For all you youngsters out there, (lol) this skit was a great parody of The Smothers Brothers, who were two white brothers that had a tv show back in the 60's. They sang & played guitar and upright bass just like Damon and Keenan did in these skits. The Smothers Brothers were actually very politically active, and got in a lot of trouble with the network for saying and doing things on their show that got them in trouble with the censors. This was a classic skit. Thanks for posting it.
@@kirklynch5049 That's not the point. ILC was able to enjoy several seasons during its run on a major broadcast TV channel because of the social climate at the time. Anybody who thinks that a show like SNL could run skits like these today without backlash from audiences is deluding themselves. Just look at what happened to Sharon Osbourne who just got fired today for asking what made a certain person a racist. Cancel culture and outrage mobs just weren't a huge thing back then as they are today.
Actually in it's final season most of the original cast was gone leaving only David alan Grier & Jim Carrey from 1st season and while they still did some good stuff, the show was losing it's edge and wisely ended B4 becoming as lame as SNL is today. ♣
Network interference (or 'notes' as it is more politely known in the trade) is what really killed off the show. Even during Keenen Ivory Wayans tenure, FOX would try and undermine his vision, which consequently led to him departing from his own creation.
@@jrmarrero96 White sabotage. Not only was the show entertaining, Keneen was trying to educate his people about social issues concerning black folks. And thas a no no. Don't ever try to expose or really challenge the system of white dominance.
Don't worry about those two "Toms"! Little did they know, you would soon show the world your versatility and become 1 in 4 Black men to take home the Oscar in history. Seriously, the Wayans Family should get Lifetime Achievement Awards ( yes give them their flower) for all the amazing talent, social and cultural insight they've brought to television.
This is great! Gotta love classic sketches. Everything now is so lame and stupid--I don't mind stupid, but substance is key which is what In Living Color was all about! Miss those days...

@GBProductions84 SNL was and is inconsistent. The launching of careers has nothing to do with the wack ass content of the show. Just ask Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Dude they’re having SO MUCH FUN acting white lmao I gotta start every morning with a new Eddie Murphy interview it’s literally the only good news I’ve heard in 10yrs

Thank you
@@libertubey2199 no they didn't I looked it up.
I honestly never knew that until today.

The humour was very clever. They dealt with adult topics that were relevant then and still relevant now.
"Welcome to Black Like you...NOT US!!"
Jesse Lee Peterson
Holy shit. The things they got away with in the '90s...
I love that Keenan Ivory Wayans could get away with this kind of stuff - when nobody else would dare try.
Fucking political correctness
yeah this was during the Early days of Fox when they were competing with the other 3 major networks
They didn’t “get away” with anything. It’s called freedom. And we are losing more of it every day.

The Black Smothers Brothers....🤣
Smothers Brothers did the music for all the Brothers Brothers skits.
This show got more ratings than SNL back then. Shockingly it got cancelled when it could've gone on forever.

Keenan leaving had hurt the show tremendously. The seasons without his fingerprints on them were noticeable. The shows weren't as funny.

Nothing against ILC, but SNL was, and is, way better.
The Hodge Twins owe them money.

Bravo! Bravo!
Lol this show was ahead of the curve. I loved it as a kid, and now I still love it and have a deeper understanding of these skits.
One of the best shows of all time.
The laugh at 4:24 is literally the funniest part of this skit 😂
It's so hard for them to keep it together. Sometimes I wonder if this was all shit that they'd heard from Hollywood execs and agents.
these dudes were such SELLOUTS thats wht made it so funny "im not going to stand for this doo hicky peety cheese" "can we get away wt that?!" classic
whats even funnier - is that these guys were modeled after real Toms, who seem fanatical in their love for the whyte man.

Ahead of its time!
Mr. Lincoln, what were you thinkin'?
Thanks to this video, I now chuckle every time I see videos of "Hootnanny" and "The Smothers Brothers".
Good Bless Keenan Ivory Wayans. The original reformer of black culture. Back then nobody else would dare try to criticize black culture.
These guys were Uncle Ruckus 14 years before that character was created.
They remind me of jesse lee peterson, lol. You know the black guy who thanked God for slavery.
Man I used to love "in Living Color" and this wouldn't fly at all in 2020 lol
It would actually
