Scholar of the First Sin is outright the absolute worst. I don't like base 2, but SoTFS is 90% of what people complain about when it comes to 2, most people who hate 2 had their first and only exposure to 2 through SoTFS where the enemies are mass copy pasted, and they sprinkle mini bosses everywhere, gate areas with petrified people, and otherwise just makes the game really jank.
Ds3 is better technically, but I like 2 more, especially with its dlcs. 1 and 2 feel like expansive worlds that are great to explore with a lot of variety, while 3 is samey and wastes its limited boss list on stuff like the archdragon peak dragon boss, the tree that sits there, and the crystal mage (literally just an enemy being copy pasted like pinwheel). 2 has way more soul than 3. 2 is like the dumber kid trying his best to make something awesome while 3 is like the academic going through the motions and making something completely technical and lifeless.
