As an old timer and motorcyclist from about 1961, this was my first introduction to Elspeth Beard, needless to say I'm totally impressed. In my old age I haven't ridden for about 15 years, but have enjoyed following ItchyBoots and a few others as they roam the world on motorbikes. I can't help wondering if Elspeth and Noraly of ItchyBoots have ever met or communicated, two kindred spirits indeed...Thanks for posting.
I loved the book and Elspeth deserves so much respect, a legend of the worldwide motorcycling community. And what a great interviewer! So very considerate in allowing concise answers to his intelligent questions. Thank you.
We have to think about it: She is a young lady, she communicates by letter without thinking about RUclips shows, she has no sponsors, she reads about her adventures on tape, in black and white photographs, she just travels the world, she has to travel, she has to deal with the trams she goes through. Deserves praise beyond respect..👏👏👏👍
in 1986 i went around, criss crossed Australia ONLY, on a kwack 650. I have huge respect for what Elspeth Beard took on and never tire of hearing of this undertaking. Sadly missed Elspeth's presentation at Brooklands because of the start of the covid nonsense. Lesson learnt : never listen/believe 'authority', be free.
Wow ! glad I found this , Read Elspeth book several years ago but its the first time I have seen her talking. She is clearly a beautiful articulate lady and your questions I am sure the best response from her. Ted Simon is considered to be the father of adventure touring so Elspeth must be the female version of him surely ! Its taken her years to come out and tell us her story but I am glad she has because she is now being given the recognition she rightly deserves.
Extremely inspiring interview. Most people including myself do not face challenging tasks because of fear of failure. This British lady is the epitome of courage and determination. 🙏
Elspeth’s book is a fascinating read, as obviously it goes into far more detail around her trip and the difficulties she faced along with how much she gained from making her journey.
I agree the book is a fascinating read and one aspect the has stuck with me is that modern adventure motorcycles are to reliant on technology, and need specialist maintenance to overcome the wear and tear that they suffer on this type of touring.
@@andrewshields5322from the very beginning every generation of motorcycles has needed more from the mechanics. She did well to take a bike that was already 8 years old.
Riders like Elspeth and Ted Simon used ordinary road bikes. No high clearance, big tank, long forks, special tyres, upswept exhaust, just regular machines. A very impressive woman.
I heard her speak at the ABR Festival 2024 and she was just amazing. I got a signed copy of her book and it’s now one of my treasured possessions. I am starting my round the world trip in 2026 completely inspired by her story although I’ll be doing it in 4 parts. She’s an inspiration.
I love her determination and attitude, so missing nowadays, read her book and loved every word of it. A true adventurer and so modest in her outlook. One of my heroes.
Great respect for Elspeth and what she did, proved to herself and to so many female and male of that huge motorfamily, that it was possible than to travell all over the world and to get one's goals as it is now. 🎉I know the bike (rode the 75/5 for several years all over Europe, which is a huge difference with riding hundreds of miles through deserts, mountain goattracks), but those engines were able to do it, and it brought you back home... so I guess you felt like a queen on your bike, in spite of all the greater and smaller problems. A bike and woman to be proud off!
One of the greats, up there with Ian Coats, Ted Simon etc etc, Travelling the world when it was just you and the Bike, a tougher better experience….. There are so many Travel influencers now, it’s not even interesting….. I like it old school
Great interview and thank you for allowing Elspeth to talk which is so refreshing. These days so many interviewers not only interrupt but start talking about themselves. Nice one 👍
My Aunt Ginny worked on a cattle station in Alice Springs as a house keeper, she went alone it took 3 months to get their on a sailing ship from England in1904, both made from the right stuff women of substance.
Bashing up your vehicles it is very painful and sorrowful to digest because it is an emotion and feeling that you totally stays side by side with the voyage or journey with your vehicle 🌹❤️
Just watched the vid of elspeth beard ,it was fantastic I had read the book sometime ago just great to see her enthusiasm for it ,then It was a real challenge no telephone no satnav it was probably thought impossible but she did it
Mam I do own Royal Enfield Classic 350 for which I am proud of not because of race but for its pride and honour of carrying your character and travelling along with your motorcycle 🌹❤️
Mam pottering and travelling to different countries and adopting the cultures it’s a tussle and a bit of a challenges that you met and came across but nowadays the whole scenario is different 🌹❤️
Can listen to this woman all day, such an inspiration, better than all the other female wanna be travellers with their clickbait titles and content just for likes and subscribe…. Just saying like…
Seriously hats off for this kinda a vintage riders Government should give stipend or pay tax and wages or remuneration for this kinda rider hats off mam 🌹❤️🙏🙏🙏
Why riding culture doesn’t get pay off I really don’t know in foreign countries or in overseas it is considered as a sports I mean their are various types and category of events that gets endorsed and managed by the management which run by separate institutions or organisations which we take it sportingly and with positive approach and we move forward and participate into that events inorder to reenergise and exchange thoughts and perceptions and feelings of one another and mould it into riding 🌹❤️

I read a report in MOTORRAD at the time. I think it was in Turkey. But nothing more came after that. Until someone dug it up again a few years ago.
