Loved it 🥰 I can see what you were saying about acclimatisation in my mind I thought of staying 5 days in Cusco just for this purpose prior to be able to do the big things afterwards I hope it’s all ok for you right now and that you can enjoy it all fully Take Care Sabrina 🇫🇷🇬🇧 🦙 ☹️ 🥩 ‼️Please No 🐹 🙏🏼
That jumper you bought is so beautiful, I would like to buy one too! I don’t know why I got dizzy when I saw the mouse on the menu! Alpacas are so cute, they look like rag dolls! It was great to see the beautiful city, Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire in the past. Thank you very much for sharing! 👍🥰👏
By the time you read this, you will most likely have already made it to Machu Picchu, so what I have to say will be moot for you. However, anyone else reading this may benefit if they travel to the region in the future. Since altitude sickness is most common for tourists in Cusco, it is best not to stay there the first night, but rather at the end of a stay in the Andes. To lower your chance of getting altitude sickness, it is best to immediately travel into the relatively nearby lower elevations of the Urubamba Valley and stay in towns like Urubamba, Pisac, or Ollantaytambo where there are many incredible things to experience on the way to Machu Picchu. I have learned this the hard way after studying the area several times with fellow anthropologists. 🤒🤒
Interesting. So if I land in Lima and wish to spend a few days in the Cusco region, I should stay in Ollantaytambo for a night or 2 and then explore Cusco?
@@porfiriato84 I would recommend you staying 2 days in the city of Arequipa and take a plane for Cusco. It would help you to acclimate and as there are several things to do in Arequipa it wouldn't be a waste of time spending some time there.
Peru is the very top of my bucketlist! Hopefully next year. I want one of those wooly llama sweaters so bad they are adorable. Can’t wait for the next video!
Hubby and I were in Perú in July 2019. We stayed for 3 weeks. You guys said you will be going to climb a mountain. I’m sure you guys are going to the Rainbow Mountain. ❤️❤️❤️ I was beyond sick when trekking it. The altitude is crazy. Perú is magical. I’m sure you’ll be going to Machu Pichu. We walked 3 hours from Hidroelectra to Aguascalientes. It was a beautiful walk. ❤️
Great video - thank you both. I love Cusco…was there in May. I feel for you with the altitude sickness. I was congested with allergies in Lima and then starting feeling the effects of a stomach bug the night before flying to Cusco. By the time I arrived in Cusco I wasn’t feeling well at all - being dehydrated and congested caused a case of altitude sickness. Since I was going to on the Salkantay trek in a few days I realized I needed to have it sorted. So saw a Dr. who put me in a clinic for 24 hours, rehydrated me and I recovered from the stomach bug. After that, I was fine…and did the trek…but the thinness of the oxygen at those altitudes and higher are no joke. I often felt winded. But, the Andes are magnificent and Peru is a fabulous country…highly recommend a visit if people are up for a bit of a real adventure.
Enjoyed your video of Cusco. When I was there a few years ago I was not able to spend much time there. I do remember the day I arrived there Peru was playing Colombia in a World Cup qualifier. When I went to the square to have dinner it was packed. They had a large screen TV set up and everyone was watching the game and going crazy. It was great. One thing to point out when traveling to Machu Picchu and Aguas Caliente is to make sure you bring a poncho or rain coat. I remember when waiting in the various lines for the bus and buying tickets it rained a lot. This was in October. Fortunately someone was selling ponchos there and I was able to buy one standing in line. Thanks again and enjoy your trip.
O Peru tem muitos lugares lindos pra visitar. Fui pra lá esse ano e a experiência foi incrível. Aproveitei e fiz até um vídeo e postei no canal, de tão lindo que é a região dos Andes.
Wowza such a beautiful place! When I had elevation sickness one day we walked up many steps to see a church and view over the town. I felt very puffed out then but later that day I was very sick with vomiting and diarrhea and headache. I couldn't eat anything only resting I felt a little better the next day. Rest one day then go exploring and I felt sick again 😢 I didn't feel good again until we traveled lower again The rest of our trip I was careful to check elevation before visiting a town. This video was awesome thanks for letting us come with you 😊
This video made me super nostalgic. I loved Cusco. When I’m fed up and want to pack a bag and jump on a plane, it’s Cusco that’s in my head as the place I’ll go haha. I’m embarrassed to tell you the McDonalds is in the main square very well disguised. It took me ages to find it but it was 12 years ago and I needed the WiFi plus they have Inca kola on tap 😂. You guys are great. Living the dream.
Almost there to Macchu Picchu! Excited for you guys as I was 7 years ago. Cusco is lovely, I love how the dogs congregate in the plaza and went to their respective homes in the evening, I saw a documentary about that. I so missed the place❤️
If I was there I’d probably be using my FitBit device to count my steps, you guys seem to put in a good amount of miles in your travels plus the fact that you’re both healthy really helps.👍👍 Hope Carol feels better …
Nice market, love the jumper and it was very cheap. You would pay 150-200 $ for a jumper like that in the tourist shops here in Norway. Crazy 😏 Thank you for showing this beautiful area in Peru. I see on the map that you are not far from Machu Picchu. Are you going there? Take care ♥♥
Chris & Carol: Congratulations to you guys to heads Cusco, Peru this gone weekend to shows some of these historical Landmarks & Places in South America 2023❤❤❤
I lived in lake Tahoe in the 80's and never felt altitude sickness. Went there last month and had jet lag and altitude sickness for 2 days. It gets worse the older u get
A timely video for me. I expect to be in Peru in January or early February. Stopping off in Belize, Guatemala, Cuba and Ecuador first. Enjoyed the information you shared.
I was in Cusco for a week a few years ago. I never got used to the altitude the whole time. In Lima I could walk for hours, in Cusco I was exhausted after an hour.
Chris & Carol: Welcome to Cusco, Peru this gone weekend to shows these amazing places in the city October of 2023❤❤❤I am waiting for your next video soon this new week 2023❤❤❤
Love Cusco! Noticed the altitude as soon as I stepped off the airplane. They told us not to go to the market so of course we went directly to the market. Amazing! Like concentrated coffee?
Hiya. Chris and Carol. Happy Monday. Bless you both. I was going to say. You look a little under the weather. Chris. Two days is still long enough to feel like that. Bless Carol. Beautiful place. Lovely drone footage. The wall. Looks amazing. So old. Lovely jumper. You are great to eat and try new things. That is not good that you both had headaches. Love the natural slides. Never seen anything like that. I do not blame Carol. I thought she was brave to go up front to start with. Always informative. As I always say. The best tour guides around any destination. Beautiful views. Always enjoy the drone footage. Imagine having to take your shopping up to your home up those steps. Gorgeous views while eating. Love seeing the parade. I think everywhere in the world. Tourism has been affected. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful week.
I just stumbled by accident about the Peru videos of your channel. I watch a lot other youtuber travellers. But I have to say, I love your natural and yet informative way of storytelling very much. Muito obrigado por mais esse vídeo incrível! Achei a cidade muito bonita... As igrejas, as ruas e as cores! Desejo que vocês continuem fazendo uma ótima viagem!
Great video! You took me to places I never went when I was there in 2002. Sorry you got altitude sickness. I hope the coca leaves helped. I've never had altitudes sickness, even at 14,000 feet. I wonder why some people get it and others don't. It looks like Cuzco is still a great city.
Chris & Carol: Welcome to Cusco, Peru this gone weekend to tours many remarkable places & Landmarks in October of 2023❤❤❤I wish you guys the BEST always in peace 2023❤❤❤
Chris & Carol: Thanks you so much for this new remarkable video about Cusco,Peru to shows these amazing places especially the “Jesus Christ Statue” in South America in October of 2023❤❤❤I am waiting for your next remarkable video soon this week from Peru 2023❤❤❤
I was a bit nervous about trying alpaca but as it turned out, I preferred the lomo saltado with alpaca meat even more than the beef version (both were excellent).
Carol I asked my doctor what I could add to my “travel medicine cabinet” for food poisoning. She recommended ginger chews/candy. She said it may help with the nausea.
6:45: That's where my tour guide joked that the Incas built this wall, and the other one across that was made by the Incapables, as you can see the big difference 😁 I love Cusco so much. It was more packed with people when I was there 5 years ago. It is hard to cope with the high altitude, I hope you adjusted quickly. Can't wait to see your next video in Sacred Valley. Pisac and Ollantaytambo are both incredible sights to behold.
I love Cusco and the Sacred Valley!! I found it to be totally mind blowing walking around the ancient sites. The coca leaves do really help imho. As a chef I loved seeing all the different colours of potatoes in the local markets! Happy Travels
6:54- Did you see how tightly those huge stones were put together? The Incas knew how to build structures with gigantic carved stones fitted together SO perfectly that one can't put knife blades between them even centuries later despite no steel tools or mortar AND they're earthquake proof! Oh, and they somehow did it despite having no wheels or even pack animals larger than the alpaca or llama. BTW, in Spanish the double L is considered a single letter and pronounced 'y'. Hence they pronounce llama 'YAH-mah' almost identical to the Japanese car called Yamaha but without the last laugh whereas 'lama' with a regular L means a Tibetan monk! Interestingly, too, is the fact that the Incas had no written language but communicated very detailed instructions, commands and messages using a complicated system of coded knots carried back and forth by human runners that were considered SO sacred that anyone believed to have tampered with them were automatically executed! I hope Miss Carol feels better soon with and overcomes the food poisoning and altitude !
It's not it was the capital of the Incan Empire so it's even older than that and many of the structures contain the Incan stonework in their foundations.
Seeing it again brings back memories of my visit there. I remember chewing coca leaves and drinking coca tea constantly to try to alleviate the dull headache of altitude sickness. Although those old ruins are attributed to the Inca, a lot of people think that they're much older.
Top tip if you go to Aguas Caliente, the water flow in the hot springs is pretty small so you better go there in the morning or you might end up sharing the same bath water as a 100 or so other people which may or may not be something you would want. I guess Im one of the lucky ones or perhaps just had a few good days because I didn't feel anything related to altitude when I was in Cusco.
Oh God, this brings back so many nice memories! I arrived in Cusco from Lake Titicaca, so went up in altitude gradually. Still had Altitude Sickness...luckily it got better after Day 2. My highlight was the Archeological Museum- if you can, try and see it. I think one of those beautiful Colonial Buildings on the Main Square was actually a McDonald's 😱! And every time I crossed the Square on my way back to the hotel, I was also offered a "Massage"- but with 'Happy Ending'😂😂
The guide was ride about the sweaters. There made in China and get very fuzzy. We did a few tours in Cusco with many stops at authentic clothes made with the real alpaca wool and they where very expensive. All in all Peru was amazing about the food I feel like Harold bauldr felt meh. Our trip was got short since everything was lock down. Our luck that we had returned back to Lima. Still had to stay extra time in Lima until the Canadian government send 7 planes down to airlifted as out. Canada never looked so good.🥰
You need to go Jack's Café in cusco for breakfast, its so good and its so big, the have pancakes, avocado etc. I went there 2022 july it was great. ANd no food poisioning
I was also very sick of the altitude. I was vomiting and had diarrhea. The diarrhea was due to their bread. It looks like they have loads of gluten in their bread than what I’m accustomed. I’m gluten intolerant. I can eat gluten but a lil piece. In Perú I ate a piece of their bread. I got really sick. My doctor told me that it might be the amount of gluten in their bread. Also I’m lactose intolerant. I can eat anything with dairy.
If I were in Cuzco,I should have a camera full of llamas and walls,I should be wearing a colorful poncho and I d be breathing heavily,, You would get used to it in time,it must be a little uncomfortable, but travellers like you can handle it.Have a nice time.
Great video! It makes us really excited for our trip through Peru in 3 weeks! How safe is it to film/vlog around different places? We've been told to be mindful and careful with our phones/camera. Any recommendations? Thank you
Peru is very unique in terms of climate: tropical in some locations, but cool and pretty much the same tempersture all year around. That's my kind of climate.
Hello, what is the temperature in January as I am going to visit cusco in January 2024 I'm very excited but a little but worried about the altitude I am from England
@@libragirl1991 19-20 degrees C in Cusco. 26-27 and sunny in Lima. January is usually the driest month in Peru, so expect plenty of sun. Also be prepared for altitude sickness in Cusco and Machu Picchu.
This area is the real deal for all stuff alpaca and natural crafts. I would like to visit there and buy some of those warm sweaters. You guys sure picked a good location to visit. Carol please buy some charcoal capsule supplement because taking these will rid your stomach of poison. Hope you can find some and keep them in your luggage for all your travels incase of food poisoning.
ive been to a lot of places now, but cuzco was def one of my favorites. cracks me up every time that they think guinea pig is food. you should totally try the cuy next time though. tastes like chicken.
Great video as always… almost see you guys in person, i ll go to cusco in 10 days😂… how long does it takes to do this saqsayhauman trail? Cant wait for the next videos '¡saludos!
FYI, they are not rocks but stones. A stone is a rock that has a purpose. Just saying. Another great video from the best tour quides in the world. Thanks.
I found your description of the Incan Temple in minutes 13:08 very interesting, as I was just reading about that temple in the writings of Spanish chronicler Pedro Cieza de León. This Spanish chronicler visited Cuzco in 1550 and, at that time, the temple was said to be located about one "harquebus-shot" (a long-gun shot) beyond the north of the city, on a hill. Today, the city has greatly expanded and grown, and, now, the Convent of Santo Domingo occupies its site. Interesting. The people went from worshipping the sun to worshipping the venerated man by all Catholics. In the early 16th century when the Incan ruler ruled the country, virgins (who were avowed to celibacy for their entire lives) were employed in the temple by weaving and dyeing woollen cloth for the service of the temple, as well as in making the alcoholic maize beverage called "chicha." The Spanish chronicler wrote that if one of these girls or women were ever caught having a sexual relationship with a male, she would be buried alive.

I’m gluten intolerant. I can eat gluten but a lil piece. In Perú I ate a piece of their bread. I got really sick. My doctor told me that it might be the amount of gluten in their bread. Also I’m lactose intolerant. I can eat anything with dairy.
The jumper/sweatshirt👌🏾
If I were in Cuzco,I should have a camera full of llamas and walls,I should be wearing a colorful poncho and I d be breathing heavily,,
You would get used to it in time,it must be a little uncomfortable, but travellers like you can handle it.Have a nice time.
Hope one day i can visit peru
When both of you were walking through the cave and Carol asked if you wanted to go further, then replied, I don’t 😅😅 😅
Great video! It makes us really excited for our trip through Peru in 3 weeks! How safe is it to film/vlog around different places? We've been told to be mindful and careful with our phones/camera. Any recommendations? Thank you
Interesting place, amazing video
Cusco is one of those lovely places where living there sucks but going as a tourist is a dream.
Welcome to the Perú 🇵🇪
Peru is very unique in terms of climate: tropical in some locations, but cool and pretty much the same tempersture all year around. That's my kind of climate.
Hello, what is the temperature in January as I am going to visit cusco in January 2024 I'm very excited but a little but worried about the altitude I am from England
@@libragirl1991 19-20 degrees C in Cusco. 26-27 and sunny in Lima. January is usually the driest month in Peru, so expect plenty of sun. Also be prepared for altitude sickness in Cusco and Machu Picchu.
Informative! 😊
Nice!!! Are you planning on going to scandanavian countries like Norway?
Beautiful city
This area is the real deal for all stuff alpaca and natural crafts. I would like to visit there and buy some of those warm sweaters. You guys sure picked a good location to visit. Carol please buy some charcoal capsule supplement because taking these will rid your stomach of poison. Hope you can find some and keep them in your luggage for all your travels incase of food poisoning.

Is it very safe over there? How do you feel? Looks great! Enjoy
FYI, they are not rocks but stones. A stone is a rock that has a purpose. Just saying. Another great video from the best tour quides in the world. Thanks.
❤to go back there but not the high altitude
