I have one. Been using it for a couple of months, mainly to edit a large word document (1100 pages). It can be slightly sluggish but it generally keeps up - autosave hogs the computer for about 5-10 seconds at a time. Typing on the keyboard is a bit painful (as an experience, not literally painful). The delete and backspace keys placement/ size means that instead of deleting a line, I end up adding some dashes or equals signs. Even now, I'm making several errors in a sentence, most often hitting b or v instead of the space bar.
However it is very light and portable, and I've been using it far more than my surface book (which I sold eventually as it was really really heavy). I haven't used the pen much, it's a pain that there isn't a way to attach it, so I never have the pen with me. However I just found out that the stylus (S Pen) of the Galaxy note 5 works very well with it, so I'm probably going to be using the pen function more now.

I have the Windows version and I'd say its more like a next-generation Netbook more than anything else. It's super neat to use OneNote on this though.

I have got both the Android and Windows 10 version. I have ended up selling the Android version. I can remote desktop into my work computer better via Windows 10. I can do surprising good amount of work (accounts work) on it, and it is good for visiting clients. I can't touch type so the keyboard is ok for me.

Thank you for your excellent review. I have a Windows Yoga Book since several weeks. The performance is good after having changed the settings to 'Best performance' in the control panel and disabled the automatic start of most programs. There are some good websites which explain on how to improve the overall performance of any Windows machine. The start takes now around 5 seconds.
I'm pretty satisfied and acquired it in order to run SAP on a remote basis. It is a complete Windows laptop! Also MS Office is running well on it. It will not replace my Apple MacBook at the office - but it is my 'laptop' when I travel. It is far better than a normal tablet and can do everything what my normal PCs can do - also it can read from a USB key (via an adapter).
You need to get used to the small and very sensible touch-pad and to the keyboard. This took me a while but now it works fine.
In case that you need a second pen, the Wacom Spark pen is 'identical' and the original pen fillings can be acquired low cost directly from the producer (Starminen.ch).
I have a LTE version and it is very convenient to have connection everywhere. The wi-fi and cellular connections work reasonable fast.
My dream would be to have it dual boot and preferable as a Windows / Chromebook (including Playstore).

    I would buy it because..
    1) The small size and light weight form is perfect to chuck it into my handbag daily. Don't even need a dedicated laptop bag.
    2) I could use it comfortably as an e-reader especially for ebooks which I have in my cloud storage.
    3) It's perfect size as a comic and manga reader. Awesome.
    4) I would use it with cloud tools and apps for office stuff - like documents editing etc
    5) I could binge on movies and drama while laying around on the couch or on the bed without tiring of holding it. I don't need to sit at my desktop unit to do that.
I am not 100% sure if I would like that halo keyboard tho. Worried it might change my touch typing muscle memory. Hope I don't need to type too much with it. Ha.
Anyways, I really enjoy your reviews. Very thorough and thoughtful :)

As a medical translator I take notes in consultation with client and doctor , this little machine saves carrying multiple heavy client history with me as I write the notes throughout the interview (which then are also digital immediately) and can access their history for any clarifications during the consultation from the cloud. It's a gem and I have both android and Windows versions as the android couldn't hand write to text on the go!

I've had mine now for almost two years and still use it all the time. Purchased a small backlit bluetooth keyboard which is good for windows, android, and IOS. I use Nebo and OneNote for notes and they both work very well. I would highly recommend this device for anyone looking for something like this.

It may not be 100% but I have to congratulate Lenovo for having the balls to try something different. Getting so fed up with the lack of any innovation in laptops. Oooh bigger battery, oooh faster processor, oooh smaller bezels is all we get these days. Well done Lenovo!

I went with the Windows 10 version. At the time I purchased it the alternate game with Android Marshmallow which had limited support for running two windows side by side. I don't regret the purchase. Build quality is great, screen is great, and the speakers are surprisingly good. As a touch typist the keyboard takes a lot of getting used to.

I have it, and it is great for drawing. Do not expect to do very professional work with it because of the little RAM and weak CPU it has, but it does a great job for sketches, writing, doodles, creative work that you will continue on your main device. I don't see it fit for editing large documents or spreadsheet work, because the screen isn't that big to avoid eye strain. It is best for work on the go, it won't replace your laptop but will save you alot of weight and space if you travel.

I have considered it, and at the time when this video was posted, I bought a Lenovo MIIX310 instead. Because the MIIX310 offers detachable physical keyboard and 2 full-size USB-A ports, a bigger battery, a lighter weight when using as a tablet, a cheaper price, and of cause, a worse screen.

  • @Paul2377
    @Paul2377 7 лет назад +2

Thanks Tom - good video! It looks good, but the non physical keyboard puts me off a bit. I'd probably just end up using it as a tablet and I've already got an iPad for that.

  • @bethnglenn

Very good review, thanks. The question, can it replace a laptop, is a bit hollow. Can it extend a laptop? is more to the point and informative. The Windows Yoga Book changes how I can work with all my devices and services. Keyboard good enough? The best is the one you have. Not as good as a tray of Chiclets, better than onscreen, easy to Bluetooth a real keyboard with.

You could consider buying this if you have a good deal. I got one in my country for just around 275$ so i just take it as a no brainer.
Then, for the typing issue, I just bought a bluetooth keyboard. Nobody is going to just take the notebook alone out to the working place, so having a small portable keyboard in your bag isn't that inconvenience. It's just like another book on top of the "yoga book"
Long batt life, win 10, cheap, super light n portable, you can draw on it (i would say it is better suit for a student or as a budget option than for a professional use)

  • @Maxificent

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  7 лет назад

It is marketed as a windows tablet (2-in-1) though. So it's a tablet with a extra keyboard/drawing pad rather than a laptop without physical keys. :)

The touchscreen problem isn’t real if you use phones and tablets a lot say u use an iPad Pro getting this keyboard you can type quickly without many mistakes. I feel ur being close minded on this because you have a traditional laptop you believe it should only get this if you already have a laptop which most people wouldn’t consider practical to get it then (this was typed on a a touchscreen.

I wonder how the Android version keyboard handles multiple language input. On Windows you just add another keyboard layout and switch to it. On Android it's a bit trickier, and this is not an on-screen keyboard where you can change layouts relatively easily.

Hi, great video, I have a question though, on the yoga book windows version can you write on the pad (and have it digitized) while multitasking with other programs? for example, taking notes on the pad while watching youtube? as far as i know the android version has the app "note saver" on it which allows write while multitask therefore I was wondering if you could do the same in windows. Thanks

Thanks for the review, Chap! Has someone tried running a development IDE on it? I need a small and light notebook such as this for when traveling lightly. I already have a 12" thinkpad for when I need more work power and type more. But I fell in love with the form factor in the Yoga Book. I don't mind the digital touch keyboard as long I can edit som code with it. I'm worried about the performance of the Atom chip. 4GB of ram is too little for heavy multitasking but I think CPU is more limiting here. That said, there may be some Windows specific things one can do to speed up a little, like assign more CPU to certain processes and turn off windows features such as cortana, using adblockers, disabling services etc.

Scale up the same design to that of a 13" ultrabook, put in a proper keyboard/touchpad, instead of that other deal, keep it fanless, 16gb ram, 1080p 16:9 screen and change the name of the manufacturer to one that haven't let me down time and time again, and I'm sold. Seriously, I'd amputate my left leg with a rusty hacksaw, if I could get a reasonable package deal like that.

  • @RandomYTStuff

You drew on the laptop comparison too much; it just doesn't make sense. It is targeted at digital artists, students who want to digitize their work, and tablet-loving professionals who find themselves writing on the screen's virtual keyboard. The tablet is ideal for them, combining the advantages of a tablet (small weight, portable) with the advantages of a "laptop", i.e. an integrated keyboard that does not take up screen space.
How many times have you seen journalists typing away on their tablet? This is for them...this way they get a stable surface to type on, more convenient angles, they can hand-write if they wish to (to write faster), while keeping digital copies of everything they do.
Now, I would love to have this with a SSD drive and an Apollo-Lake processor and two USB-C ports...this would so increase its practicality, without going overboard on specs, which would not make much sense and would put it up against proper laptop-replacements.

Hello fellow humans, I have a question. Say you work with documents (PDF) that need to be signed by various parties; if I'm face to face with said individual(s) can they sign the PDF and will it save as normal w/ their signature on it? Has anyone used it for this purpose and if so how has it worked out for you? Thanks
