Bruce, I gave up playing a guitar 20 years ago. One of my goals back then was to play Walk Don't Run, but just lacked some good instruction, so I gave up. After seeing your video, at age 66, I'd like to start playing again. I'm buying a Fender Strat Mex soon because now that I'm retired, I have a lot of time on my hands. Thanks for the motivation and for the excellent instruction! Carlos
@@chadkcmo Hi, thanks for contacting me. I waited to answer you because I wanted to make sure that I had time to think about what I wanted to say. It’s been 8 years since I had made the original comment and a lot has happened since then. While I love that song and would love to play it well, I have a nervous condition that prevents me from doing that well. I have come to terms with my condition and will no longer torture myself trying to do something that I have difficulty with. I did buy the guitar, but have sold it since. I can only play the cards that I have been dealt.
That’s it mate keep going on the guitar, I’m now 72 and I will keep playing as long as I can, I’m also a Shadows Junkie and run two delays together one being a Boss DD 3 into a TC electronics Flashback simulated with analogue tape echo, with a bit of twiddling this is as close as I can get to doing all the Shadow sounds. The Flashback is also handy with the tap tempo feature. I also run these in front through of a little VOX AC10 C1 which sounds awesome with a US Strat. Any Strat with decent single coils would work well with the AC10. Have fun 👍 Atb Paul
I practice this song every day. I'm sure the neighbors are probably getting tired of hearing it all the time. My wife makes me play out on the deck and is always telling me to "turn it down". Now that I've seen you play it I can improve on my way since I wasn't playing it quite correctly. I think I've got it down now. I've also just started playing again. I started on guitar when I was 12 years old and now I'm 69 and just recently got me another guitar (Ibanez) and a Crate power block amp head. I had a Kustom 150 amp head with a Kustom bass speaker cabinet with 3 Altec Lansing's 15 inch with the silver cones. I also had a 1972 Fender Telecaster and sold all of it when I got married. I sure wish I had my old set up back. But I'm now happy with what I have. I'm a 50% disabled Vietnam vet and in need of a clip on tuner so I can intonate my guitar. My guitar has a place for a whammy bar but I cannot afford one yet. I just press on the floating bridge. It will go up but no dives.
Aha! A little bit of help with the rough spots, especially the break. I have waited years for someone to show me the parts I had unfinished, clear back to the first time I was amazed at the sound a Mosrite was giving me in San Antonio. Thanks!
Enjoyed that! Back in about 1961 when I was first learning guitar I figured "if I can ever play "Walk Don't Run" like the Ventures I'll be a real guitarist!" Sure wish your video had been around then it would have saved me endless hours of hard work! (But yeah, that work was fun) ;-)
I was just a teen when Surf Rock, and the Beach Movies were so popular. I still love surf rock and playing songs by The Ventures, The Shadows, Dick Dale, etc. Thank You for helping me refine many of the songs that I have been playing incorrectly for almost 50 years and Thank You for keeping Surf Music alive !!!!! I would love to find out how you get such a great surf tone !!
Bob Bogle played the lead guitar and Nokie Edwards played bass on the recording. In fact Bob played lead on many of the early recordings. As Don Wilson (rthym guitar) said Bob & I are the sound of The Ventures
I have always liked this song, telling my age now, and you sir have just given the most comprehensive and thoroughly explained lesson any guitarist could have asked for. Thank you!
I’ve played this song on drums in many oldies bands . Now I’m learning the. Guitar part from you. Always loved the swag groove of this song . Your a good teacher. Thanks no wonder you got over40.000 subscribers you got one more
Great job Bruce, you are 'The Boss' for surf music for sure. Great to see this music captured and passed on to future generations. This tune has a really great feel good factor :-)
Thanks Bruce - I like the way you bring this down to real basics and easy to understand, great teaching tech. Sorry you have to put up with such rude comments as the previous writer - please don't let that put you off helping others - it's very much appreciated. Mel
So I opened this one up in one window and the one you published seven years ago in another and played them both at the same time. Because of the small time lag between the time I hit play it produced an excellent delay effect. Ha! Loved it, learned it, thanks to you, Bruce!
I played all these guitar instrumentals in the 60 s I'm 76 now .All learned from sheet music shared with other guitarists that's how we learned Youi've got it easy now.
My dear Bruce thank you so much for taking the time and effort to teach us newbies this,,,m8 its so hard to find some one to take the time to do this so a great big thumbs up hope u do loads more,,cheers bud wishing u all the best take care Mac
Yes I agree bruce is on of the best teachers its important to call notes by what letter they are represented by god bless all music lovers teachers student and fans selah
Nice job, I have learned several of your songs from RUclips. Accurate and CLEAR video, unhurried lesson. Thanks for your time and preparation as it is appreciated.
I love your Jaguar! I just got a Kurt Cobain Signature '65 modded Jaguar, I AM IN LOVE WITH IT! its my first fender. and I look to do a cover of "Walk Don't Run" as my First cover with it. thanks to this video! thank you! you inspired me to do this song finally!
Nice job Bruce...in the past I have always learned tunes by ear (that can take a lot of repitition depending on the song and lead)..but it sure is nice to have someone like yourself who does a great job of making things much easier. It simply saves a lot of time, plus we can see other styles that maybe we can learn and incorporate into our own playing. I have seen a lot of instructional video, some good some not so good (but all appreciated), and yours is A+ !!! Keep up the good work ! Chuck
Gracias amigo esta muy bien explicado,me la aprendi en toda una noche ahora solo me falta practicarla mucho xq todavia tengovarios fallos...MUCHAS GRACIAS Y SUERTE!!
Another great lesson Bruce! Thank you for the time and effort you put into these lessons as they have helped me, any many more, learn great stuff from a great guitar player.
The version taught by the Rocksmith game includes some oddly placed double stops in the melody. I seem to hear many of them in The Ventures recording. Their double stops are somewhat inconsistent and give the song a wilder, less controlled sound. Double stops were very popular in the 50s and early 60s rock possibly due to Chuck Berry's frequent use of them.
It's so great, not to mention cool, to have you show this classic to very appreciative amateurs like me, who haven't the time, or maybe the talent, to break down familiar tunes to play and enjoy. I'm grateful for this one, and the many others you have posted that I will enjoy learning and playing. It's my hope that reviews like mine keep you motivated to continue with your lessons as you add other themes and styles to your repertoire. Thanks again
One of my favorite youtube channels. I get so much from your videos. I'm mostly playing bass these days but have been looking into the guitar parts for some of the songs I'm working on with the bass. This is a fantastic demo/lesson. Thanks

Their double stops are somewhat inconsistent and give the song a wilder, less controlled sound. Double stops were very popular in the 50s and early 60s rock possibly due to Chuck Berry's frequent use of them.
