  • The Special Interrogation Unit were a unique force within the British Army. They all shared one common trait, they could all speak German and many were the children of German Jews whose families had been victims of the holocaust. This made their mission of disrupting the German forces and integrating them that much more personal.

@@michaelw2288 Yes you are correct sir.
      A tale to amuse.
My father, a Londoner serving with 21 Army Group was invited to join The Jewish Brigade when it was formed, many Jews said, lamentably late.
By 1944 he was attached to his Scots, they'd trained together, worked together, fought together, and they were likewise attached to to him their officer so he chose to continues to lead his Glaswegian Scots.
He and both his brothers had 'special industry' permits and yet all 3 joined up & served.

the SIG substory was part of the 1967 film tobruk
SIG were assigned to act as the africa corp guards to the british commandos that would conduct the raid on tobruk
what this YT video doesn't tell people is that the mission was an absolute disaster, and that is why the SIG was disbanded
despite what this YT implies, the motivation of the jews was to get british army training and weapons to fight against the british in the palestine mandate

Desert navigation - if you can find the plough and then off it the north star, you will never get lost in a desert, sand storms allowing. You simply use the Sun during daytime.

that's probably OK in the Northern Hemisphere..... but only broadly near enough.
Down south, I know the sun navigation method........ this also is only near enough in that it gives you a reasonable heading direction to follow, if you know the method and understand how things work (time of day when taking the readings)...... but it too is a near enough method with no precision. OK if you are heading to a land mark. What if you are heading to an inland location with no land mark... it is so easy to miss the desired location by a few hundred metres and overshoot...... and getting lost. Not totally (you know that you are in the middle of a landmass), but not good enough to know your real location and where to head to next.
Using those method you need to know your margin of error, and at what point to stop and re-examine your situation. Weatherfarkarwe Tribe
