The pullup, if performed well, is a fundamental strength movement for the upper body. With technique efficiency you can develop strength as well as optimal upper body flexibility. Both of these physical characteristics carry over to surfing. When performed well, the pullup can lead the way to much more dynamic upper body training. Train smart.
I am not a surfer but your videos are so inspirational and absolutely useful. I am a fan. Please keep up the outstanding work you do.
Been doing pull up for few months now it really help when I’m paddling in the water
Good video. I appreciate especially the shoulder health implications. Thanks Cris.
+Pat Finnegan glad to hear it. if done efficiently, can be a great movement to rebuild shoulder health , strength, and mobility
Had some shoulder problems in Costa Rica last year. Started including some of your exercises in my schedule. Especially the paddling circuit. Heading out to the north of Spain next week (Mundaka swell!) We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the vids!
enjoy mundane... serious wave!
Another great video Cris. If you or anyone is not familiar with Ido Portal, his channel has some videos on passive hangs and how they improve/maintain shoulder health, along with other "movement" based exercises for over all mobility. He is not focusing on the surf community like you do, but there are
beneficial patterns that you may enjoy. Take care and thanks again for your work.
P.s - that pull up bar looks a little shaky during the fast twitch pull ups haha
+Matthew Cannella spot on man! Ido has done some incredible work.
Your videos are great man. Keep it up!
Thank you !
Great video!!! This is so on point - I have just got back into outrigger canoe after over a year off with frozen shoulder. What other exercises can I do to increase strength - I have no power on the catch when blade enters the water and top hand pushes down. The difference between the two sides is massive! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Cris! Do you have any film of you surfing? I think we're all relatively curious about how all this training pays off in the water! Cheers.
no vids... never been filmed actually other than the once or twice with technique coaches. there's photos floating around on my website and in my various emails. have a look through the facebook page as well, there's some on there. something that needs to be understood: training only builds the foundations of skill and athleticism. no exercise is going to make you rip, and people seem to have that misconception with "surf fitness". it's bullshit. if you move better, if you're stronger, if your joints are healthy, you have a larger buffer for athleticism and skill acquisition (in our case that's surfing) . all my clients can attest to this, and that the work they've done with me has largely improved not only their movement capacity, but their ability to move in the water, with resilience and endurance, and it carries over to any other activity in life. same with me. i've had a full shoulder operation, a totally screwed up other shoulder joint, and mcl and meniscus tear, and a pars fracture of the lumbar spine vertebrae.... and I surf pain free, and surf pretty well. like this video you commented on... if you have more strength in pulling movements, then it will carry over to your strength in burst paddling. will it suddenly improve the '"skill" of paddling... nope, but it will give you a strength buffer and more durable shoulders. if you're still unsatisfied, email me, and i'll send you my surfing selfies
@@SurfStrengthCoach Makes sense. Ripping is a function of a lot of water time especially during the grom years. I am hoping to be able to do push-ups again someday once my elbow tendons heal.
Hi, if i don't have equipment to do at home what should i do?
get equipment to have at home. olympic rings or pullup bar.
