    I have the Smoker X2 with the Billows Fan. I keeps my Old Country Gravity Fed Smoker dialed in to whatever temperature I set. Great quality unit, however the one major oversight with this unit is it does not have a built in timer.

    What do you think if the billows? Did you make a review video of it?

    • @TheSmokingBeard

      I haven't made a specific video reviewing the billows, but since I got it I have used it on almost every smoke. It is worth the investment. If you decide to get one, please use my affiliate links in the description. It helps my channel when people purchase the products using my links. Thanks!

    You say you’re going to lose a temperature probe if you plan on using the billows fan. Are you saying that port will not show the pit ambient temperature?

    • @TheSmokingBeard
      @TheSmokingBeard  2 года назад

      When you connect the billows fan to the signals thermometer, the 4th probe will be dedicated to regulating the temp of the inside of the temp. You connect the special dull probe to the 4th channel and install the dull probe inside the smoker. This means you will lose the 4th port leaving you with 3 to monitor internal temps of your meat. Hope this clears it up

      @@TheSmokingBeard I think hearing the word “lose” confused me. I just want to be sure that 4th spot shows the pit temperature throughout the cook. Thats more important than meat probes for me. I’m seeing that the fan doesn’t take one of the 4 channels. It has its own dedicated port. So it sounds like we still get to use the 4th port to use a pit probe.

      So the way it works is that if you plan to use the billows fan to regulate your smoker's temperature, you will connect a cable from the fan to a "C-Type" connection on the thermometer. This links your fan to the thermometer. The fan, by itself, does not know what the temp of your smoker is at.
      In order for your fan to regular the temp inside your smoker, you have to put a temperature probe inside your smoker. This temperature probe needs to connect to your thermometer. This is where you will lose one of your leads. You connect the smoker temp probe to the 4th lead in your thermometer. This is how the billows fan knows what the temp is inside your smoker. Without doing this, your fan will not activate.
      In short, if you have the Signals (4 lead) Thermometer and want to use the billows fan to regulate temperature inside your smoker, the 4th lead will be dedicated to monitoring the temperature inside the smoker, leads 1-3 will be free to use to check internal meat temperatures of the meat you're smoking.
      If you use the Signals without the fan, all 4 leads will be available to use to monitor meat temperatures.

      @@TheSmokingBeard ok, I use a bbq guru and it has 4 ports. I only use one of those for the pit probe. I don’t use meat thermometers as I just check in after 8 hours with my thermapen one and go from there. So good to know i can buy the smoke x 2 and have a pit probe and one meat probe if I ever wanted it.

    • @TheSmokingBeard
      @TheSmokingBeard  2 года назад +1

      Yes. If you are buying it strictly to use it to monitor temperature inside the smoker, the x2 will work perfectly. Just know that the x2 does not connect to your phone like stated in the video. The Signals is the only one that you can connect to the app and monitor temps that way.
      If you do buy, I ask that you use my affiliate link. It helps my channel out.

    Monitoring the pit temp, with it without Billows is NOT a bad thing.

    • @TheSmokingBeard
      @TheSmokingBeard  2 года назад +1

      Yea... but the billows just makes that that much easier... especially if it is going to be an over night smoke.

      @@TheSmokingBeard I’m just tired of playing the game with my WSM, the in and out game trying to get the temp perfect. Billows squashes that!
