Sri. Ganapati Muni composed Uma Sahasram starting from Kartika Krishna Sashti, 26/11/1907 (exactly today as per Hindu Calender) and completed it on Margasira Suddha Ekadasi (15/12/1907).So, we intend to upload each stabaka as a single video, a total of 40 canto's will be uploaded by Margasira Suddha Ekadasi of 2023.

Uma Sahasram is the magnum opus of Sri.Ganapathi Muni. He decided to compose a thousand verses in praise of the vedic goddess UMA, to express his gratitude for her grace in giving him ‘Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi’ as GURU. This magnanimous work was the essence of his penance and experiences. This work was composed in ‘Mango Cave’ (Chyuta Guha) on top of Holy Arunachala Hill.
Sri. Ganapathi Muni has taken a vow to complete the thousand verses in 20 days. The structure of the stora/Hymn is that the 1000 verses are divided into 10 Satakams having 100 verses each and each satakam has 4 Stabakams having 25 verses in each. Thus, there are 40 Stabakas or Cantos in Uma Sahasram. Sri. Ganapathi Muni has used 29 different Vedic metres/Chanddhas/Chandas, praising Goddess Uma in her various forms & names is praised & worshipped as ‘Divine Mother’.
After starting the composition on 26.11.1907 (stava deeksha) a severe whitlow on the writing finger of his right hand has caused serious obstruction to the work. Sri.Ganapathi Muni could not write anymore, and he prayed mother and was wondering the reason for this obstacle. By the grace of Divine Mother the finger healed quickly and writing was resumed but by the morning of the last day which is 15.12.1907, still 200 verses are to be composed which is 8 Stabakas or Cantos in different vedic metres. He appointed 5 scribes and started dictating one verse from one stabaka in a different vedic chandhass to one scribe, and another verse in a different vedic chandhass to another scribe and so on… i.e., 5 stabakas at a time to 5 scribes. While he was feverishly dictating the verses, Sri. Bhagavan sat behind Sri. Ganapathi Muni in silence. After completing all the 200 verses by the midnight, Sri. Bhagavan has asked Nayana, ‘Have you written down all that was said?’ and Nayana bowed to Bhagavan and said ‘Yes, I have dictated all that was said by your grace’.
The above incident shows the importance of this stotra in the life’s of Sri. Bhagavan and Sri. Ganapati Muni (Nayana). Why this work has been referred to as his life-long work is because he revised this Uma Sahshram 7 times by addition/modification of verses with his spiritual experiences in Tapas. He was doing 8th revision before he left the mortal frame.
Uma Sahasram is full of profound secrets of Vedas. Sri.Ganapathi Muni has revealed the essence of vedas, Upanishads, tantra, yoga in a clear manner helping every aspirant. Each verse is a mantra that reverberates the infinite power of Divine Mother. The ‘Divine Mother’ in her true form is purely worshipped with these verses. Several devotees of Sri. Bhagavan and Sri. Ganapati Muni (Nayana) had experiences of Divine Mother asking them to sing a particular verse from the Stotra.
