Hey Y'all! Support this channel by LIKING, COMMENTING and SUBSCRIBING! Thank y'all! Sarah
Little details like "...as a result, none of them had soft hands." are so wonderful. The type stuff real people think, and say. Thanks!
Thank you for noticing the truth that is embedded in these stories
My papaw was born in 1889, outlived 3 wives and had two sets of kids. My dad was born in 1932, in the second set. His mom died when he was 12, the youngest was 6 months old. I was born in 1964. So papaw was already in his late 70s. He made it till 1984. Wish I knew more about his life. Loved going to visit roaming the creeks at the foot of the smokies. I was so proud to say that. Hartford tn, groundhog road.😅 just had to share. The house still stands. Used as a vacation rental now.
Thank you for sharing this Sandra, I enjoyed reading it! Sarah
Appalachian born and raised. I am now 65 years old. My fondest memories of my childhood are of my grandparents’ home up a holler in McDowell, West Virginia. No electricity, water came from a well in front yard,
outhouse in the back yard. Wood cook stove where the best food was prepared. As day light faded, oil lamps were lit, casting a peaceful shadow around the room. When bedtime came, Granny led to way up narrow, steep stairs with the oil lamp lighting the way. Such fond memories.
Thanks for sharing your memories

Never had the privilege of the first comment before!

People now would give anything to have a little cabin on the top of a mountain.
Go home at the end of the weekend though 😊
The church looked full. Looks like it held a fairly big congregation.

Hey JD
Before I was born my dad was building what would be my childhood home He went to put the roof on and it was a Sunday he said he’s parents told him not to do it on Sunday but he went ahead and done it anyway The next day the roof fell in He never done anything on Sunday ever again and we never were allowed to do anything on Sunday and I try my best not to work on Sunday
Amen

Hi Randle!
I would say religious superstitions is still alive in the USA. How come women cooking and cleaning up on Sunday wasn't/isn't against Gods law? 🙂Must be a law only for men.
Thanks for sharing this
