Volgin is probably the cruelest, most sadistic individual in all of the franchise. But, the things he does ultimately have surprisingly little impact on the rest of the world, and don't really ripple out into the rest of the series like the actions of the other characters on this list. He just makes everyone around him miserable. He also doesn't seem to have a god complex like BB, Skull Face, or Zero. He's just kind of a paranoid asshole who wants power and money. Definitely deserves an honorable mention, but doesn't belong in the top 3

Granted, you could argue that his plans caused the Boss to die, setting up all of the entire events to come. Because it was his random decision to launch the nuke which changed the infiltration plan [which was to infiltrate Volgin anyways] into "scapegoat and kill the Boss" plan.

Big Boss was once presented as evil, there is no doubt about that. But Kojima clearly retconned him into a more morally gray character. Once you consider that he was in a shadow battle with the true villains of the story (The Patriots), a lot of his actions make sense. Also, I've research MGS multiple times but I can't find one source about BB killing parents and stealing their children. Solidus did that no doubt, but I don't recall BB ever doing that even once or any character claiming that he did either.

...Did... Did you watch my video...? I literally quote BB saying that's what he does. Also where does Kojima say he retconned BB to be less evil? He was def working up to BB being his full evil self in Peace Walker and then in MGSV TPP. Is there an article where Kojima says he retconned BB's character to be less evil? MGS3 was meant to humanize BB for sure, but don't get brainwashed into thinking he's a better person than he actually was lol

If you _only_ count results and not intentions/plans, I think you could make a compelling case Donald Anderson (AKA SIGINT) is the most destructive person in the series.
For starters, _he probably lead Cipher for longer than Zero._ He took over sometime during Big Boss' coma, most likely early on like 1975-1976, and unless he stepped down at some point, would've remained leader til his death in 2005, meaning he lead Cipher for ~30 years compared to Zero only having control for ten at the absolute most. _(note: this is not counting Skull Face as taking over, or the possibility the AIs took over before Shadow Moses)_
While Zero ordered the conceptualisation of the Patriot AIs, SIGINT was the one who actually implemented them, and is responsible for them going rogue in the end, especially with losing Dr Strangelove, who could've actually given the AIs positive human traits.
He was also a core force behind the original prototype of Metal Gear REX, which would cause absolute havoc to the stability of the world. Every Metal Gear is scary, but REX was the worst in terms of global implications, its existence completely broke the balance of nuclear power.
Anderson seems to be the most least radical member of The Patriots, so the idea that he ended up bearing responsibility for their worst actions is an interesting thought.

The thing about Big Boss is despite it not being the original intention of MG1 the Big Boss of the end of the series never stole the lives of anyone, he only took in soldiers without a nation to fight for and kids with no home to call there own. His outer heaven was built for people as lost as he was once he killed the Boss and found out the truth. In the end though Big Boss realised that despite thinking that he was helping these people by giving them a cause to fight for and continuing the bosses legacy, he figured out the best thing he and they all could have done was move on and “let the world be”

    • @luffiewebster
      @luffiewebster  7 месяцев назад

Okay, but he literally orphaned the kids he took in himself haha Can we really say he was taking in kids with no home to call their own when *he* destroyed their home to begin with? That seems silly to me. And talk is cheap. BB can say whatever he wants at the end of MGS4, but unless he *does* something to actually show he's turned over a new leaf then his words are just words. And he knew about FOXDIE too so if he really wanted to make a difference in the world he would have ended Zero off screen and then dedicated his remaining time to making the world a better place. You don't need recognition to be a good person, but BB threw away his second chance at actually being a better person so he could *say* he was a better person. That doesn't sound like a good person to me. And his speech at the end of MGS4 also doesn't erase all the evil he's done in his past. You can forgive BB if you want, but I'll never forget all the orphans wandering around his base in MG2 where BB admits to ending their parents on purpose so he can kidnap and groom them into being soldiers for his army

@@luffiewebster that’s the thing the child soldiers thing has been directly retconned because Kojima wanted to make him not a villain anymore. And at the end of MGS4 he wanted to end everything then and there including killing himself since he realised that him being alive created more problems even if he didn’t do it himself. He ended the misinterpretations of the Boss’ legacy and the war economy created to fight him. I mean factually speaking Big Boss does more to stop the patriots than Solid Snake by a mile

      2) He was actually in a coma after Zanzibarland, only he was freed [at an unknown date] by EVA and Ocelot. The switch with Solidus' body was for the "trick Liquid Ocelot/the Patriots by having the same genetic code for unlocking the secret password" plan.

Chosing big boss over volgin is wild, big boss did do some pretty bad things but in comparison to volgin big boss is a Saint, Volgin launched a nuke on his own country to try and Stoke up tensions between the US and Russia to start a war which he fully intends to happen so he can establish global Russian dominance, he also implies to ocelot that he's willing to sacrifice as many of his own country men just so he can get his war. He kills Granin cause he only suspects he's the spy but when it's revealed he's not he's just like "oh well" and to say that even though Volgin fired a nuke it doesn't matter cause big boss might fire one is like saying Person A murdered 15 people but I think person B is worse because who's to say he wouldn't murder 15 people

I personally dont think big boss was evil. I think his whole story is a tragic telling of a man who blindly follows paths that are not his own. He starts as a soldier following orders for the US government, and then becomes obsessed with completing the bosses vision for the rest of his life while also being manipulated and used as propaganda by Zero. Even in MGS V he is going through with plans that were never really his own. He believed himself a free man, but up until the end of MGS 4 he was basically at best a man trying to achieve the dreams of someone else or at worst a puppet for others.
There is also some obvious retconning with big boss, I seriously doubt that Kojima had intended for the game to be a popular as it ended up and im sure originally he was designed to just be a straight up bad guy, but at the same time kojima did a great job at making him seem better by having him in a constant war with the patriots. Also when you break down the people who end up following Big Boss you can see that while alot of their actions are reprehensible their goals were noble in the end (ocelot, eva, even grey fox).

He’s done a lot of evil stuff, especially to Venom, but he’s also straight up saved the world multiple times, and not just because he was ordered to do so. He’s also gotten fucked over by basically everyone that he’s ever loved or cared about. Meanwhile Volgin is a literal sadist who NUKES HIS OWN DUDES with a smile on his face. Okay so this video is a bit extreme in terms of describing Big Boss's character. At no point he ever killed parents to use their children in wars. Big Boss's went out of his way to save children from the original outer heaven after NATO bombed them. He went their to the ruins of outer heaven by himself not sending anybody to do that. Didn't played Peace Walker (waiting for Master Collection Vol.3 ) but I think the story has it that all the countries of the world somehow agreed to dispose of all of their nuclear weapons and Big Boss was the only one to have nukes at the end of Peace Walker. Thats because he wanted the world to take him seriously and at no point he ever had intention of using those nukes. Btw some people will say he said those terrible things to Solid Snake in MG2: Solid Snake about those children but if he was going to use those children why weren't there any drills going on during their time as prisoners (which they weren't, they were refugees of war). Also The Phantom Pain incident, Venom, Ocelot and Kaz were the only one to know about the Boss's plan. At the end of MGS V: Phantom Pain, Venom was given a cassette which exactly shows the events of the Mg: MSX and had every little detail that was going to happen in MSX , So that makes Venom already agreeing with the Boss's plan. He did embraced the title of Big Boss at the of mgs V.
The best thing about Kojima Games are that they follow the Golden Rule of story telling "Show, Don't Tell". Their was a message at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2 not just for Raiden but also for the player himself but I guess no one took that message seriously.

Huey is definitely up there. Whilst there's definitely a lot of twisted acts performed out of warped justifications of many characters. Huey was a special type of evil more commonplace to the average person. He was motivated by pure self interest, self indulgence and self gratification. Meanwhile spending his entire life interactions with *everyone* curating his image as a victim , naive and well meaning. Either by convincing himself through self deception or intentional malice. Nothing Huey did was ever without himself being the primary beneficiary, there was no greater reason or intention. A meek man whose only sincerity was his own malice and pretence of virtue. A gross character.

Skull face really got shafted with how MGSV handled cutscenes and storytelling, how can a guy be the cause of mass genocides and terrible torture but his worst on-screen deed is knocking a guy over (who is already pretty terrible).
Volgin for me is just THE most villainous of them all without a shadow of doubt, he has no goal that can be construed as fair or for the betterment of the world. With Big Boss, at least he started out okay before the end of Peace Walker when he decides to build ZEKE and keep a nuke. I always forget the kids in MG2, but Chico's recruitment is also pretty bad when you think about it.
Zero is definitely terrible when considering all of what he caused, but it's hard to say if everything was his choice or if at some point the majority of the Patriots' decisions were all taken care of by the AI, since Zero at the end of MGS4 is basically a vegetable. He definitely deserves a ton of credit though, the vast majority of the issues with the Patriots are rooted in it's development and early projects all headed by him.
Thinking about the other villains it's hard to find big contenders, Ocelot is so flip-floppy it's hard to tell if he's a villain or an ally in every game, but his goals are either for a good end with "bad" (a.k.a. attacking Snake and other people) means or to just mess with Snake. Liquid was only really in one game, and his goal was a soft echo of Big Boss' goals, with a bit of hatred for Snake thrown in there. Solidus wanted to take down the Patriots, which is good, but he was going to do so by hitting Manhattan, not to mention his past with child soldiers like Jack. Pretty evil, but not enough to stand out compared to the likes of Volgin or Big Boss. Hot Coldman was just crazy, believing a hunch was the truth, and the risk of causing nuclear warfare was fine when he could prove his theory right and make Peace Walker the "perfect deterrent."
Finally Huey, not really a villain but he stood out to many in MGSV over Skull Face as one of the worst ratting the original Mother Base out and later sabotaging the new base several times to later pin the blame all on Venom, not to mention killing his wife because she didn't want him to use their son as a guinea pig in his robot war machines. Top it off with the supposed death-suicide attempt he did with his later daughter Emma, and you've got a pretty despicable guy. Not quite the big villain evil, but someone you'd like to punch if you could.

definitely agree with zero being number one, definitely personifies the "ends justify the means" type of control freak technocrats that are often the cause of so much suffering and death in real life.
if you were including characters who are the most evil on a personal level, not based on who negatively impacted the most people, id argue ocelot belongs up there just for the fact its implied he not only tortured Meryl but also sexually assaulted her in MGS1. He's absolutely a true sadist, something they kind of downplayed in the second and third games but its a big part of his character. same deal for volgin, he might not have hurt that many people but its made clear that he has no empathy or remorse for his actions and actively enjoys inflicting misery on others
also hate to be the one to inform you that "evilest" is not a real word.

I like to think BB's final dialogue in Metal Gear 2 is mainly said out of spite towards the Patriots for sending his own son to end him, much like the US government did to him with The Boss.
BB had to be the enemy of the world at that time. He accepted his role and rolled with it for the benefit of mankind.
That's just like, my opinion tho.

Skull Face as a child was working on his family’s factory production of rapeseed oil and since they were also supporting the war with smuggling and other stuff their fabric got attacked and it resulted on him barely surviving all burnt and disfigured.
