This was such an interesting watch! I’m not a Norse pagan myself, however I like to educate myself on different types of paganism and I really loved your advice by the end of the video about fighting racism, homophobia etc.✊🏻🩷
I'm by no means a beginner, having practiced some form of Norse paganism for over a decade now, and this video is right on point!! I wish I had something like this when I was starting out, so thank you for providing this resource to newcomers! Esp re:not trying to find the rules. I'm a perfectionist so starting out I was always trying to find a set of instructions or just doing what others did. Do not be afraid of trial and error! See what works in your practice and what doesn't. It is just that-a practice. And concerning the disgusting nazis, yes please be louder!! Reclaim our beliefs from them! Make sure you research and do not buy books or materials from those people! There are a lot of them, but you can find lists online of who to avoid in the space.
As a queer, nonbinary soul who has been drawn to this type of belief ( but never fully understood until just recently) I am so broken hearted to know that it has such a terrible reputation. In my life in general I have made great strides to be more loud about everything. I appear as fem presenting and I am married to someone who is a cis male, so hiding in plain sight would be easy for me to do. But through encouragement from all that is moving me through this life I have gone to great lengths to make sure I am not in hiding. If someone dislikes or hates me on sight, I wear it as a badge of honor. I am so grateful to have come across your channel in my searching. I am early on in this particular part of my journey and while it feels a bit overwhelming your videos have made an impact on me and I thank you for that. I will grow to be even louder as time goes on!!
Hello! I am a black American Norse Pagan, still new and still finding my way. I discovered your channel earlier today and have already listened to three or four videos. I just want to say THANK YOU.😊
although i'm not a norse pagan and have no interest in being one, i still watch you because your so knowledgeable and your voice is so friendly. i implement most of your teachings into my work and interpretation of the craft because your advice and knowledge make things easier and effective. your energy always brightens mine and you're just... so great. 😊
Even as someone who isn't on the Norse Paganism path, I really enjoyed this video. I feel like many of these tips can be used in other types of practices as well, ESPECIALLY the "just do. It doesn't need to be perfect".
When I started my journey honoring the gods the spirits and my ancestors I was so overwhelmed but in time it became comfortable and everything fell into place in my life. Great video as always glad to learn new things or brush up on things I knew already keep up the great work and may the gods always smile upon u and the entire community here. Cant wait to see more.
Yeah I feel like your mention at 10:40 of Norse Paganism reminds me of cunning people. Like everyone’s practice was their own, because it basically was the way of using their individual environment. That’s a great point thank you!
Ive been trying to get into norse paganism for a while now but just have been preoccupied with school and other issues but I did my best to include small things like trying to feel for energies while walking to places/through the forest or just sitting with my beliefs. It has helper me a lot to internalize my beliefs even if I dont have the capacity to get into the practice at the moment and I remember making a small jewelry offering a while ago and it just made me feel so happy and connected to my beliefs. I'm very glad to have a video like this to give me some starting points to incorporate more practices into my life
the same thing happens in America with indigenous religious practice, non native folks try to put all native culture into one monolithic religion. Like everyone wants to use smudging bundles from the white sage that grows in California. Guess what indians from the east coast didn't use that as their sage, they used the local artemesia species. what one tribe used as tobacco (smoking mix) may not have been what another tribe used - different plants were used in smoking mixes.
That happens with a lot of practices. I see it a LOT with German folk magic practices, too. The different areas of Germany are very different from each other, as is their folk magic, yet people throw all of them into the same pot. Sad 🥲
I'm new at trying to understand Norse Paganism. I was always hesitant with the existence of deities. I grew up under jehovah witness studies, and when i hit my teens, I got distant. I started to feel hatred towards religions, questioning people's mentality and questioning life as a whole. Then i learned about paganism and it made me question again for years. But within the last couple months of 2024. It got stronger, to the point that i love researching it, listening to the music, trying to understand it all. I then decided that i wanted to become norse pagan for New Year's. A new beginning and i feel so different already. I feel more calm and free. Ive been having this urge to connect with the goddess Hel. I had a dream a couple days ago about her. I felt fear at first, but then calmness and comfort. And I want to thank her for opening my eyes. And I cant wait to learn more ❤
Thank you. ❤ i love the last tips. I've been interested in Animism, but it didn't feel right. I do have quite a bit of native american blood, but was raised so far from that. I have had some Shamanic training and this reassures me how this path puts it all together. Thank you for reassuring me I can speak about this. I've wanted to, but have not felt like I could, being such a beginner in comparason to a lot of others that talk about it. Yes! 👍 Such bull!
3:57 Yes! Once I made a poppet of Odin and posted in a community group, I had a lot of positive feedback but there were quite a few people who say “you shouldn’t make poppets of the gods” or “don’t make voodoo poppets of gods.” When it wasn’t even a voodoo poppet nor I practice voodoo as a white person. they also said he didn’t sacrifice his right eye, when it was never specify what eye was sacrifice and there are depictions of Odin with just his left eye. That I shouldn’t belong in the group because I posted it not realizing poppets especially straw poppets were a common Scandinavian tradition. Plus I included Odin’s wings on his head it looked like horns but it wasn’t and some people said it was the devil 😐. I don’t know if some pagan groups didn’t really deconstructed a lot of Christian ideals or they just don’t like magic. Surprisingly there is pagans who don’t like magic or witchcraft.
I never thought of making a poppet or doll for the gods. I made one for myself for protection. I did it with crochet though. Added a little piece of paper with what I wanted out of it and some crystals inside. Now I need to see what colors I need. 🤣
its commonly suggested that odin gave his left eye in a lot of things ive seen which makes sense because he wouldnt give up his dominant eye if he had the choice

Actually this is so refreshing. I just worship Freya to be fair. It's been ages and I feel very comfortable just with her. 😅 We got a get chemistry that I never found in anywhere else. And this kinda got me into problems with Norse Pagan community. Seems I'm not pagan enough
That’s weird because we literally have sagas about people who apparently worshipped mainly or maybe even exclusively one deity… so why would people have a problem with that? 😅
@TheNorseWitch I guess some people think they 'know' what they are talking about, or simply they will just get a motive to hate on you. Anyways loving your new content ✨️♡ May Raidho guide your journey, Ansuz inspire your voice, and Sowilo bring light to your path 🌿

10:20 let's remember not even abrahamic religions are that monolithic! for example, christianity has at least 20 denominations, and worship vastly changes depending on the region, the translation of the holy text, even syncretization! this is just how belief systems work because people are different just as their environments and cultures are different. great video as always!
For sure!! And the different types of Christianity or Islam (I don’t know about Judaism) can be so DRASTICALLY different! I think if anything I would always only see one specific branch of Christianity as a monolith, not overall Christianity…
The gods are intelligent and can see a lot more than we can. If you’re new to witchcraft in any form and you want to work with a god, they won’t punish you just for being new and trying things out for the first time :) Take your time, find compassion for yourself, and if a god doesn’t like something, they’ll let you know in whatever ways work best. I work with Hekate, and even now, she’s never punished me for trying new things. Take comfort in the fact that gods want what’s best for you. Also if a god doesn’t want to work with you, they have a reason for it. Just keep trying, the gods love us no matter what.
Thanks for the great video ❤ And I have a silly question. I named my cat Loki before I got interested in paganism and working with deities. Do you think it’s disrespectful or inappropriate to name a pet after a god? 😅 Should I ask Loki for permission..? 🤷♀️
For actual short reference books to start from and that actually has sources any books from Morgan Daimler (they have also written on Irish Pagan faith which makes sense since the viking invasions of Ireland) Ed to start figuring out things. for yourself
I think the term you meant is monotheistic, not monolithic (lithic means stone) other than that I agree with everything you said. I learned quite, research is something I enjoy, finding things that resonate with me that I can then put into practice. This video also made me realize that I've been practicing animism my whole life
Ah. Cool, didn't mean any disrespect just thought it was a snafu but now I see the cleverness of it, not something that is set in stone. Thank you for the clarification.
@@TheNorseWitch I'm a native English speaker and I can't speak my own language half the time! My dad gets angry, but this is how it's always been, language is meant to evolve shift, change just as nature does! CHEERS!
I’m curious if you’ve read the way of fire and ice, what your opinions on the book are, and if you seen/heard of the classes they offer through their fellowship website?
i have yet to buy a norse pagan book as i am so scared of the ideas of white supremacy that ppl confuse norse paganism with:( i’ve been worshipping Freyja for years tho and she’s a wonderful goddess for beginners i feel
@morningstarproduction3734 Sadly there’s no talking about Norse paganism without addressing WS and racism. And yes, I literally mentioned it as a seperate point in the end of the video 🤭
So by the sounds of it I guess I was right about being eclectic. For Norse/Germanic I only worshipped Hel/Hela as a goddess for ancestor worship. I also worshipped Eris and Bast among a few other Theoi so I was truly eclectic. But now after doing lots of lightwork with spirits I have decided to go atheistic with working with the goddesses for at least now. I honour them. I acknowledge their existence, I even speak with them. But I don't really actively work or worship them anymore. I dismantled my altars and I skipped quite a few rituals I usually did in a year. This is for my own happiness and the goddesses seem to be okay with it.
@TheNorseWitch yeah i wordsed that wrong lol i mean more like how a japanese or dutch person would aproach faith. You basically belief but sont do anything with it.
At almost 50 I've finally allowed myself to open up to being a norse pagan. Was brought up loosely under the church. Never felt right, always felt wrong, out of place, uncomfortable. Noticed the hypocrisy and misogynism early on. But one thing I know that doesn't make sense, is that if you're going to believe in a creator(s) of any kind, you infer that blacks, lgtbq etc, were also CREATED alongside you. They are meant to be here as much as you are. And by here, I mean existing in this universe, on this planet, in this life. To have any kind of racism, or bigotry or misogyny is to refute any belief in a creator(s) by simple definition. You would be acknowledging that you are not actually a part of any group of powers to be.
I'm wondering on worshipping animal dieties like fenris. I don't find much about people worshipping them or working with them hardly. Would they be considered dieties or gods.?
I just wanted to ask you a small question. I’m thinking about beginning to practice Norse Paganism. But I’m not legally an adult in my country. In your opinion do you think it’s alright for me to begin practicing?
Sure, as long as you’re living with family that is accepting of it, sure! What I wouldn’t do if I were you is start practicing it if there’s ANY risk of your family not accepting it and kicking you out! That wouldn’t be worth it. Maybe drop the idea with them and see what they think ☺️
@ thank you for your advice! I think my family would be fine with it but I’m going to ask them. I love your channel it’s been super helpful and informative.
About what exactly? Which the primary sources are? Or about why they’re not the best? XD I have a video on sources in general and lots of them are primary sources
@@TheNorseWitch I guess I'm looking for which sources are the best. I know about the Eddas and Sagas, but what other sources are the best? I'll look through all of your book reviews.
20:33 yes!!! 🙌 ❤❤🎉 these morons who use this to make their points are conveniently ignoring the fact that these people were trading all over Europe and even onto the silk roads and into a lot of Muslim countries, there were accounts of black Vikings as the people they traded with also came to them and then became a part of their villages etc, it wasn’t a load of just white skinned people who just refused to integrate with any other people, they were cultural magpies who took and traded the things they liked with others and weren’t afraid to marry into those cultures too, and unfortunately took slaves from those places too but again we now know better, but these people are seriously just cherry picking mostly nazi twisted drivel as the nazis mostly got it all wrong too and were twisting it to fit what they wanted and they just take the demented parts of their take on the Vikings and stuff and making it what they want, it’s so ridiculous that in almost 2025 now this is still a thing 🤦♀️💔 I’m sure the Gods would rather have good hearted people who are loyal and want to help and are still keeping their names alive so long after they might have easily died out than some disgusting bigots or racists etc who have hate in their hearts and just conveniently invoke the names of the Gods to explain their own beliefs and unfortunately their actions sometimes too but 🤷♀️❤️
Very educational video. Not sure where i fit in at the end. I personally could careless what your sexual orientation is. If your a good person that will show and if your not so good. You won't be able to hide it. But I'd say the respect needs to go both ways. I've seen racists, but I've also seen people saying they are LGBTQ+ and attack there brothers or sisters over pronouns. Be you without the need to tear others down. Skal
@ understandable! I believe I’ve recently been reached out to by Loki and I’m new to.. all things pagan and thought maybe your shop might give me insight and/or offerings.

Do you have any videos talking about the primary sources?
About what exactly? Which the primary sources are? Or about why they’re not the best? XD I have a video on sources in general and lots of them are primary sources
@@TheNorseWitch I guess I'm looking for which sources are the best. I know about the Eddas and Sagas, but what other sources are the best? I'll look through all of your book reviews.
@@TheNorseWitch For some reason I just saw your response now. I'll take a look through your videos. I'm more wondering which sources are "the best".
Hell yes! I love your punk attitude. Be loud!
20:33 yes!!! 🙌 ❤❤🎉 these morons who use this to make their points are conveniently ignoring the fact that these people were trading all over Europe and even onto the silk roads and into a lot of Muslim countries, there were accounts of black Vikings as the people they traded with also came to them and then became a part of their villages etc, it wasn’t a load of just white skinned people who just refused to integrate with any other people, they were cultural magpies who took and traded the things they liked with others and weren’t afraid to marry into those cultures too, and unfortunately took slaves from those places too but again we now know better, but these people are seriously just cherry picking mostly nazi twisted drivel as the nazis mostly got it all wrong too and were twisting it to fit what they wanted and they just take the demented parts of their take on the Vikings and stuff and making it what they want, it’s so ridiculous that in almost 2025 now this is still a thing 🤦♀️💔 I’m sure the Gods would rather have good hearted people who are loyal and want to help and are still keeping their names alive so long after they might have easily died out than some disgusting bigots or racists etc who have hate in their hearts and just conveniently invoke the names of the Gods to explain their own beliefs and unfortunately their actions sometimes too but 🤷♀️❤️
What does upg stand for?
Unverified personal Gnosis. So essentially personal experiences and beliefs that aren’t verified by sources or other people ☺️
@TheNorseWitch thank youu!! I was trying to figure it out the whole video 💀💀
Skal
✨🤟🌀❤️🔥👁️🪬✨ thank youuuuu💜
Hi, what happened to your shop?
I closed it because the amount of taxes I had to pay on my profit made it so insanely unprofitable I decided to spare myself the work
@ understandable! I believe I’ve recently been reached out to by Loki and I’m new to.. all things pagan and thought maybe your shop might give me insight and/or offerings.
I'm an animist. 😂❤
Lets all say it together now: no frith with fascists. Ever.
So say we all
