We really cannot generalize, nowadays we must always be careful, especially in cities with a large flow of tourism. I have already witnessed some of these scams in Salvador and in other cities around the world. Thanks Tripster 🐼

I did travel alone, yes. I felt apprehensive by what everybody I was telling me (I am originally from Rio), but nothing happened and there was police all around. I think the feeling is similar to what people talk about Rio, everybody says it is extremely dangerous but in reality if you are sticking to the tourist areas, you should be fine. My trip to Salvador was amazing, and despite the apprehensiveness, I felt safe overall!
Thanks for the reply. I’ve been to Rio alone and agree that by using common sense and sticking to tourist areas, all should be good. I’ll use the same approach in Salvador.

Stick to the tourist areas, I got attacked and robbed in the middle of the afternoon on the beach in Pituba by two punks from the favela.
I’m glad you are ok! And you are right, I focused more on the Pelourinho area for this video, but I do mention the deserted streets, I guess the beach would be the same.
