op command actually does, to be honest I can still call him and survival 😂
Yellow must use this to mess with people a lot
or he just likes the yellow text
i did this like a month ago with a friend that was high on weed, paranoia is now a main factor in his daily minecraft life as well as thinking he said stuff he didnt
nice scout tf2 reference in the beginning
3:24 The "tellraw" seems to take 2 arguments: who should see the message and a json object (Javascript Object Notation) containing the text and how it should be formated. true and false don't need quotations there because true and false are already actual values in Java (and Javascript). If the types of the values don't match, then they are automatically converted to the required type (only string/text needs needs quotations).
The format that he is showing in this video for the tellraw command is JSON format with the possible JSON inputs that mojang has encoded into chat functions, welcome to the world of programming if you actually followed this tutorial! RUclips sends video titles, links, recommended videos, channel names, view counts, like counts, etc in JSON and the RUclips app or webpage decodeds them and displays them the same as Minecraft is decoding the information for the tellraw command
No one cares
Jason is also used in beamng vehicles.
Finally i can have a friend
Ok let’s be honest, your here because of yellow.
True
6:30 Like with the key binds, you have to take a translation string (Minecraft uses them and in the translation files stand, which it should be replaced with.)
if anyone is interested heres an explanation on the computer science coding part behind it.
each group of curly brackets is a "dictionary" (this syntax is exatly like python my best language) meaning that something can be assigned a value *. for example, "text":"hi there" sets the value of "text" in this dictionary to "hi there". Each of these dictionaries is seen as one part of the thing you want in chat, and commas seperate the different values in the dictionary you want to define for the text that will be printed, as well as the seperate dictionaries
The square brackets make an "array" or "list". It literally is just a list of values seperated by commas. or in this case, a list of dictionaries. Without it there would be an error if you tried to make multiple dictionaries
anything in " " is a string, which is a type of variable that is just a 'string' of letters (crazy innit)
the reason true and false arent in " " is because they are not a string. another type of variable in coding is booleans, which can only be yes or no, true or false. They are not identified with " ", just by not misspelling true or false. different people who know different languages might have different opinions (like its a JSON object or it returns 0 or 1 etc) but that doesn't matter all different explanations for the exact same use (in all the languages i know about at least)
"
" just means new line you don't need a dictionary because when the computer looks at it it doesnt see "
", it sees:
"
"
because the "\" is goofy and im not bothered to explain it since it would take a while so just accept "
" is new line.
if you really wanna know (if you even unterstood a word of what i just said lol) just reply and ask
i might answer with a better explanation
or research it
* think of it like an irl dictionary - the word "dumb" is assigned "temporarily unable or unwilling to speak" (in official oxford languages dictionary there are a lot but heres one lol)
so when you check the dictionary for the value of variable "dumb", you get "temporarily unable or unwilling to speak" minecraft checkes the dictionary for the value of "text" and finds whatever you put there. once it constructs the finished striing with all the values you put in the dictionary matching to the right words ("text", "bold", etc.), it prints it to chat.
ok i wanted this to be a short explanation but like no one i know has an attention span these days so this might as well be a whole essay for you sorry
i bet youre not even reading this cuz you do not care at all
bye
the whole format of it is just called JSON
Yellow watching this haha
The "translate" operator is essentially used with a translation key that you may find in resource packs. For example, player joining the server is "multiplayer.player.joined". Now if you use it alone just like that: {"translation":"multiplayer.player.joined"}, it will print this thing: "%s joined the game" (if you're playing with English language, it will otherwise display in your selected language). If you see this "%s" thing in the message, then it means that's a placeholder that actually needs to be replaced with something. That something can actually be set with the "with" operator, like this: {"translation":"multiplayer.player.joined","with":["Herobrine"]} (note, the square brackets need to be there, it's literally a list of arguments for the replacement). The resulting string is "Herobrine joined the game". Now the actual join message is yellow, so this is the command you would run to have people think that Herobrine joined the game: /tellraw @a {"translation":"multiplayer.player.joined","with":["Herobrine"],"color":"yellow"}
This is pretty nifty if you ask me. :D And not only does it look convincing for English users, it actually looks convincing to all players regardless of whatever language they're using. Sneaky! Because nothing breaks immersion more than an English language join message that should be localized for the player playing for example with Spanish language selected in their game. Yeah.
can i see the build in the 0:01
so real Yellow watches these lmao
I... am immune, for I, have the power of the chat heads mod 😂
People whos video are in yellow playlist gonna be so confused
I used to do this a lot on my maps when command blocks were first introduced. Good times 🥲
The first noise of the video jumpscared me lol I had my volume on max
yellow stick figure was here
incase people want a little explanation, think of "true and false" as built in to the language, same as any other command would be, and think of things like "aqua" as a book-marked piece of data. its like a shortcut for typing in a hex code kinda thing.
its way more complicated than that, but thats just a basic explanation incase you're curious.
No, the explanation is that this is json which has 5 datatypes. Boolean, number, string, array and object. Only strings need quotation marks.
@@borstenpinsel fair, but that's also quite complicated for someone who has zero understanding of programming
Yellow sure loves redstone lol
I already knew how to use tellraw but good job
incredible how effective minecraft players are at figuring out how to use dev features without knowing what json syntax is
