So to speak, in my opinion, this defines Steven Wilson before the madness took over him... This is all him, raw, passionate and true to himself... I think his earlier work speaks volumes of his Genius when compared to his later work, The drumming and guitar slowly picking tempo over the last 4 minutes is so sublime that one mah not even realise it, and the virtuoso solo is Top class! this may not be the most elaborate work of his, but then, so is any great composers first work, this was the very first album that Steven Wilson ever made, and he made all of this almost alone!! and to this day, i believe this is his best guitar work, amongst all his work, To whoever hosted this piece of music, thank you for sharing this Rare Masterpiece! And to Steven , THIS is what made me love your music!
@@greatcoldemptiness I've been for one month only in Wilson's universe. But what a mind and what a musician. I agree the man has the big head ! But some material after In Absentia are SO brilliant : The whole Raven, and Regret 9, with the help of Guthrie are at the top of the music
Will ...Yep! Because this was fiction back then, a band called porcupine tree didn't exist, he made the music and lied to his pals that it was this band called porcupine tree, to right his lie, he did go and really form a band with An awesome line up, Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, Chris Maitland and himself in the person of Steven Wilson, and boy were they good!! what I love about this album is that it's all steven Wilson, all the instruments were played by him and even production and mastering... Genius for such a young lad !!
The Cross jusque 10:05 puis YHD ..../ the Cross till 10:05 then YHD ... this version is completely different from the one on the EP "Staircase infinities" or the vinyl version of 2000. Strange incantation till 14:50 then guitar - the pace increases slowly till 19:20 a sort of Climax ... and calm is coming back slowly as the pace decreases. SW is a genious.
The final part of the album is a robbery to Hawkwind and Grobschnitt. The rest is a shameless robbery to boring and insufferable Pink Floyd. PT zero originality.
Thank you Steven for your work 🙏

What do you mean "madness took over him"? What did madness take over him?
@@ten_tego_teges he's right. Steven is insufferable as fuck these days. Everything post in Absentia feels fake tbh.

Really gives me the goosebumps...anyone felt the same?
SW is undoubtly one of the most underrated genius of the 20th century music..
... and the 21'th.
14:45 and on lead guitar, the PORCUPINE TREE!!!

Joseph Paul Wow, three years later and you’re coming in clutch. I might have to throw on some Porcupine Tree for old times sake - it’s been a while.
@@willmurrin9344And on the lead guitaaaaaard 🌌
One of the simplest yet most effective compositions from Mr. Wilson...I just love the guy...!!
Simply a masterpiece. Hard to imagine it was recorded by SW solely.
Genius wilson!

Not bad. Maybe good. But certainly not great. Great is Voyage 34 Phase I and Phase II. No human will ever again compose something as amazing as that.

PT zero originality.
