First: best Bond-Song ever!!!! Love the song love the movie! For Your Eyes Only 3. From Russia with Love 4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 5. Thunderball 6. The Spy Who Loved Me 7. Live and Let Die 8. Goldfinger 9. Dr. No 10. Diamonds are Forever 11. You only Live Twice 12. The Man with the Golden Gun
This is easily my favorite Moore bond movie. I wonder if them bringing in moore for bond again at then eleventh hour had a lot to do with fears of puting a new face against Sean's bond
Pretty much. Brolin probably wouldn’t have stood a chance against Connery. It’s funny. As much as the edgy Bond fans love to shit Roger Moore for “ruining” the franchise, the fact of the matter is Moore’s Bond movies made way more money than any Connery’s movies did. That doesn’t mean one is better than the other, but it did show that Roger Moore was profitable.
There's a 1 year time limit for gossip about this film. There's a 1 year time limit for gossip about the latest blu-ray version of this motion picture. But You're not allowed to discuss plot. The plot discussion ended in 1985.
"For your eyes only" is one of the best Bond films, it is always fun to watch. The homonymous song, even today, 2024, is considered a classic. I so much prefer these old classic Bond films than the ones they film today..
This is one of my Favourite bond films, the scene where moore kicks the assasins car of the bridge shows a much darker bond. Great cast and top action.
Best score of any Bond film IMO. The music in this was spot on! It was fun and drove the action sequences tremendously. It's one of the very few movie scores I've actually enjoyed listening to over and over.
Definitely my favorite Moore 007 movie precisely because it relied far less on gadgets and huge sets. I’m fine with the villain in this one. Not every Bond villain needs to capture nukes and threaten the world.
Are you remembering 1981? Remembering the VHS tape version? Remembering the 1990's DVD version? The time limit for gossiping about the plot is over. Which version of the plot did you see? Why do you need to watch every bond DVD version. If people weren't born, it doesn't apply to them. Its irrelevant.
This is the best Roger Moore James Bond. One thing I like was the villians are just regular guys that are trying to make money the bad guy way its not in your face stupid villains that its way out there and not realistic. This is a more realistic Bond movie. Its dark series and the music is awesome. You have to know that this was made in 1980-1981. In 1980 the music world was still had that disco vibe going. Sheena Easton is the best. For Your Eyes Only is in my top 5 007 Bond movie.
@@69beratis4 I feel the same way as I have watched two Conery films and they are average at best. The Moore era is so loaded with humor and great characters.
You made a quirky remark reference the music that Conte made for this bond film but what you don’t know is this. I was a very young man growing up in WestGermany when this movie came out. My Dad was stationed in Stuttgart and I had a blast over there. In the movie of the ski chase seen, the 70s style electric music that was used, was very popular in Europe. So much so that the local American military TV station “AFN” used it, a lot, in their commercials. It’s a facet of life for military brats overseas that non-military stateside adults, let alone children, will never understand. This was definitely one of the greater movies for me and probably many of my fellow classmates that we look back on; that it brings a great moment of our childhood forward.
I have to say that this is probably my favorite Roger Moore Bond movie. I hated Moonraker, and I think everyone thought they were just getting silly more than anything else at this point, so a... not stripped down, but a pared down and almost back-to-basics approach was so welcome! It was a no-nonsense Bond, almost like what you got during the Timothy Dalton run. And one other thing... I think this was the first Bond movie to get a full showing on cable TV (it was still really new when Moonraker came out), so having it on TV several times a month could very well have shown Bond to more people for the first time than had ever wanted to go see him in the theater. All in all, as you suggest, I think if Roger had ended it there, he’d have been better off. But hey, that’s just me. :)
For your Eyes Only was the first Bond film I saw at the cinema (I was 10) and will always be one of my favourites. Definitely Roger Moore at his best. Love the action, Carole Bouquet. Wow. And love the Ending, even the Thatcher gag.
A couple of days ago I watched the newest Bond movie, I already forgot it's title. Took me 5 days to get through that piece of... I rewatched 'For your eyes only' today in one go. This movie is my all time favourite, this is entertainment pure. Nowadays pretty much everything is unwatchable. Well, saves me money, I don't need a subscription for any streaming services or money for the theatre.
Yes! I love for your eyes only. I love this movie. Roger Moore at his best. I like how he is less lady obsessed. The main bond girl is great. The action is well done. Colombo is Awesome! And the villain is good. The story is well done I think and the movie is more of an adventure odyssey that was well planned out instead of a cheap script. Bond is more cold blooded just like the books but is still charming. The cliff hanger scene is awesome! I give this movie an A-. Great review Joblo I loved it. I cant wait for license to kill! Also it my moms favorite bond movie so thank you!
A much welcome return to Earth (literally). Melina is one of the best Bond girls, both for having a strong motivation as well as being one of the most beautiful. FYEO also has one of the best stunt sequences that made me gasp, when one of Kristatos's goons pushes Bond off the cliffside. Legitimately nerve-wracking.
I really do enjoy your videos. Thank you for taking the time to research your content and present it in a funny but informative way. Looking forward to the next one.
IMO this is the best of the Moore Bond's and is often forgotten. It strikes a nice balance between the Moore campiness, some seriousness and some genuinely good action. It also ticks a box for me with Bond having a great ally in Columbo.
Topol was so good and charismatic that for most of the movie, I was waiting for him to be revealed as the real villain! Hahaha! And while I somewhat agree with your take on Bill Conti (we can’t all be a John Barry), I still think it was a good score and fit the action oriented aesthetic of this movie.
I never in a million years thought that when I saw this film at the theater, that I would eventually meet Sir Roger a number of years later. And not only did I meet him, but I also met Richard Kiel, (Jaws), and John Rhyes Davis, who played Pushkin in The Living Daylights. It was a wonderful experience to have met all of them....
Star Trek: The Motion Picture was not a flop. It broke the record for highest opening weekend gross o, and ended up making back more than triple its budget during its theatrical release. Up until Star Trek: 2009, it was the highest grossing Star Trek film, adjusted for inflation. Other than that, great review.
TMP was a success but Paramount was pissed off that the budget ballooned to 35 million dollars which was 20 million more than they wanted to spend. That's why Roddenberry was "booted upstairs" for the subsequent TOS films
This is my favorite of the Roger Moore Bond movies. The scene with the car is the closest he ever got to Ian Fleming’s vision of Bond. A dark, cold-blooded, assassin.
Good review! Seeing this movie on Blu-ray in 2013 really opened my eyes to how underrated it is and made it share the place of my favorite Bond with "The Living Daylights"...It has great locations on Cortina D'Ampezzo and the Greek islands and wonderful underwater sequences (even the "dry for wet" ones look great!) with cool submarine gear - that according to John Glen's commentary was all real submarine equipment -, great presence from Topol and Lynn Holly-Johnson and in my opinion the best take on the "Bond is getting old" angle than any other entry in the franchise. I only disagree about Bill Conti's score, which I consider the best non-John Barry one in the series and really suits the era and style of the movie, especially the piece that plays during the Citroën 2CV chase sequence in the beginning - Conti was actually recommended by Barry himself after he was forbidden from having any income in the UK on that year as a tax expatriate...
Well, I've just experienced the 2021 blu-ray DVD version and i need a new emotional system cause mine was destroyed from the intense emotional experience of home cinema. The sounds were SO detailed I could actually touch them they were that good. The sounds were flying around the room. I'm extremely happy with the extremely lowest sound experience from this version. At the lowest level its the original cinema sounds and it blows you away. From There you can boost the sounds to way more intense levels. You can boost upto 120 speakers.
What a relief to see “For Your Eyes Only,” after the crap that had preceded it! This remains, far and away, Roger Moore’s best Bond film: script, production design, action, locations; and above all, a director who got Mr Moore to finally play the role of James Bond! A film in the tradition of the best one of all - “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” A film that makes good use of its source material, by the master, Ian Fleming. See how well old Roger can do, when he sets his mind to it? And when he has a director with a clear vision of the Bond universe? Too bad it wasn’t sustained in the next two films!
Sorry, I forgot - excellent supporting cast, including Topol and Julian Glover! Who could not be dazzled by Carole Bouquet? And Bill Conti’s fresh, innovative score to liven up the proceedings. One of the best films in the series!
The scene where the henchmen are following Bond up the ski jump with the banging piano chords creating drama still strikes me today as a brilliant composition. The way it transitions with the strumming electric guitar is so 80's. I was a teen in the 80's and this movie captured the era so well; the non-white Lotus, Carol Bouquet, the meddling Russians.
This was my very first Bond film. I discovered an old vhs that had an ABC Sunday Night Movie airing of it (network premiere?). I then discovered my Dad's CBS FOX cassettes and the rest was history..
Thank you for being trans positive in your essay, that was noticed and you dealt with it in a straightforward unflashy way. Way to go. Also: your James Bond series has become the stuff of legends. Keep up the good work.
Great review, i saw this aged 9 in cinema and it was perfect Bond plus the audience had a good belly laugh at Maggie slapping Dennis's hand and the parrot.
I live near the lotus factory, and in 1983, they brought that Esprit to the School fete, and I had a ride in it. Years later in 1997 I got a job at the factory, and stayed there for 15 years
Despite the pre-credit silliness, this is still one of my favourite Moore Bond films (others being Live and let Die and Spy). Mostly because of the fate of Locke. Moore did something similar with the bald fat man on the rooftop in Spy, but I guess that is not so important since he was just a low-rent henchman and not one of the main adversaries. Sheena Easton is absolutely the best Bond track.
I liked the scene where Bond offed the hitman Loche. He was a cold-blooded character and so his going off the side after being shot was a rather fitting end. It should be remembered that Bond in the book series could be rather cold-blooded himself when dealing with villains.
It's the best Moore Bond movie. The plot might be all over the place but the action is great and the characters are interesting. One of the best in the whole series.

The films haven't been shown ever since 1982.
We don't know what you saw.
You could have seen something from an iphone at volume setting number 10.
I've never seen that experience.
Lets inform you the 2021 blu-ray DVD version IS design to produce the best images that haven't been shown prior to 2020.
It also produces sounds that are extremely intense, like nothing experienced before.
That's just from the DVD. TV's claim image boosting and more enhanced sounds etc..
Today's product blows away the 1981 1982 1983 product combined.
Home cinema needs to have warning signs cause its designed to blow you away.
First: best Bond-Song ever!!!! Love the song love the movie! This is really one of the great Bond-Movies, Roger Moore is my favorite Bond so naturally this ranks very very high my list :-)
Oh and by the way, I love the Title-Song ;-)
1. Moonraker
2. For Your Eyes Only
3. From Russia with Love
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
5. Thunderball
6. The Spy Who Loved Me
7. Live and Let Die
8. Goldfinger
9. Dr. No
10. Diamonds are Forever
11. You only Live Twice
12. The Man with the Golden Gun
Excellent retrospective for an excellent & under appreciated Bond film. Well done.
This is easily my favorite Moore bond movie. I wonder if them bringing in moore for bond again at then eleventh hour had a lot to do with fears of puting a new face against Sean's bond
Well that was definitely why they didn't let him go for Octopussy
The soundtrack was awesome, really has that 80's vibe and Rocky feel especially during the triathlon action sequence
You forgot to give extra points for Carole Bouquet's AMAZING hair. 8>)
I didn't know there was so much heat on moore for the cannonball run film, pretty funny
This is my favourite bond film of all time even after 42 years later this still beats anything any other actor who has played the role since.
Definitely my favorite Moore 007 movie precisely because it relied far less on gadgets and huge sets. I’m fine with the villain in this one. Not every Bond villain needs to capture nukes and threaten the world.
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍!.
Another great Bond summary! This whole retrospective has been fantastic!
And my #1 favorite 007 film, and I totally agree it’s Moore’s best performance. Not much else I can say about the best. Thank you! 🥇
For Your Eyes Only is in my top 5 007 Bond movie.
the opening theme in this one is my absolute favourite bond theme of all time, just fantastic
Still one of my favorite Bond films. I loved the back to basics and more down to earth feel.
The roger moore films are the only james bond movies I can really sit through.
I agree! I can tolerate the Connery era, but I pretty much stopped watching after Moore.
100% agree
"JoBlo will return in Octopussy" is pretty straight-forward, Chris
I love this James Bond series you’re doing. Thank you 🙌🏽
Haim Topol is one of the most prominent Israeli entetainers. Mostly retired for some years. Much beloved.
I like Topol. Great entertainer. 😃
His screen presence is amazing. That’s what really struck me on a recent re-watch of this.
he had such an outsized presence on screen it was almost distracting. this was also true in flash gordon where he played dr. zarkov.
Just finished watching and this is a very fair critique. I really am beginning to think of roger Moore as my favourite Bond after watching this.
Great scenes shot around Corfu, the Greek Village, to the shots around the Island.
For your Eyes Only was the first Bond film I saw at the cinema (I was 10) and will always be one of my favourites. Definitely Roger Moore at his best. Love the action, Carole Bouquet. Wow. And love the Ending, even the Thatcher gag.
My first Bond film! I was 10 years. I have been Bond fan ever since!
My Favourite Roger Moore Bond film. Back to basics and for me a solid believable spy story
This was the first Bond film I'd ever seen.
Carole Bouquet will always be my favorite Bond Girl. Absolutely stunning and a great actress to boot.
Awesome song. Memorable poster sets the standard!!! Great action. Beautiful Bond girls. One of my favourites.
6:09 How many actors can claim they were a villain in Star Wars, James Bond, Indiana Jones _and_ Harry Potter? Only *Julian Glover*
Glover's General Veers in Empire (episode 5) was a middling, barely memorable underling.
I had no idea he was in Harry Potter. He voiced the spider Aragog.
IMO this is the best of the Moore Bond's and is often forgotten. It strikes a nice balance between the Moore campiness, some seriousness and some genuinely good action. It also ticks a box for me with Bond having a great ally in Columbo.
When this was played on TV in 1985, I watched it with eyes wide open
But it was absolutely terrible to actually watch.
@@drawingdead9025 Agreed Robert, sometimes reffered to as The Slow Motion picture, it was a real slog.
TMP was a success but Paramount was pissed off that the budget ballooned to 35 million dollars which was 20 million more than they wanted to spend. That's why Roddenberry was "booted upstairs" for the subsequent TOS films
First Bond that I saw on theater when I was 10. Now I'm a proud owner of a 2CV Citroën.
The opening scene is one of my favourites, great stunts and humour
I found Bibi was the top Bond girl in this film. The main had no charisma, and the casino/beach woman was fleeting.
Definitely one of the better Bond movies, easily in the top 10- was my favourite for a while but tastes change- LtK is still my no. 1
For Your Eyes Only remains in my top 3 Bond movies of all time. Granted that has a lot to do with when I first remember watching Bond movies.
I took my 2nd girlfriend to see this at the movies.
This defiantly Moores best Bond film.
I really like this movie. Fun stuff.
2nd only to Casino Royale.
Hey c’mon?! I really like Conti’s score! The ski chase and the mountain climb sequences are excellent!!
My all time favorite Bond film.
My favorite Moore Era Bond!
Moonraker is a guilty pleasure favorite and The Spy Who Loved Me is also great
I’ve always favored The Spy Who Loved Me and A View to a Kill (don’t judge too harshly), but this reminds how well done For Your Eyes only is.
One of my favorite Bond Movies
Great video!!! Moore was excellent in this outing and the film is strong. The perfect follow up to moonraker in my opinion.
One of my favorite james bond films which also the first bond movie that i have on blu ray!
Great review. I agree with EVERYthing you said and glad you mentioned what a flat squeaky tire the score is. If only John Barry!
2:36 Gold
Always been my pick for favourite bond film
The scene where the henchmen are following Bond up the ski jump with the banging piano chords creating drama still strikes me today as a brilliant composition. The way it transitions with the strumming electric guitar is so 80's. I was a teen in the 80's and this movie captured the era so well; the non-white Lotus, Carol Bouquet, the meddling Russians.
Hands down my favorite of the Moore era, and I think pretty underrated as well
This was my very first Bond film. I discovered an old vhs that had an ABC Sunday Night Movie airing of it (network premiere?). I then discovered my Dad's CBS FOX cassettes and the rest was history..
This from is considered to be the best Roger Moore/James Bond film in the series.
My favorite Roger Moore Bond flick
Thank you for being trans positive in your essay, that was noticed and you dealt with it in a straightforward unflashy way. Way to go. Also: your James Bond series has become the stuff of legends. Keep up the good work.
this is the best bond film !!!!
The running gag of the teenager trying to get in Bond's pants always made me laugh.
It’s kinda incredible Charles Dance never played a Bond villain isn’t it?
Indeed
Great review, i saw this aged 9 in cinema and it was perfect Bond plus the audience had a good belly laugh at Maggie slapping Dennis's hand and the parrot.
The Countess scenes are the best in the Bond series.
NEWTSUIT! the only reason to watch this film... from Vancouver BC Canada, home of Phil Nuytten, and the Suit... Cheers!
Love what you do. Great channel
I enjoyed 'Cannonball Run'. We all have our little quirks.
Same here. Love Moore mocking himself.
It's the best Moore Bond movie. The plot might be all over the place but the action is great and the characters are interesting. One of the best in the whole series.
