If you want to use a few calibres related to the historical Japanese guns you can always look into 140mm(5.5 inch) guns as well as things like 12.1 inch guns, since the Japanese did have a tendency to do that with their Battleship calibre weaponry.
Kinda late but the idea of the russian pacific fleet seeing what it thinks are japanese sailboats charging at them before getting curbstomped is extremely funny
@BrotherMunro great to see you Riding w/ the Rising Sun. 🌅😁 I hope this Alpha test run is a success for your Mod. 🤞 I did want to point out one cursed thing I saw while designing my own 3-Mast Cruiser (for the start of my own Japanese Campaign). Try a small square barbette on your bow to mount a forward facing main gun (also, that module is currently bugged to unlock all the other barbettes... but you didn't hear that from me. This nifty trick legit works on a number of other cruiser hulls too!) 🤯
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 2 November 1900 First Foreign Orders for Japanese Warships The Principality of Bulgaria, recently allied to the Empire of Japan, has placed orders for two Shimakaze class destroyers, with construction names of Tsubaki and Isokaze, to be built at Matsuyama in the Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku.

Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 8 September 1898 The Newest Battleships of the Imperial Navy The Kaigun Kensetsu-Kyoku (Naval Construction Bureau) of the Kaigun-shō (Navy Ministry) has announced the specifications for the newest class of battleship for the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun (Navy of the Greater Japanese Empire or Imperial Japanese Navy). The Kankō class will consist of three ships, the Kankō, Sōryū, and Kanrin, all to be built out of Sasebo in the Nagasaki Prefecture on Kyūshū. Designed to a target displacement of 17,000 tons and a top speed of 18 knots, the class has triple expansion steam engines powered by steam from induced boilers burning coal vented through two funnels. They generate a total of 13,223 indicated horse power to turn two screws to obtain the required 18 knot speed with a range of 7000 nautical miles. Hydraulic power turns the balanced rudder. The main armament is two twin 12”/38 mark 2 gun turrets mounted fore and aft. These fire a balanced magazine of standard sized base fuze high explosive shells and armor piercing capped shells using white powder as the propellant and guncotton as the bursting charge. The turrets have anti-flash fire protection systems. The guns have enhanced reloading systems and advanced hydraulic turning engines. The 325 kg HE shells range to 14.9 km and the 520 kg AP shells to 16.3 km. The guns are aimed by the newest coincidence range finders. The class also carries an impressive six twin 7”/40 mark 3 gun turrets, three per side amidships, and fourteen casemate mounted 3”/30 mark 2 guns as the tertiary. Additionally the class has four underwater torpedo tubes, fore, aft and one per side, launching 18” standard torpedoes. The ship has extensive compartmentation with reinforced bulkheads, a double bottom hull, anti-torpedo protection, and anti-flooding systems. Armor is Harvey faced hardened nickel steel. It is 12” thick on the main belt, 6” thick on the extended belts, and 1.5” thick on the inner belt. The decks are 1.5” thick with 0.1” on the inner deck for splinter protection. The 12” turrets have 14” of face and barbette armor and 3” of top armor. The 7” turrets have 6” of face and barbette armor and 1.5” of top armor. The 3” casemates have 1.5” of armor. The class carries a crew of 1359 officers and enlisted men under the command of the Kaigun-taisa. Each ship costs $79 million and will take 16 months to complete with a commissioning time of three months at least. Estimated monthly maintenance in port is $12 million, but the ships are expected to spend their time in training and shakedown cruises.

Will six 7” guns on each beam be that much more effective than four 7” guns on each beam, with the mass-delta invested back into other design elements?
Regarding your light cruiser design - I don't add funnels giving engine efficiency much above 200%, (in vanilla) there are diminished returns above 200% to operational range and acceleration. I would stop at two of the largest funnels giving 180% and probably put the forward tower on the main deck, with a minute chance some useful gun(s) can be put on the forward deck. That fixed forward tower is... a problem.

just downloaded this mod today, started 1890 as japan, cant support more then 10 ships to start with, dunno if this is intentional but kinda puts me behind like by alot
What difficulty are you on? (The mod is balanced around normal difficulty) It’s pretty normal to have very small starting fleets, get your economy growing and build up your fleet over time
@@BrotherMunro normal, japan only gets around 75 million, which the battle ship is close to 30mil to start and heavies around 16, so its a bit of a hamstring compared to other nations who had around 30-50 ships to start, this is normal difficulty, im just curious if this is historically accurate and/or normal for japan , not used to modding haha

Why did those pre-dreadnoughts actually even have masts?
Seeing things and signalling probably
Will the official update reset the current save game progress? Thank you!
Nope! The mod doesn't break saves. I do have to update it when they update the game though
Ik this episode is a week old or so, but how do you turn on colors for countries, i haven't found that yet
There’s a little scroll button on the top right of the map, just press that :)

How do you select all ships at once in the fleet roster screen??

New Torpedo Boat Destroyers
The Kaigun Kensetsu-Kyoku of the Kaigun-shō has announced the specifications for the newest class of torpedo boat destroyers for the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun.
The Shimakaze class will consist of ten ships, the Shimakaze, Kashi, Samidare, Urakaze, Kiyoshimo, Nashi, Mutsuki, Yamagumo, Amatsukaze, and Fuyo, five to be built out of Yokosuka in the Kanagawa Prefecture on Honshu and five to be built at Matsuyama in the Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku. Designed to a target displacement of 850 tons and a top speed of 36 knots, the class has triple expansion steam engines powered by steam from naturally aspirated boilers burning coal vented through four funnels. They generate a total of 8.913 indicated horse power to turn two screws but their speed was cut down to 32 knots with a range of 3200 nautical miles. Hydraulic power turns the balanced rudder.
The main armament is four single 3”/30 mark 2 gun mounts on the centerline, two mounted forward with the second gun on an elevated barbette ‘super firing’ over the first, and two mounted after also with a super firing gun. The 9 kg HE shells range to 4.9 km and the 15 kg AP shells to 5.1 km. The guns are aimed by the newest coincidence range finders.
The class has one deck torpedo launcher launching 18” standard torpedoes.
The ship has standard compartmentation with reinforced bulkheads, a double bottom hull, and anti-flooding systems. Armor is Harvey faced hardened nickel steel but it is only 0.1” thick on the ship.
The class carries a crew of 117 officers and enlisted men under the command of the Kaigun-shōsa. Each ship costs $3.9 million and will take 8 months to complete with a commissioning time of one months at least. Estimated monthly maintenance in port is $0.2 million, but the ships are expected to spend their time in training and shakedown cruises before being assigned to various stations to defend the interests of the Empire against the ever increasing threats from the Imperial Russian court in Saint Petersburg.
i think munro just copied the bricks from austria hungary for his CA
Smaller than Russia..BUT Russia has the Kamchtika....
The new japanese hulls are so weird
just downloaded this mod today, started 1890 as japan, cant support more then 10 ships to start with, dunno if this is intentional but kinda puts me behind like by alot
@@kylegillard3343 normal for Japan - dip is somewhat harsher with the money compared to vanilla!

What's this mod referred to?
My own, its not out yet but will be soon. Details of the idea are in this video ruclips.net/video/7oa-jG-7CLA/видео.htmlsi=hk-2Hzh_0CMxKxVG
Has this got NAR as well or just your mod?
Just mine but I’m using elements from NAR in it like the costs, weights and guns
And to be clear I did ask before stealing stuff from NAR (and the balance mod) 😅
Damn, not first.
Which mod is it again that you can freely design the warships😅? You can put guns stuff in places where they couldnt otherwise😄
I want to free hand in next campaign..
There is a dreadnought in background meny im eager to know... it has 1fore main gun 4side main guns and 2 aft main guns.. 2funnels and 4belt casemates
Would love to design it
