      I think the trick to this tool working, is the proper introduction and training both dog and human so they are on the same page. Tom is teaching the owners consistency too. This dog is beautiful and does not show any signs of pain or discomfort, yet responds when given a command. How much better could it be for dogs and owners? The tears of joy are the best! I still have my wonderful Cane Corso mix because of an e collar. She decided to go on a chicken killing spree. If I could have reached her for a correction, I would have. I couldn't and she knew it. Two mild corrections with the e collar she never did it again. We also use it on our elderly, deaf dog. When she started to lose her hearing, I would vibrate the collar, call her and as soon as she looked at me, I gave her a treat. She can't hear me call her anymore but if I vibrate the collar, she immediately looks for me! Living on a small acreage, it's important the dogs respond when called.

    You get a dog, imagining all of the wonderful adventures you’ll be going on together! Then your dog exhibits aggressive and non-compliant behavior and now Fido watches out the window, alone, wondering why they can’t be with you. Along comes Tom Davis with how to better communicate acceptable behavior to Fido, and now you can take your dog on even-better-than-imagined adventures. I totally get why she’s crying. Thank you Tom Davis!!

    I love that you address the fact that a higher level on the e collar IS uncomfortable for the dog, but that one second of discomfort is OKAY and worth it in order to save your dogs life or just be able to give them more freedom. So many FF people will die on the hill of “dogs should never experience pain/discomfort/etc” yet refuse to take into account how limited that discomfort is when training with an e collar or prong or other aversive tool (when done properly). My high prey drive dog gets a ton of freedom thanks to the e collar, and she is a much happier and more fulfilled dog with the e collar in her life.

  • @Lostkingscastle
    @Lostkingscastle 2 года назад +4

    I absolutely agree with all he's saying about the e-collar. I used to think they were horrible, cruel, and to never use one. I have a shiba mix that I could never get to listen to me. Not even with treats. For three years, I felt a disconnect with my dog. Because she isn't food motivated, it was impossible to teach her any sort of recall, or even to sit on command because she just didn't care enough to do it. She would ignore us when we asked for any behavior, and she would just run out the door as soon as she saw an opportunity to dash. I had two different trainers look at me and say "you're dog should never been off leash, even in the house.", because that was the only thing that could possibly stop her from dashing off. Luckily I came across Tom's video's and slowly warmed up to the idea. Now she and I have a bond so much closer and she can go for off leash hikes in high distraction areas with a perfect recall, all thanks to Tom's education and an E-Collar. Thank you so much for all you do Tom. Thank you for teaching owners how to strengthen the bond between man and thier best friend.

Yet still, the moment I unclipped the leash she was off and I had zero recall. 3 weeks of solid e collar conditioning and now I have 100% confidence she will come back. I rarely have to use the boost button, and when I do she comes flying back and you can almost see her saying "sorry mum, I was coming back, honest!". The ecollar saved my relationship with her and gave her daily freedom off leash to explore and run. They are brilliant when used this way.

    This was very helpful, for some reason the small distance reps has been something i haven't tried. I am hoping this will help my Husky develop a good association with the E Collar. Thanks again Tom for all the awesome content, only trainer I watch and trust the information because it comes from a place of love for our 4 legged friends.

    I have learned a lot from watching this channel. I don't have a dog yet but watching these will help prepare me once I do get a pup of my own. The use of the remote collar you discuss and how you educate clients and us on it's use is wonderful. I am considering yours when I do get a pup as a tool. Keep up the good work!

    I learn so much from Tom’s training videos, including how body language is communication with your dog. I have been training a golden retriever who is behaved, but STILL learn ways in which I can communicate more effectively in training. I have also seen through his videos, the importance of REPETITION. Repetition and consistency play a huge role in training and you see this first hand in all of Tom’s videos! Thanks so much!

    Great video as always. I have a very reactive pup and I've been trying to convince the husband that an e-collar is not a shock collar. I think we need one and I feel our girl would benefit more with one. I feel so bad seeing her so stressed and barking at the slightest sound or someone passing the house. Hopefully I can make him watch this and your explanation.

    Umm easy, I liked within the first few seconds of starting the video haha.
    Tom, I have to say, while watching the video I was thinking about how awesome it is that you take all the time (the dog owner) needs to understand your perspective on what an e collar is. You don't just jump into it, you give the apprehensive or untrained owner confidence and peace of mind to understand the equipment before putting it on the dog. You have outstanding patience.
    Even I learned just from watching your videos that the e collar is an amazing tool that A LOT of people do not understand and can be a great way to strengthen your relationship with your dog. I aspire to be like you! When I discovered your videos, dog training became a whole new ballpark to me. It truly is an art. Thank you.

    Tom great video, as usual. Learning a lot from your video's so I'm able to train my belgian malinois that's now 5 months old. Definitely am going to get an ecollar once he understands the commands better because you never can be 100% sure when they're off leash!
    Keep up the great work!

    • @robertbaelen7656
      @robertbaelen7656 2 года назад

      Jez. You have the wrong mindset. Your dog is 5 m old hasn't showed yet how thrustworthy he is, and you are talking to use tools because they are fancy or whatever. Train your dog to the max. Maybe you never need a leash or even a flatcollar. I only put a leash on my dogs because of the law. Otherwise they behave correct and there is no distraction that can lure them into fault. But you have to train them. Tsst From an old trainer in Belgium near Malinois.

    • @jezzika7454
      @jezzika7454 Год назад

      @@robertbaelen7656 you made a lot of assumptions there man. I never said I was going to use it when he was 5 months old, nor have I said I wasn't training him. Yet you seem to be under the impression that I have the wrong mindset. He's now 12 months old, behaves like a champ, listens really well and is reliable. That being said; there is absolutely never 100% guarantee that one day he doesn't really feel like coming to me instead of the rabbit he just saw skipping by and I'd rather have that bit of extra certainty of a remote leash than to watch my dog be hit by a car or whatever. But you do you boo

Ive noticed in alot of your videos, its not the dogs(they're just confused or needs direction) its the owners who need confidence and training.
