Merry Blessed Christmas ladies! I really appreciate what Jayna said about mental health and the different ways to go about. Also putting the other first and yourself last. JOY. Jesus Others-Yourself. Blessings to you both.
I totally agree with Jayna that "self care" is so often out of balance. Our life in Christ meets our every need and is the only solution to every problem. btw, mindfulness is, in some aspects, anti-Christ and, overall, is a substitute for biblical sanctification. (not saying you were promoting it, just giving a heads up to everyone to not fall for it.) With that said, Merry Christmas everyone!
I think "mindfulness" has a very ambigous definition in today's culture. Perhaps there are more specific words to use. Because I do agree with you. Intentional and self aware might be better words in our context.
Hmm, I'm not sure I agree with it being the only solution to every problem. Someone with schizophrenia for example definitely needs medical care and if left untreated it can ruin their life. Sometimes God can be guiding us to forms of self care in the medical field. Also, what part of mindfulness is anti-Christ to you? To my understanding, it is primarily about focusing on the present moment. So, focusing on noticing details around you in your environment, breathing exercises to calm you down, paying attention to how your body is feeling in the moment, stuff like that. It's primarily a mechanism to help you calm down and take a breather in a world that's constantly saying "go, go, go"
@@HoneyImHomemaker Yes, in your context, "intentional" and "self-aware" might be better terms, but just know that others will take even those words and assume you are talking about mindfulness as a mind/body practice that stems from Buddhism. "Mindfulness" is defined, in part, as being "self-aware." Mindfulness is a structured "spiritual discipline" that is now being taught in some elementary and high schools, and in some corporations.
Jayna, you have a special talent when it comes to seeing what needs done first! I wish I had that talent. I feel like I'm going in all different directions, spinning all the plates! Also thank you for the conviction of making myself an idol! I mean this in the best way possible! I struggled with anxiety this past year and have found when I turn from myself and being on my phone to others it helps tremendously! Thank you again.
Throw pillows , buy once and then make different covers to change up, you can easily store a pillow cover, takes very little space. Also you can thrift different covers if you don’t sew.
Just an FYI: In 1965, a time when most women couldn’t even apply for a bank card without their husband’s signature, our founder Ruth Fertel risked it all and mortgaged her home to buy a small steak house in New Orleans. As a single mom with two boys, Ruth taught herself the restaurant business, endured countless challenges and, in the process, redefined hospitality. When a kitchen fire destroyed Chris Steak House in 1976, Ruth was forced to relocate her business, but the Chris Steak House name wasn’t allowed to come along. Short on time, Ruth improvised, adding her own name to the sign. That made it “Ruth’s Chris Steak House” and our legendary name was born.

In 1965, in New Orleans, a woman named Ruth bought a steakhouse called Chris Steakhouse. When the original building burned and she opened in a new location, she added her name, therefore, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
tip for preheating the oven if you in a time crunch. Turn on your oven on broil for a couple minutes and then turn on your oven for the temp you need, it speeds up the heating time a lot
Recording in baby books: I made a deal with my Mother in Law, since she has more time available, she updated my sorely lacking baby books with pictures and details. SO helpful! Maybe enlist Grandma if you need help. 😊 Also, Jana, I love that you are prioritizing the relationship to God and not self. YES. What a wonderful and Biblical perspective. ❤
I love this video. I'm over here answering yall. Lol I'm with Jana.... I LOVE green beans. I'm a weirdo. I love them straight from the garden, straight from the can(cold or hot), and frozen is a fun tasty treat in the summer. I'm not good with the "selfcare" it feels so selfish. I'm happy to have 5 minutes in the quiet of my barn, watching my chickens or goats in quiet. I could watch them all day. ❤
On the preheating oven thing, you can set the oven to turn on at a certain time than it'll be preheated when you get home to pop your food in. I've done that before.
I freeze green beans from our garden, then saute them in a cast iron pan with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder, until they have a nice brown crisp... we love them that way!
I think slow living is the opposite of FOMO.... bringing those 2 things together. I used to be an extreme people pleaser with awful FOMO. Now well into my 40s I've learned the freedom of saying no so that the most important things are prioritized. Not every good thing is a God thing.
Amen!!! Some are choosing the lie of the enemy over Faith in God-Trusting Him to lead you always! I choose to seek what God wants me to do over seeking answers from others.
Please do an entire episode on “self care” and how it really isn’t as amazing as people on social media make it out to be. I do feel like it it actually doesn’t help with mental health all of the time and I do feel like people use it as an excuse these days.
What do you mean by that? When I think of self care I think of simple things like taking time to relax, take a nice bath, spend time in nature, going for a long walk, listening to music that makes me feel peaceful, making extra time for hobbies. Self care is not synonymous with being self obsessed
My husband is a mental health therapist and he does not like the phrase "self care". It is not a substitute for real help and just a popular phrase to describe self indulgences.
@@laurenj.5312 I agree! I am a Transformational Life Coach and I specialize in helping women, primarily stay at home moms and those with PTSD. What I have learned, is that most often, "self care" is a "last resort" or a "bandaid for when the circumstances can't be changed" or it follows trauma or injury. Women so often just power through because we tell ourselves we have to, or we find someone very different from our true self and we attempt to model after them. Hello social media influencers!! 😂. And when we do this, we essentially set ourselves up TO fail, knowing we probably WILL fail, but we " want a model" " need a model" because we've been taught from little girl up, " you need to find a good role model" followed by " be a good role model". A daily shower is not self care, it's good hygiene. Spending time doing something you enjoy that fills your cup is not self care, it is simply tending to your personal needs. We need to break the barriers and get really real and raw with ourselves and stop the pride of being martyrs who " need" "self care" .
Used to work at Ruth's Chris. If I recall correctly, there once was a Chris steakhouse and Ruth aquired it so it became Ruth's Chris. She just put her name in front of his on the sign haha. Then it became a chain and it stuck! I agree- it is still a terrible name. But super yummy food.
Interesting… I’m not on social media so many of these ideas/trends seem foreign to me! I would LOVE to see you in Sarasota Megan - I’ll be there in February! One of the perks of homeschooling. Lol
Being a mom of a son with autism there's lots of things that I had to learn and will still need to, but I'm amazed the way God helps me and I am so grateful. A semi fly small thing that's really a big thing is telling him the exact order things are in. I found I couldn't say we'll go outside but I need to do the dishes first. I have to say dishes then outside. I think when he reaches young adult age and romance and all the things, we don't know how they'll go yet.
I understand what you are saying about taking care of your mental health, but also not making it like an idol. I feel like that can easily slip slide into selfishness because human beings are flawed. I definitely think that there has to be a balance.
Megan- I would love a pdf/sheet of your workout suggestions. I always turn on RUclips, but want to write down some of those things to do when away from home. Such a good idea!!
QUESTION for all the lovely ladies viewing this: Since we all love Megan and Jayna, do you have any recommendations of similar ladies sitting and doing a podcast? I could listen to Megan and Jayna talk all week long, but it’s only twice a month 😅 Who else are you guys loving to listen to that have a similar vibe for days that I’m all caught up on Honey I’m Homemaker?
I love to make green beans this way: fill a little pot with fresh green beans, a few tablespoons of butter and some fresh grated garlic. put a lid on and let it steam in the butter. it tastes like the green beans from a Chinese buffet.
Sorry if someone else has already commented this, but Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is because it used to be called Chris Steakhouse and someone named Ruth took it over. That’s what I’ve heard anyway!!!
No Jayna… not everyone is good at prioritising.. I’ve been a mum due 19 years almost and still get overwhelmed by all the things I need to do! I’m also a single mum… but now so that adds to the stress and overwhelm. But I also used to be a teacher and even struggled with the same issue then. I have heard it’s an ADHD or ADD thing… which I wonder if I may have…
HELP!! Sleep training is trending?!?!? I think that is THE WORST idea ever!! Your child was literally inside you for 9 months!! Tight, warm space. Now they're supposed to soothe themselves in this cold sterile bed? Does anyone even UNDERSTAND child development?!?!?
There is another girl on RUclips that does that and she never went to college (so didn't learn Child Development). She got married right out of her parents house, but they are so popular on YT (She and her husband) because they are super good looking and have like 5 kids. This was ages ago, but they raved about it. But I don't even have kids, so I can't imagine.
Are you serious you said , pray that others don’t go to Florida !!?? …. Why don’t you pray for them that they can go and enjoy a vacation ! And be happy for them ! …. Ya learn to not think you have to WIN and be the best and on top all the time .
I was also pleasantly surprised by matcha! I was worried it'd taste too grassy, but it didn't to me. I also liked that it didn't make me feel jittery like coffee can.
