Wow thanks! This is part of my childhood.. I thought the stall was gone forever after the corner coffeeshop was taken over. Must pay a visit soon.
You brought back so many memories, I spent every morning there for two weeks eating breakfast the last time I visited.
I’m hoping to take my fiancé there for the wontons and duck and rice
wow my first time to hear about tau kwa pau i worked in singapore b4 but didnt get to eat that...i love singapore foods a lot specially all types of noodles recipe...im glad i saw your vlog so i immediately subscribe...thanx for sharing your food vlog i loved it so much...hope to see more new recipes..
Hello Gregory from England. Just discover your video. Really enjoyable to watch as you describe the food and the history.
I have not heard of this dish before but i shall find a day and make my way there to try!
Look very good healthy foods fresh foods thank you for sharing your beautiful healthy foods. love this kind of foods thank you
Missed tau kwa pau. I know there used to be two stalls along east coast rd (katong). Don't know if they are still there.
Have not been for a while, but after Say Seng moved out of Hock Ann, a lady started selling the same dish, I think it was called Mary's something or other .... last i recall, she moved a few shops down to the left of Hock Ann, probably closed already
There used to be another good one many years ago which I thought was better, an uncle selling at Haig Road then he moved to a small coffee shop in Joo Chiat, opp the original Fei Fei ... sadly i think he retired and no one took over as I was hunting for him for some time
keep quality -> higher price with the risk of losing price sensitive consumer
lower quality -> keep price with the risk of losing quality sensitive consumer
it's hard to choose. but me personally prefer if they keep the quality. if it's good, i'd pay for the extra(to a point).
The original version in Hock Ann I remember was more of a gigantic TAUPOK slit open as you would the current rojak taupok. Dunno who made it or where they got it. And yes it was stuffed with duck and innards etc together with the current bits. He suddenly disappeared leaving the nasi padang stall next to him which also had long queues. Satay stall soon took over and then a curry puff stall.. next to it was the original laksa stall which somehow spread out eventually to have 2 shops claiming to be the original. It's all very hazy in my memory but I should be something like that
Called in there last month for a return visit - it was still as good as I remembered (mind you, it was only last November when I went there before!!) Was very acceptable with a side order of braised pork tongue.
Say Seng's braised duck also damn good. It's fatty and not dry sad like other "healthier" versions.
TKP still the best to eat. Unique and perhaps not found anywhere else in Singapore.
Can request for other stuffings also.
Would love to see more features on vanishing hawker dishes, the gems of the Singaporean foodscape.
Yes, this is indeed quite good. Don't eat it often enough despite living in the area. Of course the Rojak down there is world class (which you reviewed before). What's your take on the Wanton Mee upstairs? 😀
P.S. appreciate the historical info you throw in which differentiates this channel from so many others.
Don’t like it. Still prefer eng’s!
You can find it in Irvin’s cafe at Thomson Plaza
is it still there?
always so interesting and educational! thank you!
If I remember wasn't this commonly sold at chinese rojak stalls before it's all gone
My favourite dish when they were at joo chiat corner coffee shop. Must eat, every weekend then. 👍
I used to eat there when i was in Singapore. Missed it.
Greg, maybe it is free to listen at the archive. It may not be digitised yet and that's the reason for the cost? Contact them. Let us know how you go 🙂.
True, maybe it’s a different story if I call them! Will try
My grandma used to buy this for me. And after all these years, it tastes exactly the same. Amazing. Everyone has to try this
Never heard of it. But eager to try it 😁 Greetings from Surabaya, Indonesia.
Last ate such a food like 20 years ago.
No duck meat?
look yummy...
Not sure if it’s price chart or multiplication table
I miss eating this so much!
Most people will tell you how good the wanton mee upstairs is, but you need to try the wanton mee next to this tau kwa pau stall... the chili is to die for. Google ang moh wanton mee, (this is the original one not the other shop that goes by ang moh wantan noodle house, they changed their name after selling it off) it has a very long history and I've been eating it for more than 20 years now, though not as good as it was before, no other wanton mee chilli can come close to it. I wish people would stop raving about how good the one upstairs is and come down and try this.
Also try Gina's Vadai opposite this stall. Its the best in SG, imho.
I agree!
Hello Greg! Pls try to vlog next time Don Lechon (A Filipino Food ) .. at 511 Guillemard Road, #01-52, Grandlink Square, S399849. Opens daily from 5pm to 11pm.
Ok, will try one day. thanks for the recommendation!
Tiong Bahru market. There's one there.

@@mooka10 Oh ya .... now that u mention .... I have tried it but this one is better because of the chilli sauce
You should invest is better quality microphones that do not pick up the excessive surrounding noise. You should also place the camera further back. Because it looks weird when you hunch to to fit yourself and the food in the camera. Otherwise, I really enjoy your videos.
The reason why I hunch in closer is so that the mic picks up my voice better and I’m not shouting. I’ve tried all sorts of mics but experts tell me that I record in very noisy environments so can’t be helped. I bought a new lav mic last weekend. Hopefully it’s better!
Never eaten this before. Must go try it. Good that there is no pork and innards for me.
Where can i find tau kwa pau
Address is in the video description!
One of the last stall ; u heard that.....
Crazy. $60. Even the national archive unit wants to make money. N at $60 u r making people not able to reach out for a slice of our gastronomic history. What a shame. How many TKP can one buy with $60?
About 40pcs of TKP at present pricing.
Tell them to sell like itunes. $1 or whatever per copy
OMG!!! this is one of my all-time favourites!!! i totally agree with the quality dropping..... been eating it since i was a kid.... the version with the liver and the gizzards were very much different than what is offered now.... i actually don't remember the fishball bits when i was younger.... i actually feel that the compromise in ingredients have absolutely nothing to do with costs. i think it has all to do with convenience. Cost of duck or chicken offal is very reasonable. it is however time consuming to handle and cook..... the process has now been reduced to factory fishballs, eggs, crispy yam bits(?) etc, and the dark sauce. the dish is now mild and neutral, with no outstanding taste characteristics. nice and all, but hardly exciting. i eat it every chance i get, but i really miss the old taste.... i would sometimes order the duck and eat it together, but a portion of duck is $10+...... there really isn't anywhere else that sell this dish?
Good
0:47 the guy looks like najib and i was like wtf isn't he in malaysia for trial?
Yeah sharp eyez
The tau kway getting smaller n smaller!
I just eat yesterday 😀
Hello... Are they still at the same location ? Thank you
the deadly sin for food operators..... cheapen the food whilst increasing the price...... customers ain't stupid you know
not many customers so they have to compromise. No choice. Water, gas and electricity. How do you expect them to earn profit. You think the operators stupid also? Freaking rude
Poor person who got parking ticket at the beginning of your vlog. Guess his enjoyment of food there took too long. :)
We found Najib
greg must take care of ur health. shocked to see u looking like a plump dumpling now. take care!

Eat moderately at your age, dont always go for large portion with added stuffs, its super unhealthy. If this goes on, i doubt you be able to last for the next 5 years
