I was at the game. Well over 100 decibels registering on my watch. Midnight, over 64000 screaming fans and things just weren’t going Kstates way. BYUs defense was clutch. Most people underestimate BYUs stadium and atmosphere. Few places in Big 12 can compare.
I think teams massively underestimate how good BYU is in Provo when the sun goes down.
The stadium and atmosphere is indescribable. Absolutely deafening
You are correct, fortunately and unfortunately I was at the game. Great people, Stadium, view, and atmosphere. I didn't realize they had something like a 262-85 record there.
Weirdest 6 minutes of football I’ve ever seen to go down 4 TDs. Provo, the game atmosphere and their fans were great!
My first road game outside bowl games and I’m going to have PTSD! KSTATE needs to fix things and fix it fast!
BYU has been called a Vampire Team under the lights in Provo, 24-1. K-State is a better team than the game showed. Turnovers were the difference.
Congrats to the Cougars on that win. When the game started to not be entertaining from our meltdown at least your mascot made up for it.
Far and away the best mascot in college athletics.
Looking forward to a future matchup. Hopefully we’ll have our helmets in straight next time.
BYU fan here. Kstate had the running game going, but could not convert them into touchdowns. BYU defense came up big. But Kstate turnovers just killed them. It's hard to play in BYU. 60,000 crazed fans gets that stadium rocking. Avery's decisions were awful on some plays. He gave BYU the ball. Bottom line. BYU played really well and Kstate played bad, hence, BYU dominates. But Kstate is going to win a lot of games this year. They are much better than what was displayed tonight.
I think the crowd helped BYU. So many false start penalties for K-State caused by the noise. But lost complete control of themselves in those few minutes before and after the game. Hopefully this will focus us for the rest of the season.
BYU fan here. Love your youtube stuff.
Clearly if BYU and KSU played ten times this year, the outcomes.would be much different than this one game. This was a simple case of a snowball that got rolling and couldn't be stopped. However, don't be too hard on KSU for the false starts and illegal procedures that had such an effect on the game.
When that student section and crowd is.i to the game that stadium is very loud, and the teams.on the field simply cannot hear the counts. In 2021 I was there when a ranked ASU team with Daniels at QB got 8 false starts, 4 on one possession.
Honest to goodness true story: in the 80's BYU and AFA were both ranked top 5. Dee Dowis was the AFA qb. I was a student at the time. The crowd was so loud that Dowis complained to the refs, and the ref got on his mic and told the crowd to pipe doen or hewould call a penalty on the crowd. I do not remember if he was threatening delay of game or unsportsmanlike conduct.
Yes, it sounds absurd and ridiculous, but I was there. The crowd took out their keys and started shaking them to make nojse because they didn't know what else to do without getting a penalty.
BYU went on to win the game.
Good luck to the cats the rest of the season. I wish Utah had KSU on their schedule.
That run by Avery at the end of the game where he stepped out of bounds before the football got to the pylon was kinda a metaphor of the game..
Even if the TD stood a penalty was going to take it away (KState is hardly penalized like we were last night)..
Yet we stepped out of bounds and turned the ball over.. hardly ever have turnovers but we had lots last night.
@@dacokc I suppose the good thing is we were out of character yesterday. Hopefully this game was an anomaly and we'll get back on track next week.
I am a BYU and was at the game, and I can tell you that until the 4th quarter, everyone in my section was still nervous that KState could come back. We were certainly having a blast, but we knew a lot of it was flukey and we respected what KState was capable of.
Great job as always Fitz! What a monumental collapse in all three phases the likes we as Kstate fans have not seen maybe since the Prince years. Now I have to buy a new tv as well. 😢
We needed adversity. Avery Johnson needed adversity he’s a young kid. We will be back. Onto Saturday.
Avery looked like a deer in the headlights and completely unprepared. Talented as can be and I hope he bounces back
The problem teams have in Provo is the crowd. I've heard teams say they can't hear the snap count it's so loud. Then if a visiting team makes a mistake, it fires up the crowd and gets even more deafening. Then the mistakes just snowball. That's what happened tonight to K-State. They are a much better team than what was seen tonight.
No doubt the crowd and atmosphere there played a part, but they've played in crazy hostile atmospheres before and not had this kind of meltdown. Just last year they played in Texas stadium which holds 100,000 people and lost by one score and that place was rocking.
I think the mistakes got in their head and it kept snowballing, creating a bigger and bigger momentum shift to BYU. I think a big part of it is that all of those things happened in such short time frame. We went from feeling pretty in control of the game to down by 3 or 4 scores in about 4 minutes.
@@trevorthiessen6317I went to the Texas game last year and it was nothing like BYU. LES is much louder, by far!!
@occoug I was talking about the Kstate-Texas game that went to overtime. There was a lot of big time intense moments that got the crowd really into it.
Looking at past years I remember how we thought Skylar and Howard were the worst QB’s. They both had multiple interceptions in games and just looked lost. But I believe one of them is going to start today in the NFL and the other had a great game at Ohio State. Avery has only started a handful of games, has he been overhyped yes, but still a young 19 year old with a bright future ahead of him. We Kstate fans are all embarrassed by the loss and I’m sure the trip home for the players was a quiet one, they will learn from this. The team has flaws, but if they can’t find receivers that can get open and catch the ball Avery’s passing stats are going to look bad. Seems like many other teams have a strong, tall receiver, with good speed and they go after the ball and catch it no matter what the situation. With our great rushing attack we just won’t be that elite team if we don’t have at least one great receiver to add to the mix.
Go Cats, let’s take it to the Cowboys next week, I’ll be there.
Whenbrea😢ks came for BYU they totally made the very best of what was given them!! Where did this Moa kid come from? Kinda sorta outa nowhere. WOW!!
I have Covid, couldn’t stay up to the watch the game! Glad I have Covid!
It’s exhausting hearing coach every year after our team lays another egg “Im excited to see how we’re going to respond.” ….2:30 to go first half 3 timeouts we go conservative (fumble, scoop score), 1 minute to go we go aggressive 🥴. Horribly coached game. And they have no idea how to use Avery or Edwards. Avery looks like he’s on a leash out there. Not able to even run free.
Let's be honest: They should have lost to Tulane, but for that fumble.
Arizona score made it look like an easy win. However, Arizona kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties. I'm a big KSTATE fan, but let's be objective. They are not a playoff caliber team this year. UNFORTUNATELY!
Well said and I couldn’t agree more. Any talk of us going to the playoffs reminds me of that Jim Mora interview…”playoffs?! Playoffs? Are you kidding me?! We’re just trying to win a game!”
If you take that fumble away in the Tulane game the scoop and score, K-State was still tied with Tulane and the Wildcats had the momentum. KSU rightfully won that game outright. Arizona got dominated by K-State last Friday night
@@alexkain8564 Tulane moved the ball at will against us
@@scottmac8551 Same Tulane team that was only down 5 points at Oklahoma in the 4th quarter two weeks ago. Acceptable giving up that many yards to them since their freshman quarterback is really good and they have really good skill guys on offense
@@scottmac8551 Plus Tulane only scored one td in the second half against K-State so for all those yards that they got K-State held them out of the end zone and really clamped down when they had to
This game, 2012 Baylor, and the following Fiesta Bowl Game against Oregon. There’s just these games where K State shows up and pees down their leg.
This game was nothing like those other two. This was an epic failure, a clown show. This looked like a KU team from a few years ago. That's saying something.
You totally got kstate. To me that will never change.
Why must we do that. I would love to finally have a full season.
This happens to ALL teams. Hilarious how fans can't see beyond their own team!
@@Big12rocks that’s possible, but K State does it the best. 🏆
The k state penalties were out of control.
I didn’t watch it and not going to. Why? I play golf…Every once in awhile you have a round where you can’t do any phase of the game right and end up with a 90+ score. Then 2 weeks later you shoot a 76. Same thing with the Cats.
Coaches get your shit together and play to your strengths this was your wake up call.
KState need to just burn this tape and move on. This was not a good representation of how good KState is. I think they will beat OkState, start feeling good about themselves and win out. That is a very good KState team.
@@CrownHomes-ph5zf agreed 👍🏽
The disrespect BYU has been getting from the Big 12 has been mind boggling to me. Other than the Iowa State game last year, BYU has either beat or had every team that has come into Provo from Big 12 on the ropes. That team, that stadium, that atmosphere that you saw tonight is normal BYU for us BYU fans. In all reality, the Big 12 better get used to these kind of nights in Provo, because this is what we are about. Love being in the Big 12 and hosting all you great teams in LES. Enjoy your ice cream, and losing when you come to Provo.
Don't be like the fans down down the road in Salt Lake City. Yes, we get disrespected but let's show the nation what we can do and what we are about on the field.
BYU was 2-7 in conference play their first year in the Big 12. That is why they haven’t got respect so far. It doesn’t matter how many games you almost win. BYU is a great addition to the Big 12 but if you want respect you have to win.
Like they did tonight. 🙂
@@CrownHomes-ph5zf
Iowa State, WVU, TCU....and yes, Texas all spanked BYU hard last year. They made BYU look silly. That is why we dot no respect, and not all games will be night games at LES. Dont be surprised if Baylor beats BYU next week.
BYU is a program with a strong and proud history, they were in transition last year and also had an extreme amount of injuries.... I think you're going to see a BYU team that looks more like their tradition in the years to come and they are also placing an emphasis now on their sports program more so than they ever did in the past.
Good luck the rest of the way K-State. Really like your team, feels like BYU is trying to model the program after K-State and Utah. Nothing but well wishes for your season.
Jay Hill is a master mentor on "D"
Outside of the pandemic year, which was a different situation, I honestly think that you have to go back to Stan Parrish to see a team implode that way.
There have been bad losses for sure, but to go from somewhat in control to total free fall in all 3 phases I think of the Louisiana Tech game that was the final one for Parrish.
This team has a lot of potential but IMHO, Riley needs to coach the OL so they can calm down and execute in the red zone, Wells should call the plays and someone or everyone needs to tell Avery to be himself. His footwork, etc needs work, but that can be done in the spring. Right now, they need to play to his strengths and he needs to play loose to do that.
As far as going up against an unranked team while being ranked 2012 Baylor is right up there with last night. Was that the Louisiana Tech game Willie Nelson played at after?
ok so they had a bad game, It happens to every team
Many good points Fitz! They are ruining Avery. They are smothering him in protective bubble wrap, He is not being allowed to be himself as you pointed out. Who is the culprit? I sense that is is both Coach Kleiman but the main culprit IMHO is Wells! Leave Avery TF alone! Wells IS NOT developing Avery he's destroying him, once again, IMHO. This Reilly / Wells Co-OC experiment is a disaster. IMHO
Defensively, ah WTF can you say! EXPOSED is the only word that comes to mind.
Tough performance. Glad my Cougars got the win, but honestly what the hell happened? I was there, and I still don’t believe it.
I was there and I'm still trying to figure it out.
I feel like K-State left points on the board early and I was worried that would come back to haunt them. It felt like the players and coaches felt that pressure too.
The coaches started calling plays to "not screw up" and then the players started screwing up.
I have no words for the punt return or the INT when Avery easily had the first down if he runs.
The punt return was one of the wildest things I've seen in a long time.
Cougars are amazing. Especially on "D". Retzaff ain't so shabby either. Great game all around. Now we gonna get respect in whopper 12 conf.
Three consecutive turnovers resulting in touchdowns and a bizarre muffed punt returned for a touchdown all in the space of five minutes of game time...from 6-3 to 6-31. Add three redzone penalties that negated TDs and this looked like a total team mental breakdown. Never seen anything like that since Prince. They were either unprepared for the environment or something the coaches are rubbing off, like coaching to prevent mistakes more than trusting the players resulting in them playing tight and making mistakes. Pre-snap penalties killed every offensive momentum generated. We usually drop a September dud but this was the worst under Klieman. Can only hope this was an anomaly and they can relax now and place more trust in their abilities.
Before everyone throws the OC's under the bus remember they are running the offense the head coach wants. Messingham, Collin and now Wells and Riley getting way too much blame. The buck stops with the head coach. The last two conference games (ISU last season and tonight) have featured incredibly bad football from this program.
OC issues...
BYU was better prepare and made effective adjustments in the 2nd.... KSU was pass happy and predictable (great way to get blown out).
Welcome to the Matt Wells experience
Avery needs to run until he blows an ACL. Then everyone whines that the kid runs too much. Avery Johnson will be just fine and he needs to be able to make on field, split second decisions without being criticized.
Talk about adjusting this was similar to what my professor told me my freshman year you need to adjust to doing a better job in class and I graduated eight years later we better get in gear
Spot on with the “new” pass first Avery. If the coaching staff does want him to be pass-first, they better scheme up some better route combos. Bubble screens and deep shots down field can’t be the only pass plays in our playbook.
Can you gives some feedback about your visit to Provo?
It's called college football. Three turnovers, punt return & multiple penalties vs BYU having no turnovers & 1 penalty will almost always equal a loss. Our young players do need to learn to become road warriors.
There is no way to prepare for the energy that 65,000 Mormons hopped up on ice cream and 16 inch maple bars can inject into a team. Also, you didn't know this, but Jack Kelly is a future NFL linebacker of the year, like Fred Warner and Kyle Van Noy before him. He was the catalyst that sparked the crowd. Once that happens....good luck. Its like nuclear fission.
As a Cougar fan I like the maple bars (cougar tail)!
We were obviously exposed this past Saturday but this Saturday will define this team.
If you think BYU is trying to model their team after K State you probably should go back in history. I've been a BYU fan since 1972. They are not modeling after anyone.
As a BYU fan, I will be pulling for K-State the rest of the season. With time and maturing, Avery looks like he'll be an eventual Heisman candidate in his upper class years.
Fresno State at home was the only other time I've felt like this
Poor Fitz. You can see the pain in his face
Spot on Fitz! The play calling left much to be desired. They need to open up the offense! Let Avery do his thang!
CK7 needs to come back and do the play calling! WOW!
Hello? You are NOT giving credit to the Y’s defense.
Our coaches F'ed this up. Not the players.
I admit, BYU was obviously the much better team.
get the secondary coverage packages figured out and get some better play calls in the game for Avery to operate,...... will go a long way towards where they want to go
Props to Tim 👏🏻. Not once does he ever blame the refs. Just talks straight and says it how it is.
Sometimes it’s just not your night and sometimes literally everything goes your way.
Tonight was a crazy night where both of the extremes were represented for each team on the same night in the same game.
If you are K-State, you just move on and try to forget it ever happened. If you are BYU, take the W, stay humble, and get ready to get punched in the face on the rematch; because, I fully expect to see the real K-State next time.
K-State is much better than what we saw last night.
in the movie the replacemrnts a player talked about being in quicksand and the harder you struggle the deeper you get. this is what happened to k st.
Something interesting I noticed while re-watching the game... Avery could have easily caught up to the runner with the scoop and score... and attempted to shove him out of bounds. He let up before the 20 and let him go without even trying to catch him. I get wanting to avoid injury... but more than he wants to win? What happened to the fierce competitor in him?
I've watched the Cats play and lose like this when they didn't have any talent. A fan would hope the stars align, the Cats would get breaks, or the other team might just not show up to play. Seeing this? I'm begin wondering about NIL changing player attitudes, are the players playing safe? Are the coaches playing not to lose, versus play to win? Is the team handicapped when playing on the road without the home crowd? You're right Fitz. It was a Bad Loss. With all the talent we got, I'm backed to being a Wildcat fan that will soon be longing for stars to align, big breaks in the game, or the other team just being asleep at the wheel. SERIOUSLY?
Don’t sleep on BYU.
The coaches should be held accountable and roasted for this clown show of a performance. Snyder wouldn't even F up this bad and he's in his 80's FFS!
I warned you about the ice cream!
As I watch the Ravens vs Cowboys it is clear to me how to solve K-State’s offensive challenges. Model Avery Johnson’s game after Lamar Jackson’s. 50/50 play calls of QB runs and passes. Call the game how John Harbaugh calls the game for Lamar Jackson. Play to Avery’s strengths. He needs and wants to play like Lamar.
The only thing left is for the same result to happen in the Utah game.
Kstate offense is way to predictable. This team isn’t like the old Vince Lombardi Green Bay teams where he sad “You know what we are going to do, all you have to do is stop us”! Need to design plays to get Edwards in space. I agree Fitz, AJ needs to get on the edge put pressure on defense. DJ running should be surprise runs up the middle not the standard. Design routes to get receivers open. I didn’t see any open receivers, AJ just made good throws to get completions. This team has the most talent on offense that I have seen in a long time at Kstate! I think Defense is ok. They tried to get turnovers when they got behind. They were put in some bad position by the offense. This coming from an arm chair coach!
Yeah I knew after those 2 back to back TDs by BYU we were toast. 😢
Hope the ice cream was good, Fitz.
Isnt his entire career only about 4-5 games?
Avery doesn't handle the blitz well. Expect to see a lot of pressure next week. Every single long pass he overthrows. Receivers are just an embarrassment.
I haven't seen a large sample of Avery's work as a passer, but it looks to me like he needs to work on his touch somewhat as I have failed to see him drop a ball in between the LBs and DBs in zone coverage but mainly throws everything on a string. This makes it harder to complete those passes and more likely to throw interceptions and overthrows on deep balls.
I certainly hope that this loss leaves a very very bad taste in their mouths. Nothing motivates a team more than getting completely blown out buy another team. They should all be very very focused come Monday
Avery should enjoy his Sunday and watch Lamar Jackson operate. This is the way.
OUCH! 🤕
Fluke game. The only thing BYU did well was red zone defense. Cats were the better team for the first 28 min but then it got to be way past their bedtime, not used to playing so late, and in the mountains, and against 25 year old grown men, and weird things started happening to KSU's more athletic 19 year olds. Cats out gained BYU, and if they played again, KSU would likely still be favored
Always someone here throwing blame on “older men”, years of eligibility are the same for everyone. There’s so many players in college as 6th or even 7th year seniors due to COVID and medical redshirts. Not sure if you realize what two year mission entails: walking around, siting, riding in a car/taxis/bus and sometimes a bike. Usually if you are in another country, chances are you aren’t fed well everyday. No one is training, there’s no time given other than a simple 30 min morning warm up routine. Everyone comes back in worse shape from those two years. It’s okay to say you simply got beat. I’ll admit that without those two plays before half I wonder the outcome, but BYU did force those and simply capitalized on mistakes. Kansas state had times to capitalize on us but didn’t and thus the win by BYU and loss by Kansas state.
OC issues
BYU is simply a better team than Kansas St. Period.
BYU had very good, almost better speed, as well as good breaks, that was the difference
Why don’t you give SOME credit to BYU?
Exactly. Not every error is 'unforced' and K-State is only half the equation.
