@@rl55555 They are. In Modern Europe it can be clearly seen which of the Slavic peoples are Catholic and which are Orthodox - the Orthodox ones adopted the Church Slavonic in the churches, monasteries and the Royal courts as the main liturgical and diplomatic language. With the development of the different peoples came the differences in the languages, which were strongly influenced by the unique dialects of the common folk. The Western Slavic peoples fell under the rule of the Polish and the Austrian empires, which were both Roman Catholic and thus required the gospel to be spoken in Latin. Even after the fall of the Polish Empire the Polish people remained Catholic. Together with the Czechs, Slovaks, Slovenians and Croatians, they use the Latin Alphabet, this indicating their Catholic heritage. There are two deviations of the rule, one of which is an even better evidence of the use of language and religion. The first is Romania, an Orthodox country. Until 1865, the Romanians used the Cyrillic alphabet and the Gospel was spoken in Church Slavonic. However, since then they adopted the Latin alphabet and changed the gospel language into Romanian. The reason is simple - Romanian is a Romantic, not a Slavonic language, and thus the Latin alphabet was adopted to adhere to the Romantic past. The second is a small Bulgarian community in an area between modern day Serbia, Romania and Hungary. In the past it was part of the Austrian and later - Austrian-Hungarian Empire. The area is called Banat. The Banat Bulgarians settled in at the end of the 17th century (after the Chiprovtsi Uprising), became Catholics and adopted the Latin Alphabet. They still use it today and thus Bulgarian actually has two standards - in Cyrillic, which is the main one, and in Latin, used by the Banat Bulgarians.
Replacing old misconceptions with new misunderstandings. Poland will be followed by Slovak, Czechs and Croats will remind everyone that Glagolitic script was brought to them by St. Jerom of Stridon few centuries before the time of the two saints mentioned above.
Well actually Cyrillic is easier to use to write many other European languages as well. For example, Deutsch which is how Germans call themselves & their language, can be written with only 4 letters with Slavic Cyrillic. (The tsch in German takes the ch sound, which is only ONE letter in Cyrillic). Not to mention Cyrillic is designed to be a little more flexible, so if Germans adopted Cyrillic for their language, it's very likely that they can come up with a letter to represent the eu sound (sounding like oi in oil). Which means they can write this word with only, THREE letters instead of SEVEN as of now. Also, many Italian words can be written in Cyrillic easily also. And it'll be a lot less confusing & a lot more straightforward. Try these: pizza, cacio, spaghetti, gnocchi, Parmigiano Reggiano, prosciutto, etc.. (Hard & soft Cs, hard & soft Gs, z stands for ts, using of double consonants, etc. NONE of that is necessary in Cyrillic alphabet, oh and what's the deal with sci to represent what could be represented with a single letter in Cyrillic?). So that's why, politics aside, I just checked, Romanian can be written perfectly in Cyrillic alphabet. The Moldovan as well as the pre-independence (from Ottomans) Romanian Cyrillic alphabets actually make sense. Politics aside of course. And in fact Romanian was first written in Cyrillic too. It wasn't until the 19th century when Romanian nationalists decided to go with Latin alphabets and base mainly on Italian orthography. Although phonology wise it's also pretty smooth of an adaptation (Latin letter based Romanian), by creating a couple of new letters (one for sh and another for ts, by adding a 'tail' to s & t respectively), and using the soft-hard C-G which can be a little confusing. And for other languages, like English & French. Too many vowels? Creating new vowels and 'long semi vowels'? (Like English u in use and French oi which pronounces wa). You know you're not alone right? Cyrillic alphabets have the capacity to represent those sounds with a new, distinct alphabet. (There's one for the /ju/ sound, and for the /wa/ you can create one if you want to. That's how Cyrillic alphabet is meant to be used initially at least). Also because of that the same letters of Cyrillic alphabets sound more or less the same across the languages, because there's not a need to change the spelling rules across languages when you can create new ones. My point here is, hence, adaptation of Cyrillic should not be looked at from a plain Slavic or not perspective. Yes they were created by Slavic ppl but the additional sounds they can represent already exists in many other languages, such as Romance and Germanic languages, or even modern Greek. But only that the classic Latin itself doesn't have those sounds (like sh, ch, zh, j/dzh, etc.) hence that's why Latin script itself needs to be modified a lot to accommodate those sounds (and it's not only Polish or Czech, I mean German, Italian, French, etc. too like I mentioned before). And I think because of the influence of the Roman empire & the catholic church, and the status of CLASSICAL Latin as an 'official' language across the Western Europe (including Poland & Bohemia, etc.) people there are more or less refrained from dramatically altering Latin script such as creating brand new letters. As it might be seen as 'lower class' I guess. And that's how you end up with all those diatrics & diagraphs and 'special letters' that look like and unlike any Latin letter at the same time in not only Polish & Czech, but all other Western European languages as well, as well as different sounds of the same letters across languages, like j, c, x, most of the vowels, as well as even g, z, y, h, etc.
Extremely modestly designed and well-developed art style. Perhaps one of the most impressive historical semiotics introduction video I've seen in a while. Magnificent!
Cyrillic and Old Church Bulgarian language (called Old Church Slavonic as well), from which Russian language had been developed, are the most successful project ever of The First Bulgarian Empire and Bulgarians! Of course, for being honest, we don't have to forget that the contemporary script of Cyrillic is developed first, after a reform made by The Russians during the Peter The great in 18 century, and after that in the beginning of the 20 century after the communist revolution!
Thank you to Bulgaria and Macedonia for creating such a wonderful script! Cyrillic, especially Early Cyrillic, has been my favourite writing system for about a year. Its history, its letters, the message in their names and especially its diversity of ancestor scripts really show that Kliment (and whoever helped him) was thinking outside the box when making the alphabet. - Rodrigo Santos, from Portugal
I don't really think there is such thing as 100% accuracy when speaking about history, but I will say that this is 95% :), there is more info in Wikipedia, and even more if you read Bulgarian
IT IS NOT. Kiril and Metodi were from Solun ( part of Macedonia at that time ) - Today's Thessaloniki ( Part of Greece in present day). That makes them born as Macedonian. St Kliment, who made the Cyrillic and gave it the name by his Teacher ( Kiril) is from Ohrid, Macedonian town ( at that time and today). However, all 4 were traveling trough the Slavic countries in order to translate church books to a language understandable for all Slavic People, but the origin ( start) was from Macedonia.
Latin is full of inconsistency because of the palatalisation of c and g and the i that turned become j and y in Spanish. Hence, you can see that inconsistency in English "c" can be pronounced similar to "k" or "s". "Z" can be pronounced from "z" to "ts". "C" can be pronounced as "k", "ts", "ch" and "j" in various language and many more. While with Cyrillic, you have "ц" will be the same letter for "ts" in any language that uses it and so on. That's the reality, Cyrillic alphabet is the best pair for Slavic languages because it supports consonant weakening that happens largely in Slavic languages. That's why some Slavic languages like Slovak and Czech, they have very much letter, while if they use Cyrillic the number of the letter can be reduced, for example, the letter "d" and "ď " can be written as "д" and "дь" using Cyrillic, the same for "t" and "ť " can be written as "т" and "ть" using Cyrillic. But, this is all because of the religious issue in the past

Nice video, little silly though ;-) In 862 king Rostislav of Nitra (Nitra is the first historicaly documented Slavic kingdom, metropolis of by-modern-historians so-called "Great Moravia") sent a message to the Byzantine Emperor Michael III. with a request to send a bishop and a teacher who would lay the foundations of a church (independent of the Frankish bishops) in Great Moravia (today's western Slovakia and south Moravia). The inhabitants here were already familiar with the church teachings of the missionaries from the East Franconian kingdom at that time, but Prince Rostislav feared the political and religious influence of the East Frankish Empire, and so he had the Frankish priests expelled from Moravia. Thus, there was a lack of clergy in Moravia, and this may have been one of the reasons for Rostislav's request. The Emperor and Patriarch Photius eventually decided to partially comply with Rostislav's request. For knowledge of the language, Constantine and Methodius were chosen for this mission. In the course of preparation, Konstantin compiled a new script (Glagolitic) for the Slavic language and, together with his brother Methodius, translated the liturgical books necessary for worship into Old Slavonic. Konstantin is credited with compiling the Proglas, that is, the preface to the Old Slavonic translation of the Gospels. So (and there) our / your Cyrillic alphabet appeared. It remains a sad fact that later the Franks (today´s Germany and France) were able to impose the Western Catholic rite (and writing) in Slovakia, Moravia, Bohemia and Poland). To call Cyrillic an alfabet that got only 2 letters from Cyrillic alfabet is quite the stretch. To create the Slavonic alfabet they took 2 letters from the Cyrillic alfabet, 31 from an existing nongreek alfabet, that could be seen in archeological artifacts from long before 800AD, and 12 new letters. The Slavic ethnonym (and autonym), Slavs, is reconstructed in Proto-Slavic as *Slověninъ, plural Slověně. The Slavic autonym *Slověninъ is usually considered a derivation from slovo "word", originally denoting "people who speak (the same language)", i. e. people who understand each other, in contrast to the Slavic word denoting "foreign people", namely němci, meaning "mumbling, murmuring people" (from Slavic *němъ "mumbling, mute"). The latter word may be the derivation of words to denote "Germans" or "Germanic peoples" in many later Slavic languages: e. g., Czech Němec, Slovak Nemec, Slovene Nemec, Belarusian, Russian and Bulgarian Немец, Serbian Немац, Croatian Nijemac, Polish Niemiec, Ukrainian Німець, etc. The Slav ethnonym at first denoted the southern group of the early Slavs. This ethnonym is attested by Procopius in Byzantine Greek as Σκλάβοι (Skláboi), Σκλαβηνοί (Sklabēnoí), Σκλαυηνοί (Sklauēnoí), Σθλαβηνοί (Sthlabēnoí), or Σκλαβῖνοι (Sklabînoi),[7] while his contemporary Jordanes refers to the Sclaveni in Latin.[8] In Ancient Greek there are no words with the root sl-, thus the original ethnonym was transformed into skl-, as that root was present (in sklērós, "hard"). In East Church Slavonic manuscripts, the ethnonym is spelt Slověne (Словѣне), such as in the Primary Chronicle, Sofia First Chronicle, Novgorod First Chronicle and Novgorod Fourth Chronicle.[10] In the source dating to 898 included in the Primary Chronicle, the term is used both for East Slavic tribes and more often for a people (in the Kievan Rus' society, alongside Varangians, Chuds and Kriviches). Cyrillic alphabet doesn't have anything with bulgarians, Cyrillic alphabet came from Macedonia and bulgarians just came from the steppes as nomads in that century. Bulgarians didn't even speak our language, they were Tatars until they mixed with Serbs and other Slavic tribes
You barely know the dates it seems. Tatars are mongol people and they came 700 years later. Serbian was one of the tribes that later everyone beared their name in you region but to tell everyone was serbian at first isn't accurate. You barely united into one state in 10th century. The dates you miss: 1. We came 680/681 and mixed with the Seven Slavic tribes in today Wallachia, not your area. 2. Christianisation comes around 855 in Bulgaria and it is with no arguing the first slavic state orthodox church apart of the Byzantine one and get a patriarchate first which start the concept of everyone having one that isn't the one in Constantinopole. 3. You saw the story in the clip, who made what and when. 4. Tell your story to the European Union, politics weren't that strong in 2007 and even then they would be some intellectuals on the topic to object if it was wrong. EU isn't that dumb to proclaim such things when they don't really enjoy dealing with Balkan states. 5. Quiet down your pride as we like to tell " The world is Serbia."
That’s what your fake country want you to think. The bulgars mixed with the slavs. And Macedonia was part of our countries. You are just brainwashed Bulgarians who think that they created the Cyrillic. It’s lies. Your language is dialect of ours. You copy everything from the Bulgarians and the Greeks. You stole the history and pretend to be something different. But it’s not that way. Your not gonna enter the European Union if you continue to lie. Just expect the true. Bulgarians try to be nice and made us one people because we are the same. But you Macedonians make things more and more difficult to happen. You dare to burn Bulgarian flags, and to brake our statues. Get on our level.
The serbs are our enemies, we should not expect anything different than that. I really hope you stop watching Bulgarian videos and watch some serb related videos like Srebrenica, for example.
Check Ottoman records, Macedonians are not mentioned even once as a people - because such a people did not exist at that time. Your ancestors are Bulgarians. You have the internet, search for information yourself.
I agree that the Cyrillic alphabet is the best in the world. I disagree that is coming from Bulgaria as much as a lot of things s, that are actually coming from there. Bulgarians are Tatars and have 0 European culture not to mention that they invented Alphabet. Yes, they were good thieves and warriors who damaged the Byzantine Empire but using and what they inherit from the Byzantine empire such as religion, culture, tradition does t make them innovators of anything. Simple users or even better made up themself s as the authority of something that they never possessed Alphabeth Religion Culture and Tradition. They were never Slavs then how come they made a Slavic Alphabeth ?!
This is proven by the world historiography not just bulgarian, as an example that is why the European union officially recognizes our ancestors as its creators. You comment in the end is just plain arogant and disrespectful. I might even guess from where you are, it won't be hard. You talk of european culture you show not a slitest of it, nor your people.

Cyril and Methodius: invent a script specifically designed for slavic languages
*Poland: I'll pretend I didn't see it*
They are Catholics... Maybe that's the reason.
@@stefantsarev4442 interesting...

You are right, I suggest all slavic languages need to be written in Cyrillic.
Let's be honest here. Anything that allows you to include Russia on a map makes it look widespread even though 90% of Russian area is VERY sparsely populated.

Nice video, little silly though ;-)
In 862 king Rostislav of Nitra (Nitra is the first historicaly documented Slavic kingdom, metropolis of by-modern-historians so-called "Great Moravia") sent a message to the Byzantine Emperor Michael III. with a request to send a bishop and a teacher who would lay the foundations of a church (independent of the Frankish bishops) in Great Moravia (today's western Slovakia and south Moravia).

The word "Slavs" was not written anywhere in the world before the 16th century. The brothers Cyril and Methodius translated church books into "Old Bulgarian" and not into "Slavic". The term "Old Church Slavonic" or "Old Church Slavonic" was first used by Josef Dobrovsky in Vienna in 1822. I'm not implying anything, I don't want to offend anyone, but these are well-known and proven facts.
Also, we don't have many Slavic necropolises, etc.
We can easily replace the name "Slavic language" with "Bulgarian language".

Was still a complicated alfabet but infinitly more useful than Cyrillic one. The insult and injury is with the non Greek alfabet that they borrowed 31 latters from and to which in time they reverted back almost entirely and call it Cyrillic too.

This video is a lie. The video is not mentioning for whom the writing was created, that it was for Moravians. So the Bulgarians falsely claim the ownership of the writing.
Glagolithic was for Moravians by order of the Byzantine emperor to Cyril and Methodius and then their students as shown on the map with the path going to Bulgaria shows the way of the students of the two brothers and the start of the Cyrillic development. The word Slavs, as something other than slaves, appeared in the early 16th century, but acquired its current meaning in the 18th century, when the Russian Empress Catherine the Great developed the doctrine of Panslvism for geopolitical reasons. If you show me one historical source that says about Slavs before the 18th century, I will give you $ 1,000.
Your correct, yet the alphabet worked for specific group of people who had similar speach, so such group existed but in different name then.

ImCurigi you are macedonian , because all germans and russians that know history know its from bulgaria, no one says its from macedonia , its not hard to read a book or to open google
@@JustSlav98 dont think everything in books and google is true
Oh okay so books writen by historians are not true , but what some 15 year old macedonian kids that have never studied history in their life say is true ? Your logic makes perfect sense!
Syrillic .........FU
Cyrillic alphabet doesn't have anything with bulgarians, Cyrillic alphabet came from Macedonia and bulgarians just came from the steppes as nomads in that century.
Bulgarians didn't even speak our language, they were Tatars until they mixed with Serbs and other Slavic tribes
You barely know the dates it seems. Tatars are mongol people and they came 700 years later. Serbian was one of the tribes that later everyone beared their name in you region but to tell everyone was serbian at first isn't accurate. You barely united into one state in 10th century. The dates you miss:
Serbian propaganda 🤡Just like how you took Macedonia.
@@vasil.kamdzhalov it's irrelevant whatever you say will never delete the fact that you are immigrants from Asia
@@Bodlasona You quickly try to say that you are from here, there isn't a problem to call yourself macedonians today if you so wish, but the whole problem is that in your happy fantasy world you have been that the whole time, which isn't correct. Even if you try to ignore that in the very least you aren't pureblood and only macedonians. You got from all the nations on the balkans (almost). We know that we have from our tribe, slavs, thracians and a bit of greek so this isn't a problem for us. But in your poor consept we are only tatars and in your schoolbooks it starts with that, that we are tatars, robbers and nomads who practically don't deserve a nation and you expect to enter EU with the european values of friendship and trade. Even the tatar thing is not true in a way because last discoveries suggest we come from the area of Iran and Tibet area. Tatars is the other name of mongols, mongols emerge in 13th century, we are here since 7th century and try to explain me how we preseed the mongols with 500 years? Don't worry I expect you to think of some other bad mouthing so I won't be surprised.

You are the one who copies not Macedonians
You are the one who took Byzantine traditions, not anyone else . And to claim something that you clearly copied its absurd. Besides who cares about the EU everybody knows that you do all these crappy things because Germany was a mediator of EU.And you had some kind of support . Kiril and Methodius were from Souln -Tesalonika . Their missionaries Naum, Gorazd, Klement,Angelari were everything but Bulgarians. Everyone know s that you want to claim a monopoly over the Balkans, now that's your Fantasy, not any others .If you were for unity we would know long time ago.We don t need EU to know who you are remember that.
@@Bodlasona The only byzantine we took was chirstianity. We can't do much for the change in lifetstyle of the territories we took. If we did something was to improve them in our own way. We know that Ciril and Methodius where from Thessaloniki/Solun and when we study about them, it is just said that they had at least one parent from slavic origin, not bulgarian, so we don't change it. The students where sent by our rulers to study from them or else after their death they could just return to the byzantines but they didn't, they willingly came to Bulgaria and we tasked to finish the imrpovements into a new alphabet. That happened in Preslav, then Ohrid was chosen to act as a centre of the region of Macedonia, sorry to say but again when it was conquered the byzantines named it theme Bulgaria as the other already where Moesia, Thrace etc. You talk bad about the EU but still you want there, the improvements they made where because of those principles I said last time, if you can't trully follow them, there is no point.
