    Trying to get decent pictures for selling goats is always such a pain. It seems like any time I get a great pic of the goat, there's something in the background that makes the pic look junky. Either that, or I get a bunch of pics of nothing but nostrils.😂

      Yes! We had a daughter out of her that unfortunately passed the summer before last. She was so sweet just like her mama. If that broken black is a doe we might keep her to replace mama.

      @SageandStoneHomestead  6 месяцев назад +3

      Replace mama in the breeding lineup, fluffles will retire soon but I'll give her another few chances to make sure she is done. We don't breed year round so she might have just had a fluke this last time.

    Ooo. My mom did that in mini rex. I think they used the harlequin to breed flashy tricolored soft dinner bunnies. They also got into "vienna" markings and eventually solid reds before someone sold them a very expensive snuffles infected show quality bunny and ended it all.

  • @tammykaltreider
    @tammykaltreider 6 месяцев назад +3

    I have an honest question…would you as a rabbit breeder, consider putting one of the “runts” with the really small litter in hopes of it getting more milk? Oh…and if I lived closer I’d scoop Violet up in a heartbeat! I’ve loved her since she was born 🤍

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  6 месяцев назад +3

      We have tried that and they actually do better in a larger litter because those two bunnies will get bigger at a much faster rate than the runt can catch up. Bunnies grow so fast that he would quickly get even more behind in comparison. Larger litters have to spread out the calories more evenly and grow slower than small litters. The runts can be fed separately though and put on mom by themselves to catch up

    • @SageandStoneHomestead

      I still do! I have a few left still from when I didn't disbud them in the beginning.

  • @ClayWinter1
    @ClayWinter1 6 месяцев назад +1

    This kind of sounds a bit of an odd question, and I may have missed it if you’ve explained it before. But could you explain or talk about your fencing set up, and why you have certain goats in certain groups? I noticed your boys in different groups, so I was just curious about that. Can’t wait to see some kids out of Nefarious. He is gorgeous for being so young. Stay awesome. ❤

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  6 месяцев назад +1

      I have small bucks and Wethers in the pen next to the does because a larger more mature buck is more likely to test the fence with does right there. After that I put them in groups based on size and aggression. I don't want odious and his horns having the chance to hurt my main bucks so he is never with Havoc or Nefarious if I can help it.

    My sister gave me 2 mini lionhead bunnies. She couldn't keep them at her apartment and told me they were both girls and she got them grom a fair that happens only for like a month in the summer. So I kept them as inside bunnies. My kids loved them. They were so cute and friendly. They would even give kisses. So I went in my down stairs basement to do a load of laundry and the bunnies were kept down there. Our basement was partially finished. So I saw the white bunny had alot of her chest hair missing and it was in a corner of the cage. I didn't pay much attention to it at that time I was super busy and forgot about it until doing another load of laundry a few days later I noticed something dead on the basement floor. I screamed I thought we had mice and I know once you have one then you have a problem...lol I worked for Critter control for 2 years and I would manage the office and send the guys out to trap animals and we delt with baiting mice. So when I saw this little pink dead animal I grabbed a rag and picked it up and noticed it's longer back legs and I then realized it was a baby bunny. My husband came down stairs after my scream and I said we had mice and handed the rag over and told him to look at it. He said holy crap how can this be ? We have female bunnies. Then my husband went online to see how to tell the sex of our bunnies. And yes we had a boy and a girl bunny. Then we looked inside the cage and found 2 live baby's and we loved it. We handled them since we found them. We also learned they opened there eyes at 10 days old. My kids would play with them when they were older and I have some great pictures. I would separate the males and females but my kids thought it be funny to put them together so we have more babies and at one time we had like 10 babies and we sold them on facebook for 10 bucks. It was easy they would sell very quick but once my kids didn't want to help me feed them or help with cleaning the cages with me I finally sold all of them. I had 2 part time jobs and then soccer and dance practice I just didn't have the time to tend to them and it was sad to see them go.

    I watched some of your rabbit videos some months ago and I have been giving it some serious thought.
    Busy preparing a Flemish giant enclosure with a "hobbit house" set of tunnels and vegetation for a pet for our sheepdog. It is turning out to be a pretty big project, so it will take a few more months to complete / settle all the natural rabbit-friendly vegetation.
    But I have been contemplating getting a handful of Californian Whites as meat rabbits. Not so much for our own family. There is a great deal of poverty in the surrounding areas and I would like to donate meat to families with children on a regular basis.
    A huge concern for me is that you cannot ship Hopper Poppers to my area. The company does not offer the option because of the shipping costs. I thought about having some custom welding done, but not sure about the dimensions that will ensure an efficient result and not lead to any unnecessary suffering. Would really appreciate any thoughts you may have in this regard 🤞🏻

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  6 месяцев назад +2

      I've gotten pretty good at that young age but I'm still wrong about 15% of the time until they are older, By 8 weeks I can do it but the Californians we deal with most often are bigger than a Silver Fox at that age too (not by much) so that might make it easier.
