For that kind of riding--I'd choose that 690 @ 100 lbs. lighter any day over the T7. Qudos to the guy riding the T7 through that terrain! When he tipped it over at that creek crossing, I thought "man, now you need to pick up that nearly 500 lbs! Bummer!"
@@Desert2snowoffwego I’m the t7 guy! It’s actually not horrible to pick up most the time. 445lbs without luggage. But I would tend to agree, if I was going to recommend a bike to someone who’s main criteria was a mid displacement bike to carry luggage and ride tight single track the 690/701 platform is the more practical way to go. You can see in a few of those tight corners Scott has a way easier time than I do. Cracking the throttle open on the twin tickles my brain in just the right way though, I don’t know if I could switch to a thumper. The t7 is kind of the ideal do-it-all bike. It’s capable enough to hang on the tight stuff with some extra effort, it’s big enough to pull long highway days with a little discomfort. It NEVER breaks down *coughktmcough*. It’s just such a fun platform.
that tire sent me to the hospital. never run anything but knobbies now. why not there are so many good ones these days
Scott rode south through the entirety of Washington and Oregon before we hit up Unrally the bdr on the way north and didn’t want to go deaf along the way, or wear a knobby completely out before hitting dirt. It was a nice handicap with him on the 690, I was actually able to keep up most the time haha.
He also had a knobby waiting for him at the Touratech rally, then we had no hope of keeping up
