Thanks for your comments. I spend a good amount of time on preproduction, selecting a suitable drum kit and then post production for the audio mix and glad to see it's appreciated.
OMG Sal! Came across this by accident. Wish I would have known sooner you did this cover. It was on the Jukebox (G7) in the Service Center at Scott AFB and I played it so much that whenever it came on everyone would shout - "CJ's here!" When I got discharged the manager removed it from the jukebox and presented the 45 to me. (still have it). GREAT JOB as always, Sal.
During pre-production, I find a find that works sonically for the song and will make any necessary modifications to tuning and adding effects. I have literally 100s of drum kits to select from from various software like Addictive Drums, Steven Slate Drums, Superior Drummer, BFD2, Drum Masters2, etc. etc. I then do a mix of my track with the song track so that the my drums are just loud enough to cover up the ones on the recording. Hope that explains it. Thanks for watching my videos.
I've been having to learn a bunch of songs that you've covered on your channel and these videos have been very valuable! Thank you for playing them so authentically. Great meter/pocket by the way. :)
Sal, it's been a while since I've seen a video from you...I have always loved this song and while it might look easy to duplicate on the drums, I can see it is harder than it appears. Another great drumming video! Mike
Great job Sal. Hey kidz this angle of Sal and the Bass being cranked up a little REALLY show how important it is for the Drums and Bass to "Lock In" to make a song GROOVE! Pay attention, it's the "School of Sal" :-)
Cool, thanks. I haven't seen this one in awhile. After I upload these covers I pretty much forget about them unless someone comments on it and I reply, then I get to hear it as I'm replying.
Great cover! I am planning to do a more chunky, metal cover of this tune with some coworkers who play guitar. I appreciate the camera angle here so I can see each strike. \|m|
Anybody knows where to find a transcription of this song for drums? I've watched several covers but they are not the same, and i cannot figure out which is the "correct" one.
I was just wondering(I don't know too much about drums) every time you play a song it sounds EXACTLY like the original and I was wondering how do you get the sound like that?
It comes pretty close to a count from the tempo, but still, in those days of recording they didn't use click tracks, so it's still "rather arbitrary" (imagine that said iwith an English accent : D )
Yea right, and get all those "needs more cowbell" comments :D I would just play the drum part and leave the cowbell sound for the record like I did in Don't Fear The Reaper.
hellixxx Well it's not easy covering a song that is not metronomically spot on and a click wasn't used. One does the best one can in these cases. That stated, I'm pleased with what I played here and the sound of the kit. Perhaps you can put up a cover and showing how it should be played. If not, as we say in Brooklyn: "fuhgeddaboutit!!!"
hellixxx Apparently you missed it...In parenthesis it clearly says "Drum Cover". It did NOT say, "Hugh Grundy playing on an acoustic kit in the 1960's. I think Sal did an excellent job. As Sal so politely said (due to his being a good christian), "Perhaps you can put up a cover and showing how it should be played." As for me (constantly struggling to be a good christian), I'll just say - "Put or shut up!" I'll anxiously await for a link to your "stellar" performance!
AFmedic6871 Thanks my friend for sharing your view, much appreciated. I will have to remove helixx's vulgar comment. There are civil ways to make your point without using mean-spirited language and it also makes the person who uses it look bad, so by removing it I'm looking after his back.
Thanks for your comments. I spend a good amount of time on preproduction, selecting a suitable drum kit and then post production for the audio mix and glad to see it's appreciated.
Amazing! I've never seen that drum lick played so accurately. Nice work.
One of my favorite oldies and it was fun to see how the drumming was done. Good job as usual.
I LOVE this song. Great cover- love the use of the rim of the snare as the clap. I dig the angle as well.
You tell 'em Dave, thanks for checking this out and for the wise lesson for the young folk.
Can't get enough of your fantastic
videos. Amazing feel and timing!
Roger Mailloux
Thank you Roger, I’m much appreciative for your support.
Love this song, great job, really great. Great mix, you blend in perfectly.
Excellent cover Sal. This is one that is in my bucket to do. Looks like a fun one. You have it man !!
You sound really great on such a classic song.
Thank you, appreciate you stopping by and giving it a listen/watch.
Very under rated drummer. Weird rhythm and beats when most were doing the Ringo 2 beat snare thing. It made all their songs distinctive.
Great cover man, it's great somebody on RUclips does it right!
Fantastic cover. Thanks for the upload. Starting to learn this tune now.
And nice kit!!
Glad it helped.
Prego! Grazie mille for watching.
Total Groove. Love your take on this!!

How special is that! Thank you my friend for checking out my cover and for your continued support of my channel.
Heard this song on the radio today and I was wondering if anyone on youtube had a drum cover for it. Sure enough. Nice job Sal!
Amazing Cover my friend Sal !! Great sound mixing and production!

Hey Mike, I'm glad to learn that my covers serve your drumming. And thanks for sharing that, it's much appreciate. Good luck with your drumming!
Really enjoyed this!!

You are the Man!!

Thanks. It was also very challenging coming back in after those breaks, not spot on but I got close enough.
Thanks. I was pleased with the drum sound.

Nice Video Sal!

damn man hats off to you
Thanks so much for checking it out.
Awesome!!
Well I'm glad you check out my covers and take time to comment. Thanks very much and good to see folks appreciate drumming.
Nice cover man, real clean .... Timing is spot on... Always like that song... Kinda grovey aint it...
Thanks for checking it out.
Gracias! My wife and I want to visit your city and other places in Spain.
Si! Gracias Diego.
love the angle
Damn good cover. Bravo
Thank you.
Perfect!!!!!
You said, this was your first time drumplaying?...
Well done :-))))
Thanks! I've been drumming for over 50 years & I don't know where you got the idea that I just started drumming.
rhythmantic - Sal D'Amato that was just a joke
:-)))))))
I saw that wasn' t your first time
Because it was sooooo gooood
Thanks much.
Its kinda cool though. The band doesn't get off from one another and it totally catches you by surprise. Its one of the coolest parts of the song
badass!
+Martin Chavez Thanks for checking it out.
Yea Nick, I could see you covering this one. Thanks my friend.
Great job!
Carol's Oldies/Soul
Thank you.
Thanks, appreciate it.
Good one Sal. There's one song I def have to try.
oh god! thanks you! you are great!
Thanks.
Very Nice!
Thank you
Nice work. Have ever noticed how this song is similiar in rhythm to I'm a Man by the Spencer Davis Group?
quiet nice, man!
Thanks Karen, appreciate it. Peace!
cool beats 👍💀😀
Hugh Grundy was a really underrated drummer.
Only to those who don't listen for the drumming.
rhythmantic - Sal D'Amato love this comment. I hate when people use the “underrated” word.
I ask “by whom?? People who’s ratings you respect?”
De nada!! Saludos!
Very nice
Anybody knows where to find a transcription of this song for drums? I've watched several covers but they are not the same, and i cannot figure out which is the "correct" one.
@rhythmantic, How about In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly? I'd love to see your take on that lengthy drum fill!
ESTA VERSION FICOU LINDA
well done.....
Thanks. Wow, never saw the connection, yea, I see what you mean. Actually that would be a good song to cover.
Really? You'll love it. Spain is beautiful. Let me know if you come! (I'm sorry about my english) Greetings!
Regal Rock, Vic Firth Jo Jo Mayer, Zildjian 5A, Vic Firth 5A, Vic Firth Steve Smith - all wood tips.
Thanks! Of course we could do a Tapas crawl, and also taste the famous spanish wines and paellas ;)
I was just wondering(I don't know too much about drums) every time you play a song it sounds EXACTLY like the original and I was wondering how do you get the sound like that?
My favorite part is 1:26 when the ride cybal work starts. More ride cymbal!
It comes pretty close to a count from the tempo, but still, in those days of recording they didn't use click tracks, so it's still "rather arbitrary" (imagine that said iwith an English accent : D )
Your English is fine, and yes, I will let you know. Perhaps we could do a Tapas crawl :D
Yeah, it just struck me one day. Time of the Season is kind of like a minor key version of the I'm a Man riff.
Yea right, and get all those "needs more cowbell" comments :D I would just play the drum part and leave the cowbell sound for the record like I did in Don't Fear The Reaper.
You should do The Animals too.
Where is the wood block
Yeah. It's always about the Guitar, but who holds the song together? The Drummer's.
Yeah does anybody no when to come in on those?
(clap clap clap clap)
Tricky song...
Haha. I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't play the hell outta that cowbell sample :)
I'm a man would be a cool song to cover, yes. You'll have to dial up the cowbell sample :)
Do ogdens nut flake kenney jones really laid that one out.
literally every youtube cover of this does the wrong rhythm on the ride and all the fills are off
