i started to use delmar's method 30+ yrs ago. today i still use the same approach not only on hunting dogs, but protection dogs as well and it all blends in so great! i have nothing but respect for mr.delmar smith and family!!!
I think it's great we have Demar and his sons. Man. such a resource. I just dropped my 6 month old GSP to the trainer. Mainly because she uses the Smith system. I am so excited about what he can become. I agree that watching a good dog work is the heart of the hunt for me. I love my pup he loves his pappy, and excited about our years to come. Deiter. he's a liver gsp hard drive and pretty much birdie on his own. I never did the wing on the string thing. I think that's more for my amusement. I worked on basics and let him be a pup. I ran him on the farm with a check cord a few times. Got what I was looking for. He ranges out hunts and comes on command from distance. even from out of site. He likes to keep that nose down. He did well thanks. He's a year this 31st. We are taking him out next month. We have shot bird over him already. Still a pup and we have some years to get him even better. He is a family member and a hunting buddy
