Hey, I'm trying to remember this one anthro metroidvania game I saw on your channel a while ago. I remember it didn't have the most fluid animation, but it had several characters you could be oh, and one of them was a rhino. It might be featured in this video, but I swear I commented on it and I'm not finding my comment in this video. Also, thanks for bringing SuperEpic: The Entertainment Wars to my attention. I bought that game a while ago, and I'm having a lot of fun playing it. I even made my own review of the game.
Already got the money saved in my Steam wallet to get both Will of the Wisps and Silksong (+ OST, of course). I wasn’t much of a fan of the first Ori, but since hearing that the sequel is going for a more open level design with emphasis on player-driven discovery, it sounds like it’s going to be a big improvement over the original game. Also, I think it’s really important to mention that Death’s Gambit is getting a huge - *huge* - free expansion sometime later this year (I think), and among the mountain of new content, one of the changes they’re making is a partial restructure to the game’s world design to make it more metroidvania-like. This goes hand-in-hand with the introduction of new “special powers”, aka ability upgrades. No clue how many will be added, but so far they’ve shown off a double-jump (which looks distinctly familiar to another metroidvania’s double-jump) and some sort of downstrike attack that can open special floor tiles marked with some kind of symbol. The developers have said that this is supposed to make up for the game’s... disappointing / regrettable launch? (I personally don’t know what they’re talking about; I thought Death’s Gambit was fantastic.) But either way, you should go check out their Twitter and see all the teasers they’ve posted, because it’s easily one of the most impressive lists of additions for any one single game update I’ve ever seen. Again: _not_ paid DLC, it is labeled as a straight add-on to the game.
Nice, thanks for letting me know. I initially dismissed Death's Gambit as too gory since I tend to avoid such games but this sounds promising. Haven't seen the videos yet but I think I might know which popular metroidvania you're talking about, lol. xD I think Silksong and Ori 2 will be the highlights of 2020 for me too, together with Spiritfarer and Roki, even though they aren't metroidvanias.
This is really great, one thing that i would like to request, please do not cover all of the game video with title and release date panels, please put this information somewhere discreet like in a corner. Its frustrating wanting to see the game and you miss like 10 seconds for each title.

@@ClemmyGames Dats indeed a high bar, but I'm totally cereal. Even tho Grime is giga punishing esp. if u go for secret hunting, it is *extremely* fair. The game also has a demo, you can't go wrong if you are somewhat short on money and dont own it already of course :D
Ori & The Will of the Wisps on Steam states Windows 10 as the minimum requirement but one of the devs (thomasmahler) stated that the game will support Windows 7 just fine. It's funny to see these Windows 10 games still only using DirectX 11.
Great video, a lot of potential good indies. Even if I'm only interested by Mysts of Noyah and a final release of Hades (because Bastion ❤) on ps4. Savior, I don't know I find it amazing but I just don't like the futuristic elements. Flynn : Son of Crimson, could make it right but I don't know about the gameplay yet. I will also keep an eye on Streets of Rage 4 and Samuraï Jack maybe I can be surprised in a good way. However, I'm also wondering what are Devolver's plans for this year (please keep The Messenger's licence on your side 🙏🏽), I haven't heard a lot news from them... Keep going and I can't wait to discover other amazing news indies. 😏
If not all but most of these were already in my wishlist XD.. but there is 1 that caught me off guard. Rubi... and man am i hyped for that!... i just love metroidvanias especially if they're pixel art but many art style ex. Hollow knight comic like really fit(only if gameplay is top notch) Ps. if i didn't see flynn on this video id question if it were you clemmy lol
Faeland looks amazing! and yet I can't find it on steam or any store to wishlist it..... please keep covering it so I wont forget it when it comes out....
Im guessing Savior will have the player switch between platforming and combat modes. Likely there will be a dedicated button, or perhaps 2 (trigger buttons together). That's the only way I can think of to have that kind of depth.
This list makes life not seem so bleak. 😝 I recently had to make the choice between Hollow Knight and Sundered... I decided on Sundered because it is a lot rarer to find on physical copy... I hope I made the right decision (although I may just order Hollow anyways 😀)
There was a mecha vania game that i saw...I saw it on steam, but it wasnt even on the store yet....cant remember the game, it had a waifu in mech armor armor
I promise its not so bad, that game is aspiring to be a clone if castlevania symphony of the night (and im really not complaining, pumped actually) which has an extremely similar tracer effect and even since i was tiny it never made it difficult to follow the player character. I agree its a little busy in lodoss though, it sticks around a little too long and a little too far behind.
I love Metroidvania games. I want to play pure metroidvania. I want to play a game that takes items and moves on the map. I don't want to play dark souls that kill me immediately even if I strengthen myself, but I'm tired of all dark souls. Let me refer to this video. Google Translate
I've said for decades, given the choice, I'd rather have a superbly animated stick figure in a game than photo real graphics with jerky, robotic animation. In other words: animation is everything to me. So you can imagine how *Savior* made me cream my jeans. My jaw is still on the floor 😃
Best Indie Games - ClemmyGames Yes, the character look like Isaac, but the music has the same vibe, especially right before the octopus boss spawn in that trailer.
@@andrebaptista8284 Any recommendations? It's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff and I get burned out from all the mediocre ones and give up on sifting through them.
@@kekeke8988 I dont think I can reccomend any that you probably dont already know about but: Hollow Knight, Steamworld Dig 2, The Messenger (more of a platformer), Dead Cells (more of a rouge-like), Yokus Island Express, Axiom Verge, Shantae and the Pirates Curse, Chasm, The Mummy Demastered (trust me). Then lesser ones that are still good: Deaths Gambit, Blasphemous, Owlboy, Strider, Iconaclasts. If you havent yet there are retro classics: Super Metroid, and Symphony of the Night, I also think the 3 GBA Castlevanias and DS Castlevanias are the best in the genre ESPECIALLY Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, also Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion on GBA. I understand most people have played these, and then it is really slim pickings after that and settling for average is kind of what we have to do for this Genre, make sure you check out the older GBA games as they are awesome!
Best Indie Games - ClemmyGames God, I hope so. Record of Lodoss War is my favorite anime series and Metroid is my favorite video game series. The two of them combined would be a dream come true for me

Some more feedback after the Steam Festival of Demos:
Tartapolis is a cyber-noir adventure game with platforming (and options ot unlock areas and secrets with skills/items/guns- so I guess that fits the Metroidvania criteria?). Gunplay's pretty basic(putting a laser sight on your pistol helps), and there's some RPG elements to it. Fun to play, but it's very much an item-driven point and click adventure with RPG elements for the most part. Grime visuals are spectacular and grotesque. It`s something diferent.
Thanx for pointing it to me. First time see that and from now on its on my radar
@@milosmevzelj5205 Sweet! Yeha I'm pretty impressed by the look as well, especially that weird head boss that explodes into another form
Just came to make sure Silksong was on the top. It's my most anticipated game since Smash Ultimate, and i desperately wish to play it
:D You and me both my friend
Lol that's why I watched too
@@theurbanloner8879 So hyped
Dark Light feels like the abandoned Darkout game.
Ori and the will of the wisp and Silksong are two must buys for me. The other I will see.
Those are expected to be awesome!
Thanks Clemmy...🖤❤️️🖤
Grime quickly became the best metroidvania i played recently, its so, so good. not terribly much content, but it is wat it is :3
Best??? High bar
@@ClemmyGames Dats indeed a high bar, but I'm totally cereal. Even tho Grime is giga punishing esp. if u go for secret hunting, it is *extremely* fair. Like in terms of coyote jumps or i-frames for example and more. Im sure you know what i mean once you play it.
I suppose!
Love your vids
Thank you
Great video, a lot of potential good indies.
Yeah that Samurai Jack game looks GOOD!
Record of Lodoss War looks alright, Touhou Luna Nights was really good so got another game to play alongside Ori and the Will of the Wisps now :)
Yep, double metroidvania this week!
If not all but most of these were already in my wishlist XD.. but there is 1 that caught me off guard. Rubi... and man am i hyped for that!... i just love metroidvanias especially if they're pixel art but many art style ex. Hollow knight comic like really fit(only if gameplay is top notch)
Ps. if i didn't see flynn on this video id question if it were you clemmy lol
Hey Melvin! Yeah you would know haha. Yeah Rubi's new-ish and looks great as well!
Castle in the Darkness looks like it's going to be amazing
Agreed
Riding a Dragon? Well count me in
also gnawing me fingertips off, waiting for Silksong
Hell yeah Savior looks fantastic! Same for Silksong!
Faeland looks amazing! and yet I can't find it on steam or any store to wishlist it..... please keep covering it so I wont forget it when it comes out....
Will do! Just stay tuned and I'll let you know when it's out!
That record of lodoss war game looks incredible but very busy
Little bit overwhelming
Hi, Best Indie Games! When are you planning to make the next video on this subject (Indie metroidvanias)? I have one to pitch :)
Just drop me an email (via the "About" page)
Im guessing Savior will have the player switch between platforming and combat modes. Likely there will be a dedicated button, or perhaps 2 (trigger buttons together). That's the only way I can think of to have that kind of depth.
Not sure myself since the parkour stuff is integrated into the combat as well
Almost all these belong on the switch, thanks clemmy!!
Why not?
Record of Lodoss war have an amazing pixel art. Hope it will be a good game
Same!
WOW! "Faeland" looks the best by FAR!
Love the look of that
This list makes life not seem so bleak. 😝 I recently had to make the choice between Hollow Knight and Sundered... I decided on Sundered because it is a lot rarer to find on physical copy... I hope I made the right decision (although I may just order Hollow anyways 😀)
:D Glad it brought you some joy. Ehh I would have picked HK over sundered but both are great games!
You bought that ,it was free sometime ago on epic games ,should've bought hollow knight .
thanks for the recommendations
You are welcome!
😳😳😳 so....many..... awesome looking titles....
EXACTLY
faeland looks sick
Metroidvanias are slowly becoming my favorite gaming genre in modern times
It's mine!
@@ClemmyGames Man they all look so good especially the castlevania inspired one and Grime
@@niclasneziru1854 Hell yeah!
A list of GREATNESS!
YEAH
Never believed an Israeli game will make it that far to be featured on something like this video but...Damn! Grime looks amazing!
Oh cool! Didn't know that.
"Record of Lodoss War-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth-" The longest name for game ever seen. :-)
Heh
There was a mecha vania game that i saw...I saw it on steam, but it wasnt even on the store yet....cant remember the game, it had a waifu in mech armor armor
It's out!
Wonder why all these aren't slated for a switch launch from get go i want them all
Likely cost and all that but won't be surprised if they eventually get there
Lodoss looks great but that main character ghosting is dreadful, I can't understand where the character model is, makes the screen too busy.
Hmm yeah it can get busy
I promise its not so bad, that game is aspiring to be a clone if castlevania symphony of the night (and im really not complaining, pumped actually) which has an extremely similar tracer effect and even since i was tiny it never made it difficult to follow the player character. I agree its a little busy in lodoss though, it sticks around a little too long and a little too far behind.
Hehe I really like when you say "eldritch horror". I like Lovecraft and I'd like to play lore finder.
Like the way I say it?
@@ClemmyGames I 'm really sorry. It wasn't a mock at all. I like the fact that you talk about Lovecraft. :-) You are great.
@@filippopmassaro1944 No offence taken. Yeah cosmic horror in games can be pretty neat!
I need Silksong so badly! I really hope it makes 2020.
Same! But no need to rush it out!
Agreed it's better not to rush things more like it's better to delay things to make it more special
@@aaronatkinson3050 Yup!
LOVE Metroidvania games, for sure!
Then you are in the right place!
And 9 years of shadows?
Its looks pretty cool
Oh snap that looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I love Metroidvania games.
I want to play pure metroidvania.
I want to play a game that takes items and moves on the map.
I don't want to play dark souls that kill me immediately even if I strengthen myself, but I'm tired of all dark souls.
Let me refer to this video.
Google Translate
Thanks!
A lot of great stuff, but I also wish they'd make Rabi Ribi 2 already
Yeah! I wonder what they are doing...
I've said for decades, given the choice, I'd rather have a superbly animated stick figure in a game than photo real graphics with jerky, robotic animation.
In other words: animation is everything to me. So you can imagine how *Savior* made me cream my jeans. My jaw is still on the floor 😃
Sweet. Indeed savior does look awesome but I wonder how that will translate into the entire game
@@ClemmyGames I know. Given my taste/preference it's almost too good to be true.
Rubi is symbolic for beautiful on the outside but ugly on the inside, like so many people we have heard.
Hmm?
Nice list.
Thank you! What did you like?
GAH i just wish more of these titles were coming to the switch
I think most of them might, these were based on information available at the time
Many good titles ... But I think ( wonder labyrinth ) the best
LOVE the look of that
Faeland had something that reminded me of Golden Sun.
YEAH now that you mentioned it! The main character maybe?
Best Indie Games - ClemmyGames Yes, the character look like Isaac, but the music has the same vibe, especially right before the octopus boss spawn in that trailer.
@@icarusael Man that was a great series
Best Indie Games - ClemmyGames oh yes, I still wonder if they’ll ever make another one, the ending said so.
@@icarusael Hmmmm not holding out hope myself
That Record of Lodoss War is what all 2d platformers should look like. I feel like 99% of them look like some college kid's test game.
Looks so good right?
30:12 this move reminds me of when you do the same thing in ori
also some dialog in this comment
*UH, EH, SALAD*
ok
Wow lodoss war? awesome
Yeah! Out next week as well
Record of Lodoss War? Holy crap... haven't heard that name in a looong time...
Yeah it's been awhile
It's a pity Flynn: Son of Crismon is not planned for the Switch! :(
Not atm but hope for a port!
I remember when Metroidvanias were few and far between.
Yeah! We certainly have a bounty now!
I feel "good" ones are still few and far between. Most of these games look average at best. :S
@@andrebaptista8284
Any recommendations? It's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff and I get burned out from all the mediocre ones and give up on sifting through them.
@@kekeke8988 I dont think I can reccomend any that you probably dont already know about but:
Hollow Knight, Steamworld Dig 2, The Messenger (more of a platformer), Dead Cells (more of a rouge-like), Yokus Island Express, Axiom Verge, Shantae and the Pirates Curse, Chasm, The Mummy Demastered (trust me).
Then lesser ones that are still good:
Deaths Gambit, Blasphemous, Owlboy, Strider, Iconaclasts.
If you havent yet there are retro classics:
Super Metroid, and Symphony of the Night, I also think the 3 GBA Castlevanias and DS Castlevanias are the best in the genre ESPECIALLY Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, also Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion on GBA.
I understand most people have played these, and then it is really slim pickings after that and settling for average is kind of what we have to do for this Genre, make sure you check out the older GBA games as they are awesome!
Deedlit needs to be released on PS4 or switch. ASAP
Probably after the early access is done on steam
Best Indie Games - ClemmyGames God, I hope so. Record of Lodoss War is my favorite anime series and Metroid is my favorite video game series. The two of them combined would be a dream come true for me
@@tomderry7295 Fingers crossed for you then!
Castle in the Darkness 2 omfg
YES GET HYPED
I wonder, is there any chance that some of these games (like the first five games on the list, as well as the second to last game “Flynn”) release on the switch?
Yeah most indies eventually get ported to Switch anyways so count on that!
